I received an email the other day that thrilled my heart. A young family in our
community had wandered from the life they knew to be right and found them-
selves in a spiritually dark and lonely place. They were on a dangerous course
but didnt know how to get their lives on track. When the mom and dad divorced,
it seemed there was no future. Then another couple, friends who are a part of
our church, invited the dad to come to church and bring the children with him.
This second couple had recently connected with our church and were excited
about their experience here, so they reached out to their friend. Here is how the
single dad described what happened (Im grateful he allowed me to share this
with you):
I started coming each Sunday morning for service and then to my friends Sunday
School class. I was welcomed with arms of love, care, compassion and fellow-
ship like I have never had before. As hard as it was to get my children ready each
Sunday, I knew they and I were healing from a broken marriage and the struggle
of being a single dad. The care givers in my childrens Sunday School classes
and on Sunday nights made such a difference in my life that I cannot say thank
you enough. They encouraged me each Sunday as I came that I was doing great
and my children were doing so good in their classes. The people at LBC gave
me hope in a time where I felt hopeless and helpless. They reached out not with
empty hands and noses in the air. They reached down into my life in a way that
made me know that I could do it. I could make it. I could be a good father. I could
raise these children.
He fnished his email with this:
My children are on a path to know Christ because of LBC doing what you say
your mission is and that is to make disciples of Jesus Christ in Lexington and
around the world. I am on the path to being the man God wants me to be because
our family of faith does what it says its going to do.
All I can say is Thank you, Lord. This kind of story is why we do what we do.
Were surrounded by hurting and broken people, and every time we reach out to
them in Jesus name, we may be making an eternal difference.
Coming up later this month is our annual Light Up the Night, when our church
offers a Christian alternative to Halloween for all of Lexington. Its our biggest
outreach event of the year and draws more people to our campus than anything
else we do. WE NEED YOUR HELP! Heres what we need from you:
Pray that the Holy Spirit will work through all our people to touch others lives
with the gospel during this event
Volunteer to help- contact Maegan Bolding (maegan@lexingtonbaptist.org) if
you can host a Trunk or Treat, manage a display, be a hostess, direct parking or
any of the many other tasks which are necessary
Donate candy for our Trunk or Treat. There are collection bins around campus.
As we continue to reach out into our community and world with the gospel, your
fnancial gifts to our ministry are vitally important. The ministries here at LBC are
possible because of your willingness to give. The Bible compares our giving to
the act of sowing, just like a farmer sows seed in his felds. When we sowor
plantfnancially, were providing for the harvest to come. Heres what the Bible
says: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows boun-
tifully will also reap bountifully (2 Corinthians 9:6). Its a privilege and blessing to
sow into Gods Kingdom, and as you do that each week, please know that youre
making an eternal difference in many peoples lives.

Wired Wednesdays
Something amazing has been happening on Wednesday nights with our
LexKids at Wired. Each week, we are taking a deeper look at our churchs
core values and learning what it means to Worship, Grow, Serve and
Go. We have hosted guest musicians and artists, taken a deeper look
at scripture, learned to share the gospel with our friends, gone to LICS
to serve and had a missions night with an international missionary and
food from their country. We are doing this every month, so dont miss it!
Our last Wednesday night of the semester will be November 12th, 2014.

Moving Up
We had an incredible time with 30 of our rising 1st graders and their families! They each received an Adven-
ture Bible and learned what it meant to treasure Gods Word. Families were able to share their favorite verses
together and personal stories of learning and trusting in scripture.

Its time... Light up the Night is coming up on Wednesday, October 29!
This is one of our favorite events of the year, and if youve never experi-
enced it, please make plans to attend! Its such a fun night with costumes,

and deck them out in an exciting theme for the kids. You can sign up to

ing us. There will also be donation buckets around campus in October for
candy collection- with hundreds of children coming from our community,
we need a whole lot of candy to give them all! Please consider buying a
few bags for us next time youre at the store.

Student Ministry Families,
What an incredible September we experienced as a ministry. God has been so
gracious to us. We have seen students come to Christ, get baptized and grow
in their walks with God. We spent all September talking about digging into
Gods word, challenging our students to self-feed and be active in growing
themselves through the Word of God. Not only are students growing, but we
have seen organic student-led Bible studies happening through the week. I
am reminded of our purpose which is, To make disciples of Jesus Christ in
Lexington and around the world. Church, that is happening in our Student
Ministry. I am encouraged to see new faces every week. Students are under-
standing the importance of reaching out into their spheres of infuence and
making a difference. Parents, please pray for us as we continue to seek Gods direction and follow His voice. Our
only desire is to bring God glory through our lives.
We would love to see your students on Wednesday nights. Encounter 431 is a chance for your student to
meet new friends and grow deeper in their faith. Each week we hang out together, worship together and share
together. Encounter 431 is a must do for every student in this church. I know some students work and have
school activities: that just means that when you have a day off or an off-season, its time to jump in. Four times
in the month of October we have Game Day Tailgate on Friday nights. On October 10 and 24, we will be rep-
resenting at Gilbert High, October 17 at River Bluff and October 31 at White Knoll. We always tailgate from 6 to
7:15 p.m. at these schools. We encourage all students to travel with us, even if we are tailgating at a different
school than your own. Its about the community!
Parents, every week we send out parent emails to update families on whats going on
within our ministry. If you are not receiving these emails, please contact Kristen King at
kking@lexingtonbaptist.org so she can update our list. We love you, and if there is anything
we can do to better partner with families, please let us know. God bless and have a great
October.

Middle School Ministry Families,
By now youve seen our students wearing shirts with this image on them. CORE students
are our students that not only want to go beyond the status quo, but they want to lead
the way in this movement. Youve seen these students serve at big events such as Tail-
gate Sunday, and theyre soon to be at Light Up the Night, but they are all plugged into
areas of service each Sunday from the childrens ministry, to the orchestra and choir.
CORE is a leadership group that allows students to use their gifts and willingness to
serve to make an impact on the lives that they touch. These CORE students are not only
doing these big events and weekly service opportunities, but they are truly reaching out
to their peers inside the student ministry here at LBC and even at their schools. The
reason I can confdently say this, is that in the past two years, our CORE ministry has doubled in size; I just want
to remind you that this is a serving ministry (you know, the stuff thats hard to get people to
sign up to do!). Even so, weve seen great growth in this ministry, and its because these stu-
dents take the Great Commission seriously; they have really multiplied this group by reaching
out to their peers. These students are changing the culture they live in by leading in ways that
put others frst as they share the love of Christ; for me as an eyewitness, its exciting to see!

Wednesday Nights at LBC
If you havent been here on Wednesday evenings, let me encourage you to check out what is offered. You should be aware
of the 4 p.m. Bible study, led by Pastor Mike in the Chapel. On October 1, hell begin teaching on living in the presence and
power of the Holy Spirit. I am always encouraged by his teaching, so I hope youll have a chance to connect as well. Again,
at 6:15 p.m., Pastor Mike offers the same study in the Chapel, and we also have D Groups (Discipleship Groups) available.
We have three D Groups beginning that each cover a different topic: one on parenting, one for men and one for women.
Its incredible what the Lord will do through you if you let him. Kimberly and I are teaching the D Group on parenting! We
are doing the best we can and have super awesome kids, but come on now... Im not sure anyone needs to learn how to
parent from me!! Kimberly and I have taken some parenting classes before and learned some helpful techniques, but at
the end of the day, kids are going to sometimes listen to you and sometimes not- I guess our prayer has always been that
theyd listen and follow directions more than they didnt.
The study we are using to teach parenting is entitled Ready to Launch, and the authors pointed out a great point right
at the beginning of the study. As couples new to parenthood, weve all asked - in some form or fashion - How should I/
we raise these kids? What the author suggests is that we actually ask, Why did God give me these kids? That was re-
ally a game-changer for Kimberly and me. If I look at it from the perspective of trying to understand Gods reasoning for
blessing us with two great kids, we wont focus so much on rules and regulations for them, rather living out the gospel in
front of them, for them and eventually with them.
Why do I raise this issue with older adults? Because I want to thank you for the work youve done in living out the gospel
to your children and grandchildren, and for some of you, great-grandchildren. A principle I belive many
of you understand says Like arrows in the hand of a warrior are the children of ones youth. Blessed
is the man who flls his quiver with them! (Psalm 127:4-5, ESV) I am around couples in their 30s who
constantly say how appreciative they were for their parents and grandparents who were solid, godly
men and women. You dont get thanked enough for just being who God created you to be, so from my
family to you, thank you! May God continue to richly bless you in your families.

October Focus: Impact -> Prisons
This month, we focus on our Prison Ministry. God is making disciples
even behind the walls. Would you like to be involved in some of these
prison ministry opportunities?
- Prayer commitment
- Donating Bibles
- Filling Christmas Prison Packets
- Writing personal notes to inmates
And if God is leading you to serve behind the walls
- Worship services
- Bible studies
- Life skills classes
- Holiday fellowship meals
Below are testimonies from those impacted by Gods work in our local
prisons:
While I was in prison, God reached down from heaven and saved me
out of the pig pen, the mess I was in and set me free from the bondage
of drugs and gangs. I am now on fre for Jesus, my Lord and Savior.
God gave me a new heart and put a new Spirit within me. Jesus shed
blood on the cross covered all sins past, present and future for those
who believe in Him. -Inmate
That was Jesus loving you through me. And He loved me through you.
Sisters in Christ. How blessed I am, Father, to get to go into the prisons
to visit with you. - Prison Ministry volunteer
Many of our class members really know the Bible and it is so refresh-
ing and inspiring to study with them. Going to Broad River Prison each
Wednesday from 12 to 2 p.m. is the highlight of my week.
- Prison Ministry Volunteer
I hate my incarceration, but it is the best thing that ever happened to
me. Praise God! - Inmate
God has used me in ways I never thought possible for me. He has
provided for me and protected me in some very dangerous situations.
He has also led me to some of the best friends a person could ever
have. The thing that makes me smile is that my life is just beginning.
He has blessed me with this awesome opportunity at C.I.U. for a great
education. I have a chance to learn so much more, so I can be better
equipped to serve God. -Inmate
Throughout the month of October, we will be collecting new and
gently-used Bibles to distribute in our local prison.
A collection area will be set up in the Worship Center lobby.

God at Work
Because you so faithfully give to Missions at Lexington Baptist Church,
we are able to live out our mission statement and make disciples of Jesus
Christ in Lexington and around the world. I hope youll take a minute to
read some of these amazing stories from our partners to see just how big
an impact is being made for the Kingdom through your gifts of your time,
fnances and prayers.
U* is a new contact that one of our students met. Our student had been
frequenting the same caf for several weeks. U saw him reading his Bible
there and fnally had the courage to approach him and asked, Are you a
Believer? Yes I want to be a Believer. They began to talk about what
that means and the student shared his testimony. U has visited a local
fellowship and has been studying the gospel. The student introduced him
to one of our teammates and U brought along two friends. They openly
talked about faith in Jesus and wanted to know more. One of these friends
also seems to be a genuine seeker. Pray for these guys to soon join the
Kingdom and for their group of friends to be a part of a new gathering.

- Missions Partner in Central Asia
During the 2014 SD Card (computer fash drives) Distribution Event,
Evangelistic/ Christian media was distributed to Persians during the
Nooruz Holiday. This year almost 31,000 SD Cards (containing the Bible)
were distributed and following are two highlights from that event:
From a partner: Recently we met a man named K, gave him a
chip and shared our testimony. This led to the man reading and listening
to the Bible and eventually placing his faith in Christ. He has returned to a
very closed country and continues to be discipled over Skype.
From an American Volunteer: One of the things we heard about
three times that was really encouraging was that Persians came this
year to (the location where the distribution took place) because they had
heard that they could get the Bible there. These people would take their
vacation time and spend their money just to get a Bible! Wow!
- Missions Partner in Central Asia
These are just a few of the many, many stories we
hear about the impact that the Missions Ministry has
around the world. Thank you for your support!

D Groups (short for Discipleship Groups) are a way to connect intentionally with other believers and grow to-
gether through Bible study and fellowship. We are excited to start October with three new D Groups, as well as
a new sermon series by Pastor Mike. These groups will each meet on Wednesdays at 6:15 p.m. These classes
are identical to session one classes, allowing you to participate in two different groups this fall. Heres what
we are offering:
Kingdom Authority: Living in the Presence and Power of the Holy Spirit Chapel
{4 and 6:15 p.m.}
Pastor Mike Turner

Pastor Mike is beginning a new Wednesday night series on October 1 entitled Kingdom Authority: Living in
the Presence and the Power of the Holy Spirit. He will dig deeper into what it means to live in the Spirit of
God and how doing that can impact your life for the Kingdom. Attend at 4 or 6:15 p.m. each Wednesday night
through November 12.
Ready to Launch CHB 202
Jerry & Kimberly Freeman

Christian parents are not seeking mere behavior modifcation in their children but the growth of truly godly
passions. Training a child up in the way he should go must be done intentionally, with the mind and heart of
God. Based on Psalm 127, this study plumbs the wisdom of the Bible about the goals of parenting, the stages
of discipline, the role of the church and strategies to shape the heart toward the gospel.
{Book cost: $12}
Me, Myself & Lies: A Thought Closet Makeover CHB 201
Rachel Capps

This Bible study encourages women to clean out the negative thoughts in their minds related to things like
self-esteem, body image and stress, and to replace them with positive truths from Gods Word.
{Book cost: $12}
Kingdom Man: Every Mans Destiny, Every Womans Dream CHB 203
Chuck McDaniel and Ray Hill

Our culture has redefned manhood by emasculating men through a repositioning of their role. The Bible clearly
communicates that man was created to exercise dominion over the various areas of his life, taking responsibili-
ty for himself and others entrusted to his care. When a man functions within the principles of biblical manhood,
those around him beneft from his leadership and care. This study challenges and equips men to fully under-
stand their position under God, learning to operate under the authority of Jesus Christ.
