Secure in Grace

Summary
Can we lose our salvation once we are saved? Although it is possible to renounce our faith, God
has made it difficult for us to lose our salvation. A person with a hard heart may renounce his
faith. However, Gods mercy and grace is so relentless and He makes it very difficult for us to
turn from Him once weve tasted His goodness. The goodness of God can change a persons
hardened heart. Therefore, we are secure in grace no matter what we face in life. Once we invite
Jesus into our lives, it is hard to turn completely away from Him.


A. We cannot sin away our salvation, but we can make the decision to renounce our
salvation and reject our faith (Hebrews 6:4-6; Matthew 12:31, 32).
1. However, God has made it difficult for us to completely turn away from Him
once weve had a relationship with Him.
a. Continuous sin can cause us to have a hardened heart toward God.
b. A person with a hardened heart can eventually reject his faith (Hebrews
3:13, 14).
c. God has made it difficult for us to renounce our salvation because He
shows us grace and mercy despite our ignorance or emotional state (1
Timothy 1:13).
d. Grace helps us overcome sin in our lives. Our new nature doesnt want
to continue in sin.
B. Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away;
behold, all things are become new (2 Corinthians 5:17).
1. Through one mans sin (Adam), we were all made sinners before we even had a
chance to sin. We are all born into this world as sinners.
a. However, through Jesus (Who never sinned), we can all be made
righteous when we believe in Him (Romans 5:19).
b. Although we are all born sinners, we can be born again through our
belief in Jesus Christ.
c. Through our faith in Jesus Christ, we are made right with God. Our
righteousness is a free gift that we didnt deserve (2 Corinthians 5:21).
2. Jesus extends salvation to everyone. Through Christ, God wants to reconcile the
world to Himself (2 Corinthians 5:18, 19).
3. Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by
us: we pray you in Christs stead, be ye reconciled to God (2 Corinthians 5:20).
a. We represent Jesus Christ on this earth. Therefore, when people have an
encounter with us, they should have an encounter with Jesus.
b. There should be something about us that lets others know that we
represent Jesus.
C. But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and
righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption (1 Corinthians 1:30).
1. With Jesus, we are never bankrupt. Through Him, we have all we will ever need.
a. We have been redeemed and made righteous through Him.
b. We have wisdom because of Him; wisdom is the ability to use the
knowledge we have.
c. We have also been sanctified because of Him; Sanctification means
holiness (or separation from the worlds way of doing things).
