IN THIS ISSUE WHEN THINGS GO WRONG ACCIDENT AFTERMATH MEXICO MONOPOLY GAME OVER NEWS FLASH! NEW ALERT PRODUCT SAVES TIME & LIVES GOT WATER? PRICE PER GALLON JC Fodale Energy Services has quickly become a powerhouse in the Eagle Ford Shale, providing services and expertise to top players in the industry. Its name recognition speaks to customer service, safety, and quality of service. But when JC Fodale rst ventured into the Eagle Ford Shale in 2010, the company was surprised by how quickly the shale play and its own business would develop. As a growing energy services business out of Shreveport, La., it targeted opportunities to expand into other shale plays. Jerry Fodale, President of JC Fodale, recalled seeing the potential there. Scott Tessmar, the companys Vice President of the Texas Division, and one other employee were also overwhelmed by the opportunity in front of them. We started out with just the three of us working on an experimental job to see if the Eagle Ford would be a place for us to work, Fodale recalled. No way did we know what was coming. We just happened to be in the area with a good product, and we leveraged it by being good salesmen and providing a good service at a good price on time. Following that initial containment job, JC Fodale began providing dozens of services for vendors throughout the Eagle Ford and expansion took off from there. Today the company employs 700 people in the Eagle Ford alone, with their main Texas operation based in Dilley, and additional locations in Kenedy, Giddings, and Alice. Amidst the development of the Eagle Ford and the companys own resulting growth and success in the region, JC Fodale has remained focused on the core values that have always been the foundation of its business service, safety culture, and community. JC Fodales service model has earned the respect of customers throughout the industry, allowing it to focus on ties and customers. While containment was the largest initial component of JC Fodales business, the company has worked hard to remain in the forefront of the industry, offering services for nearly every well-related process. We work on the drilling side, the completions side and the production side, said Fodale, from frst spud all the way to frst sale and beyond. Today, those services include containment berms, a complete downhole division, including wireline and slickline, acid tanks, frac tanks, gas busters, frac water heaters, safety trailers, mixing chemicals, laydown and environmental cleanup. They also have a full feet of trucks, offer an array of trucking services including transportation of all equipment, hot oil trucks, vacuum trucks, bobtail trucks and winch trucks. But perhaps even more important than the type of services offered is the way that JC Fodale serves its customers. JC Fodale employees understand the importance of the words right now to a client, and their ability to react to that need for immediacy has set the company apart in the industry. Our recipe is to know what a customers needs are, and then to provide that service to them in a just-in-time fashion, Fodale explained. Because work in the Eagle Ford is a round-the- clock business, the JC Fodale team has to be prepared to respond to a customers call at a moments notice. Fodale likens their service model to that of the fre department with their equipment always loaded up and ready to go. If someone calls, the truck has been pre- inspected, loaded and ready to go, and we can just jump in the truck and go, agreed Tessmar. We can be anywhere in the Eagle Ford within an hour to two hours maximum. This level of service requires diligent organization, relying on top-notch logistics planners, detailed scheduling, and employees that are ready to jump into action immediately. Most importantly, it depends on employees who are prepared to run a safe operation from that initial call to the completion of the job. JC Fodales emphasis on safety permeates the companys corporate culture. From the time Christine Fodale, CEO of JC Fodale, founded the company in 2007, the safety of the employees, the job site, and the environment in which the company operates has been considered a top priority. From the highest levels of management at corporate headquarters to the newest feld hand, every employee knows that safety is all-important. JC FODALE T E X A S E A G L E F O R D S H A L E M A G A Z I N E Safety has turned into more of a culture and a lifestyle, rather than something we just do, said Tessmar. Whenever a new employee joins the company, they enter a 90-day mentorship program to become fully immersed in the JC Fodale culture, where safety practices become second nature before they are in the feld. The Eagle Ford safety department alone employs 22 people, constantly working to ensure safety and regulatory compliance. Additionally, three executive team members work fulltime to track regulations, making sure that JC Fodale is always up to date on the latest safety and environmental measures. Instead of just reacting to regulations after they are in place, we are responding to the changes as they happen, said Fodale. Were way ahead of the curve, and we like to be trendsetters where safety is concerned. In addition to service and safety culture, JC Fodale values community as a top priority. The company believes that its employees are its greatest asset, and fosters a family environment where people can be successful at work and still prioritize time with their own families and communities. To support this environment, JC Fodale emphasizes great relationships at all levels of the business, and gives back in the community in ways that matter to its employees. The team that weve built is, I think, unprecedented, said Fodale. Even though we have over 1000 employees nationwide, we still know everybodys name, we still know about everybodys kids, and thats one thing we never want to lose touch with. Attitude is everything at JC Fodale. When bringing on new employees, the company looks for talent and experience, but also for team players who are willing to learn. By investing in people with a can-do attitude, JC Fodale has flled their ranks with employees who have learned the business from the ground up, creating success for themselves within the company. Many workers, including the 10 original Eagle Ford employees, began their careers as feld hands and now serve in vital positions as managers, foremen and supervisors. Eddie Chavez was one of our frst fve employees for the Eagle Ford and is now a General Manager for the whole Eagle Ford, Fodale shared. He started as a hand and now he runs the entire Eagle Ford for JC Fodale. And we have tons of great stories like that. In recognition of everything its employees do to make the company successful, JC Fodale supports its people and their families however it can. The company offers practical solutions to help keep workers safe, from available employee housing on all yards that eliminate a long commute, to a shuttle service to take workers back home to their families after work. We want to make sure that our employees get to work, work safe, and get home safe to their families, said Fodale. Thats the most important thing. Over 90 percent of JC Fodales Eagle Ford employees are from South Texas, so supporting the local community is a vital part of the business. From environmental responsibility to sponsoring local causes, the company actively supports the community. Not only do we work there, but we live there, go to church there, and our kids play football and baseball there, Fodale said. We are a part of the community. JC Fodale gets involved with the causes and organizations that are important to its employees, from supporting participants in the annual Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, to sponsoring local school events and fundraisers. JC Fodale partners with law enforcement in Frio County to support safer communities for families and businesses alike. The company donated a 2013 Ford Raptor to the Dilley police force to assist them in their goals to keep the community safe. Another cause dear to the hearts of the JC Fodale team is the South Texas Childrens Home, where employees have volunteered their time and talents by hosting cookouts, providing a much-needed supply of laundry detergent, and inviting children without families over the Christmas holidays to attend Spurs games in the company suite. Giving back is one of the biggest parts of our business, said Fodale. When we employ 700 people, we impact more than just those 700. We think about sons, daughters and cousins. However we can, we want to make a diference in a school, community or charitable organization. Built on a solid foundation of service, safety culture, and community, JC Fodale is excited for what the next several years bring. In addition to their operations in the Eagle Ford Shale, the company has active locations in 10 states, with more than 1000 total employees. As JC Fodale looks to the future, it will continue to rely on these core values to set the tone for new business throughout the country. I am proud of our people, our attitude, and our commitment to excellence, said Fodale. If were going to keep growing, well work together, do a great job and have fun doing it.
