The overall content of the course is really good. I like the balance of lecture
and real case examples. The innovation process construct is a helpful way to go
through the innovation process.
Vice President of Human Resources,
Medical Device Corporation
My A-ha moment in the class came with Professor Chatman. She reminded me
about the key word in the title of this class: LEADING innovation. As I reect on
the main gap between great and sub par companies with respect to innovation,
it is leadership. As students, if we utilize the skills shared with us in the class and
truly lead, we will denitely make a difference. You dont need to be a naturally
creative person to create innovation, you just need to be a leader.

The Berkeley Innovation Process includes both analytical and synthetic elements
and toggles between the theoretical (abstract) and practical (concrete) realms.
Observations or experiences in the concrete world are converted to frameworks
or insights through a process of reection. Frameworks, in turn, become imperatives
or ideas through a convergent thought process. Imperatives are then materialized
in solutions by taking action in the concrete realm once again.

and engage with faculty and fellow participants.
We will send you login information to access the Platform at the start of Orientation Week.
Your Program is divided into 6 weekly units called Modules. Each of the 6 Modules is
comprised of a number of learning sections, or Segments, which include self-paced
video lectures, assignments, and interactive exercises.
Your program is made up of three components: Self-Paced Experience, required
Live Sessions, and optional Live Feedback resources. The following pages describe
each in detail.

Self-paced learning allows you to work on your own time and at the rate that is best for
you. You may explore the content and complete assignments and activities at your own
pace and without the pressure that may exist in a live classroom environment. The self-
paced portion of the program includes the following:
Watching Video Lectures
Each Module includes 5-10 online video lectures (each from 5-15 minutes) featuring
renowned business school professors developed exclusively for your program. The
combined amount of lecture material per Module averages 1.5 hours per week.
Completing Assignments
Each Module features activities designed to contribute to your understanding of
concepts and application to your real-world work. There are 1-2 assignments each
week, which are due the Sunday of each week by 11:59 p.m. US Eastern Time via
upload to the platform.
We will take record of the submission of these required assignments, but they
will not be graded. The assignments are designed to serve as components for the
construction of your nal assignment, which involves application of the learnings to
your personal business case. You may discuss your assignments with your Buddy,
in Team and Section Meetings, and in other optional feedback opportinuties with
faculty and coaches.
Participating in Program Surveys
Brief Questionnaires found at the end of Modules 1, 3, and 6 allow us to assess
your experiences and improve our programs and support. Thank you in advance
for your participation.

Partner Learning
You will be paired with another participating executive, known as a Buddy,
from your company to serve as a thought partner during meetings and with
assignments. We encourage you to provide each other with feedback, collaboration,
encouragement, and support. You will meet with your Buddy at times and venues
of your mutual choosing.
Sequential Learning
ExecOnline follows a sequential learning approach, which is an important feature of
your overall development experience. Participants complete Segments in the order
presented. That is, each new Segment may be accessed only once you complete the
preceding Segment. Your Program is structured so that the learning content builds
upon that which has already been experienced and mastered.

Interacting with peers and experts is a critical feature of your learning experience,
and your program includes many opportunities to engage with both fellow participants
and faculty or Coaches. The live, interactive events allow you to connect, share,
discuss, and practice what you are learning, which will deepen your understanding
and strengthen your application of the areas most vital for you and your organization.
Your live experience includes the following:
Team Learning
Company-Specic groups of approximately 8 participants will meet 3 times during
the Program to further explore the learnings and their applicability to your companys
priorities and strategic objectives. These meetings provide great opportunities to
interact with your colleagues in a close and condential environment, where issues
can be addressed and strategic plans can be launched. Attendance is required.
Cross-Company Learning
Cross-Company Sections are comprised of 50-60 executives from a range
of participating companies.* As a Section Member, you will take part in 3 live Platform-
based meetings featuring live Q&A hosted by professors. These meetings will bring
further insight and depth of understanding into that weeks lectures and matters of
importance to you and your fellow Section Members, build closer involvement with
faculty, and inspire greater interaction and networking with a global community of
executives. We also encourage you to interact with fellow participants on the Platform
Discussion Board Exchange ideas, talk about challenges, share experiences, and
discover new ideas!
We announce the Cross-Company Section Meeting schedule, topics, and access
information during Orientation and post them on the Platform.

Allocating Study Time
Past participants report that they devote 4-5 hours to complete each weekly module
and participate in team meetings and other live program events more if they engage
in available optional activities. While our programs are designed to be exible and
adaptable to your busy professional schedule, we recommend you block out time
on your calendar each week to make sure you progress through the program
at a consistent pace and stay on track for on-time completion. Doing so will allow
you to get more out of the live meetings and team collaboration that are central
elements of the learning experience.
In order to both stay on track and gain the full benets of the program, past
participating executives have expressed the importance of setting and adhering to a
study plan each week. While your own study plan will be unique given your weekly
work schedule and other obligations, here are some best practices to consider:
Best Practices
(Each Program Week begins on Monday and concludes Sunday.)
Each Monday, we recommend that you preview that weeks module and assess
the length of the videos and number of assignments due. Check your calendar
and program announcements for any required and optional live events.
Each Monday through Wednesday, view the lectures. Be sure to take notes and
discuss with your Buddy what you have learned and its applicability to your nal
assignment and overall company or departmental objectives. Feel free to use
the Discussion Boards to share your thoughts or post questions.
By Wednesday or Thursday of each week, get started on the weeks assignment(s).
Review lectures and your notes as needed. Continue to receive and share
feedback with your Buddy and on the Discussion Boards. Remember: assignments
are due by Sunday of a given week by 11:59 p.m. (US Eastern Time).
Consider the timing of your Team Meeting as those often involve discussion of that
weeks video lecture content and application exercises. Experience as much of the
content as is reasonable prior to those meetings so you can fully engage in
the topics at hand.
Attend all live idea-sharing and feedback opportunities, including discussions
with your Buddy, Team Meetings and Section Meetings. Take advantage of
optional Coaching Sessions and Issue Forums.
Whatever schedule works for you, we highly recommend that you pace yourself
and that you do not cram everything into a short period of time or until the
last minute.
We know our participants are busy, and were here to help. Contact us at
support@execonline.com for guidance on program completion.

Communicating Your Commitment
ExecOnline professional development programs require a meaningful commitment.
We recommend that you inform your managers and teams of your involvement so
they recognize the time and energy you will be devoting.
Falling Behind and Catching Up

experience. If you fall behind due to work or other obligations or anticipate not being
able to stay on schedule due to anticipated circumstances, we are here to support you
and get you back on track. Contact the Support Team at support@execonline.com to
