A student who wishes to defer the submission of an assignment must apply to the lecturer in charge of the relevant unit or course for an
extension of the time within which to submit the assignment.
Where an extension is sought for the submission of an assignment the application must :
o be in writing - preferably before the due date; and
o set out the grounds on which deferral is sought. (see ECU Assessment Policy)

Problem 1:

The paint spraying robot is programmed to paint a production line of curved surface A. the length of
the telescoping arm is controlled according to b = 0.3 sin( t/2), where b is in meters and t is in
seconds. Simultaneously, the arm is programmed to rotate according to = /4 + (/8) sin (t/2) radius.
Calculate the magnitude v of the velocity of the nozzle N and the magnitude a of the acceleration of N
for t = 1 s and for t = 2 s.

Problem 2:

Cylinder A has a constant downward speed of 1 m/s. compute the velocity of cylinder B for (a) = 45
o
,
(b) = 30
o
, and (c) = 15
o
. The spring is in tension throughout the motion range of interest, and the
pulleys are connected by the cable of fixed length.

Problem 3:

Packages having a mass of 2 kg are delivered from a conveyor to a smooth circular ramp with a velocity of v0 =
1 m/s as shown in the figure. If the radius of the ramp is 0.5 m, determine the angle =
max
at which each
package begins to leave the surface.

Problem 4:

An 800-kg rigid pile P shown in Fig. is driven into the ground using a 300-kg hammer H. The hammer falls
from rest at a height y
0
= 0.5 m and strikes the top of the pile. Determine the impulse which the hammer
imparts on the pile if the pile is surrounded entirely by loose sand so that after striking, the hammer does not
rebound off the pile.
