The 1.5 T MAGNETOM Avanto magnet utilizes a stainless-steel cryostat with proven structural reliability and excellent
behavior in minimizing artifact-inducing eddy currents.
Magnet length is only 1.50 mwhile the excellent homogeneity allows for 50 cmFoV imaging. This is unique for such a
short magnet and provides excellent image quality over a wide range of applications.
Homogeneity: Guaranteed <1.5 ppm Vrms (typ.: 0.8 ppmVrms, Vrms =Volume rootmean- square) in a spherical
volume diameter (DSV) of 50 cm using the most accurate 24-plane method with 20 sampling points per plane. The 24-
plane plot method measures the largest number of sampling points in the industry and provides accurate values that
are not subject to aliasing (which may occur with other plotting methods; the Vrms technique is more representative
than the older peak-peak methods).
The MAGNETOM Avanto magnet represents the 5th generation of actively shielded magnets with counter coils. The
magnet has patented External Interference Shielding (E.I.S.). E.I.S. protects against external interferences caused by
moving ferromagnetic objects (e.g. elevators, cars) and works continuously (especially also during scanning when you
need it most) to maintain premiumimage quality.
The magnetic 0.5 mT fringe field is 2.5 mradially (x, y) and 4.0 m axially (z) for easy siting, mostly even without
additional shielding.
The systemis equipped with Zero HeliumBoil-Off technology. During typical undisturbed clinical operation the boil
off rate is 0.0 l/a depending on the sequences used and examination time, and provided the system is serviced in
regular intervals. The heliumcapacity is about 1,600 liters.
Magnet weight: approx. 3630 kg. In many cases will allow siting on upper floors or older rooms without special floor
reinforcement.
Hybrid shimsystem: Active (with 3 electric linear shim channels) and passive shims for maintaining extremely high
homogeneity and excellent image quality over a wide range of applications. Online shimming is performed using 3D
shim, a patient and coil specific technique which optimizes the homogeneity for each patient in normally less than 20
seconds.

MAGNETOM Avanto Digital Radio Frequency System:

The digital signal processing system operates at 63 MHz resonance frequency and utilizes digital filtering, digital
quadrature demodulation as well as digital controls for RF amplitude stabilization for superior resolution and image
quality.
The RF transmitter incorporates a compact maintenance-free high-performance solid state 15 kW RF amplifier with
integrated water cooling.
The receiver operates over a very large 1 MHz bandwidth for outstanding sampling speed and high signal-to-noise
ratio. The high bandwidth enables fast imaging techniques including Single Shot EPI.
The transmit amplitude digitization resolution is 50 ns and the receive amplitude digitization resolution is 100 ns; this
ensures highest precision at maximum speed.
Dynamic gain control eliminates the need for receiver adjustments, thus saving up to 30 seconds for every study.
The systemhas built-in bandwidth flexibility which compensates for natural magnetic field drift for a period of up to 5
years, without the need for adjustments.

MAGNETOM Avanto - Table and Systemcontrols - Two ergonomically designed tableside control units (one on each side of the
magnet main face plate) at a comfortable level, control a number of patient table and system functions. Illuminated control
buttons:

Control buttons for vertical and horizontal table movement. Horizontal speed can be accelerated with an additional
Speed button. Transition from horizontal to vertical movement and vice versa takes place without intermediate
stop.
Table Stop button for immediate interruption of table move.
"Light Localizer" button activates and deactivates the laser light localizer for accurate patient positioning .
"Center Position" button for automatic table move of the selected location into the magnet isocenter after the laser
light localizer has been used for positioning. If the laser light localizer has not been used, the system automatically
centers to the center of the Head Matrix coil.
The "Home Position" button drives the table all the way out of the magnet, but not down. This will facilitate
repositioning the patient and will save time at the end of an examination.

The "Light" button controls the lighting within the patient opening. The light also has 4 settings: off, low, medium,
high
The "Scan Start/Stop" button starts a pre-loaded protocol. This is particulary useful, e.g. for breath-hold, when the
operator is inside the examination room.

MAGNETOM Avanto standard surface coils:

Head Matrix Coil - The Head Matrix Coil is a fully iPAT-compatible no-tune coil. It has a 12-element design with 12 integrated
preamplifiers that are arranged in 4 clusters of 3 coil elements each. The Head Matrix Coil can be operated depending on the
Matrix Coil mode as a 4-channel coil (CP mode), 8-channel coil (Dual mode) or 12-channel coil (Triple mode).

The upper coil part can be removed for better patient handling. The lower coil part, which can stay on the table for most
examinations, can be used without the upper part. The Head Matrix, Neck Matrix and Spine Matrix coils are smoothly
integrated into the patient table, thus enabling high flexibility in imaging and fewer coil changes and easy handling when
switching patients.

The Head Matrix Coil is equipped with two removable cushioned head stabilizers for stable and comfortable positioning of the
patients head. A detachable double mirror for increased patient comfort and reduced claustrophobic feeling is included. It
attaches to the upper part of the Head Matrix Coil and enables the patient to look out of the magnet even when his head is in
the center of the magnet. This double mirror design shows all objects in their correct up/down and left/right orientation. It can
also be used for visual fMRI studies.

The Head Matrix Coil can be used e.g. for head examinations, MR Angiography, combined head/neck examinations (in
combination with the Neck Matrix Coil) or for imaging of the TMJ (temporo mandibular joints).

A combination with the Neck Matrix and Spine Matrix Coil and the optional Body Matrix coils (up to 4) and PA (Peripheral
Angio) Matrix Coil is possible. Additionally, the combination of flexible coils like CP Flex coils is possible. The dimensions of the
Head Matrix Coil are 300 mm x 300 mmx 330 mm (L x W x H). Its weight is about 5 kg (11 lbs).

Neck Matrix Coil - The Neck Matrix Coil is a fully iPAT-compatible no-tune coil. It has a 4-element design with 4 integrated
preamplifiers that are arranged in 2 clusters of 2 coil elements each, and can thus be operated as a 2-channel (CP mode) or 4-
channel (Dual mode, Triple mode) coil. The upper coil part can be removed for better patient handling. The lower coil part can
remain on the table for most examinations. The Head Matrix, Neck Matrix and Spine Matrix coils are smoothly integrated into
the patient table, thus enabling high flexibility in imaging and fewer coil changes and easy handling when switching patients.

The Neck Matrix Coil through its easy combinability with the Head Matrix and Spine Matrix Coil can be used for applications like
neck or cervical spine examinations, imaging of the Larynx/Esophagus and Mediastinum MR Angiography, and combined
head/neck examinations. It thus replaces a neurovascular coil. Besides the typical combination with the Head Matrix and Spine
Matrix Coil, this coil can also be combined with the optional Body Matrix coils (up to 4) and PA (Peripheral Angio) Matrix Coil for
whole body imaging. Additionally, the combination with flexible coils like CP Flex coils is possible. The dimensions of the Neck
Matrix Coil are 190 mmx 330 mmx 332 mm (L x W x H). Its weight is about 2.6 kg (5.7 lbs).

Spine Matrix Coil - The Spine Matrix Coil is a fully iPAT-compatible no-tune coil. It has a 24-element design with 24 integrated
preamplifiers that are arranged in 8 clusters of 3 coil elements each, and is operated as an 8-channel coil (CP Mode), 16-channel
coil (Dual Mode) or 24-channel coil (Triple Mode). The Spine Matrix coil can remain on the table for most examinations. The
Head Matrix, Neck Matrix and Spine Matrix coils are smoothly integrated into the patient table, thus enabling high flexibility in
imaging and fewer coil changes and easy handling when switching patients. The Spine Matrix Coil can be used for high-
resolution imaging of the whole spine as well as for various other applications through its perfect combinability with the Head
Matrix and Neck Matrix Coil and also the optional Body Matrix coils (up to 4) as well as the PA Matrix Coil (Peripheral Angio)
and all flexible coils (e.g. CP Flex coils). The dimensions of the Spine Matrix Coil are 1185 mm x 485 mmx 33 mm (L x W x H). Its
weight is about 11 kg (24 lbs).

without compromising strongest gradient performance. With AudioComfort, acoustic noise is reduced by up to 30 dB(A) as
compared to conventional systems. This is a reduction of 97%in sound pressure. Patients will benefit significantly fromthis
feature. All gradient demanding protocols using EPI techniques such as diffusion imaging, perfusion imaging or fMRI
examinations show a significant acoustic noise reduction. AudioComfort makes MR examinations a comfoable experience even
for children. AudioComfort prevents the necessity of implementing noise-absorbing measures to gain a comfortable noise level
for technicians and neighbors. The SQ-engine gradients have - Maximum gradient amplitude of 45 mT/m for longitudinal
direction and 40 mT/mfor horizontal and vertical direction, i.e. 72 mT/mvector summation gradient performance,

max. slew rate 200 T/m/s, i.e. 346 T/m/s vector summation,
minimal rise time 200 s, from 0 to 40 mT/m amplitude,
Max. output voltage for each of the gradient axes 2000 V

differences in width of the intervertebral spaces.
Prerequisite: SW syngo MR B13.

Inline Diffusion - Automatic real-time calculation of trace-weighted images and ADC maps with Inline technology. Compatible
to single-shot diffusion-weighted EPI.

Inline Technology ProcessingInstead of Post-processing. - Inline Technology helps to streamline the clinical workflow by
automating post-processing steps before image viewing. This facilitates getting clinical results immediately. This package
integrates Inline technology with diffusion imaging. Automatic real-time calculation of traceweighted images and ADC maps
with Inline technology is possible. An optimized EPI sequence for diffusion imaging is included in the standard TimApplication
Suite. In this package there are additionally special 1- and 3-scan Trace EPI with strong diffusion weighting and short echo times
with integrated post-processing for an ADC-Map and trace-weighted images.

Prostate Imaging: TSE, 3D SPACE and VIBE for morphological imaging and VIBE and syngo REVEAL for functional imaging are all
included in the basic package. In order to overlay the morphological information with the functional information, it is
recommended to use the Inline Diffusion and Image Fusion.

Arterial Spin Labeling- ASL is a non contrast enhanced brain perfusion technique. EPI sequence enhanced for PASL (Pulsed
Arterial Spin Labeling) with preparation module (inversion pulse, saturation pulses) and selectable prospective motion
correction. Perfusion-weighted color maps and relative cerebral blood flow (relCBF) color maps are calculated with Inline
technology. In combination with the BOLD licenses, spatial filtering and GLM statistics are applicable. ASL is a non contrast
enhanced brain perfusion technique. The measurement of relative CBF is being done by combination of an ASL preparation
module with the 2D multi-slice EPI sequence with full iPAT compatibility. Technically, the ASL module consists of a spatially
selective inversion pulse combined with different types of saturation pulses (slice presaturation, label slab saturation) and can
be classified under PASL (Pulsed Arterial Spin Labeling). Output quantities are a series of labeled and unlabeled images, a series
of inline calculated perfusion weighted color maps and a series of relative cerebral blood flow (relCBF) color maps. Prospective
motion correction and spatial filtering can be applied for inline calculation to improve the image quality. The technique is
compatible with the BOLD features spatial filtering and GLM statistics for perfusion or functional evaluation (prerequisite: BOLD
evaluation and imaging license).

fast 2D and 3D high resolution imaging sequences and the Inline calculation of parametric maps for the T1, T2 and T2*
properties of the imaged tissue. Features:

Using iPAT the 3D sequences provide isotropic imaging extremely high resolution while maintaining clinical measurement
times. These data sets allow for the multi planar reconstruction of all planes. 3D is necessary to properly visualize the whole
articular cartilage since it typically has a complex shape. In addition the accuracy of isotropic high resolution 3D data sets is
superior because partial volume effects between e.g. synovial fluid and cartilage are minimized. For the visualization of the
parametric maps in the anatomical context the maps can be displayed as a colored overlay onto anatomical images using the
optional package syngo Image Fusion

CISS& DESS- Advanced 3D imaging sequences and protocols which are unique to Siemens: - 3D DESSand - 3D CISS.

3D DESS- for high-resolution 3D studies of joints with excellent T1 and T2 contrast. DESS is a double echo gradient sequence in
which a FISP (transversally rephased gradient echo) and a PSIF (RF-refocused gradient echo) echo are simultaneously acquired
and added, resulting in an increased signal-to-noise ratio.

3D CISS- for excellent very high resolution studies, especially useful in inner-ear examinations.
These Advanced 3D data sets provide very thin contiguous slices with high signal-to-noise ratio which are also well suited to
MPR post-processing along straight (oblique or double oblique) or curved lines. In some cases such as MR Myelography or inner
ear work, the MIP algorithm also provides very useful information.

syngo Expert-I - This software application enables support by remote staff (connected via network only) for planning and
processing. The option is integrated in the syngo user interface thus enables easy access to the user interface of the syngo
Acquisition Workplace for planning and processing support purposes. The access is protected by appropriate security
mechanisms (active enabling prior to every connection through the user present on site, password protection), in order to
prevent unwanted connections. The client software can be operated on any commercial PC with the following specification:
Operating system: Windows NT or XP, 32 bit graphics board, and 850 MHz CPU.

The Body Matrix Coil has a 6-element design with 6 integrated preamplifiers that are arranged in 2 clusters of 3 coil elements
each. Depending on the user selectable Matrix Coil Mode it is operated as a 2-channel coil (CP Mode), 4-channel coil (Dual
Mode) or 6-channel coil (Triple Mode). The Body Matrix Coil will be typically used together with the Spine Matrix Coil with
which it operates in an integrated fashion as 12-element design, creating 2 rings of 6 elements each. No tuning of the fully
iPAT-compatible Body Matrix Coil is necessary. For examinations where larger anatomical coverage is required, several Body
Matrix Coils can be used simultaneously. Up to 4 Body Matrix Coils can be used simultaneously, typically 2-3 will be used for
coverage of the entire abdomen or in the case of large patients. The Body Matrix Coil is typically used in combination with the
Spine Matrix Coil for examinations of the thorax, abdomen, pelvis or hip. The Body Matrix Coil can also be used for cardiac
applications. Through its perfect combinability with the Spine Matrix Coil, further Body Matrix Coils, the optional PA Matrix Coil
(Peripheral Angio Matrix), but also the Head Matrix and Neck Matrix Coil as well as all flexible coils (e.g. CP Flex coils, Endorectal
coils) it contributes for all large-Field-of-View applications including whole-body imaging. The dimensions of the Body Matrix
Coil are 322 mmx 520 mmx 4 0 mm(L x W x H). Its weight is about 2 kg (4.5 lbs), whereas the patient feels as little weight as
950 g (2 lbs).

Shoulder Array Coil - This iPAT compatible coil for examinations of the left or right shoulder consists of a base plate and two
receive array coil attachments available in different sizes, these will be attached and can be relocated on the basis plate. The
iPAT compatible receive shoulder array coil is adapted to the shape of the shoulder. To obtain maximum image quality for
different body shapes two different sized coil tops are included. 165 mm (6.5 in) diameter for small and medium sized
shoulders and 200 mm (7.9 in) diameter for large shoulders. The coil top can be used either for left or right shoulders. It
features slidable attachment to the base plate and can easily be adjusted for comfortable positioning. The coil excels in highest
resolution imaging with exceptional signal/noise ratio.

8-channel Knee Coil - The 8-channel Knee Coil is an iPAT compatible no tune receive coil for knee joint examinations. The
anatomically adapted coil is placed on a laterally movable holder and is capable to allow offcenter scanning with comfortable
positioning of both legs. The upper part of the coil can be removed for easy patient positioning. The 8-channel Knee Coil is
suited for iPAT to acquire highest resolution images with excellent SNR. Availability presumably 3rd quarter 2004 for
MAGNETOM Avanto and 2nd quarter 2005 for MAGENTOM Espree.

Diffusion Tensor Imaging- Single Shot EPI sequence for measuring diffusion-weighted data sets with up to 256 directions of
diffusion weighting. Based on these data sets, the diffusion tensor itself and parametric maps derived fromit (e.g. fractional
anisotropy) are calculated automatically and in real-time. The package supports both the clinical applications (e.g. diseases of
the white matter) and advanced research applications.

Single Shot EPI sequence for measuring diffusion-weighted data sets with diffusion weighting in more than 60 directions. Based
on these data sets, the diffusion tensor and parameter cards derived from it are calculated automatically and in real-time
(fractional anisotropy). The package supports both the clinical applications (e.g. diseases of the white matter) and advanced
research applications.

The Single Shot EPI sequence in the Diffusion Tensor Imaging package has been optimized for the measurement of data sets
allowing the evaluation of diffusion anisotropy in the brain. Efficient diffusion direction patterns are pre-defined to allow for
optimal diffusion direction resolution. Patterns with more than 60 directions can be selected.

Inline technology enables automatic and immediate calculation of the diffusion tensor, including the fractional anisotropy (FA)
of the image derived from it.

In order to further support clinical application, the inline diffusion functionality (mandatory item) has been integrated. Based
on the DTI measurement, trace-weighted and ADC images can also be calculated automatically and immediately. Details:

Measurements with more than 60 different directions
Measurements with up to 16 different b-values
Inline calculation of tensor, FA image, ADC image and trace-weighted image
Support of parallel imaging (iPAT)
Clinical protocols with full coverage of the brain, incl. inline calculation of tensor, FA, ADC and traceweighted images
in 4 minutes.

Diffusion Tensor Imaging allows for a complete description of the diffusion properties of the brain within the scope of the
tensor diffusion model, both for anisotropic and isotropic diffusion. The package is optimized for clinical application regarding
diseases of the white matter (e.g. Encephalopathia Diseminata, brain maturation disorders, displacement of nerve fiber tracts
through masses...). In connection with Tim technology, the package additionally offers the scientific user full flexibility of
measuring highly complex DTI data sets. Prerequisite: Software syngo MR 2006A

In fusion mode the color-coded diffusion images can be overlaid on an anatomical 3D image data set acquired in the same
examination. The overlaid image volume can be evaluated, displayed and stored in cut planes with any double oblique
angulation.

If the option syngo 3D Offline fMRI or Advanced Functional Neuro is available, the results of an fMRI experiment from
the same examination can also be displayed fused with DTI and anatomy.

Clinical application is supported by a dedicated DTI evaluation mode. Multiple diffusion parameter maps (e.g. Fractional
Anisotropy, ADC, b=0) and an anatomical image are displayed next to each other in the same slice position for comparison. The
images can be evaluated together based on ROI and the results can be documented in a table. The following parameter maps
can be calculated and displayed:

Measures of isotropic diffusion:ADC, trace-weighted, exponential ADC
Eigen vectors of the diffusion tensor:E1, E2, E3
Measures of anisotropic diffusion:
o Fractional Anisotropy (FA), Relative Anisotropy (RA),Volume Ratio (VR), E1-E3, E1-E2, E2-E3
o Shape-descriptive measures of the diffusion tensor:Linear, planar, spherical

Visualization options include:

2D/3D grayscale and color display.
2D/3D display with color coding of one preferred diffusion direction, e.g. Fractional Anisotropy image with color
coding of the direction of the first Eigen vector of the diffusion tensor.
Display of tensor as an overlaid graphic on parameter maps or anatomical images as an ellipsoid orcuboid (colored).
Overlay of parameter maps on anatomical images (if the syngo 3D Offline fMRI option or the Advanced
Functional Neuro option is available: also simultaneous overlay of fMRI results)

Documentation

parameter maps
Storage of multi-planar, double oblique reconstructed series fromoverlaid 3D visualizations (anatomy +diffusion
parameters)

The DTI Evaluation package with comparative side by side mode is optimized for clinical application to support diagnostics of
white matter diseases (e.g. multiple sclerosis, brain maturation disorders...).

In addition, the package offers the scientific user full flexibility of 2- and 3-dimensional visualization of the diffusion tensor with
measures of isotropic and anisotropic diffusion, Eigen vectors of the diffusion tensor and shape-descriptive measures of the

DTI Tractography syngo - syngo DTI Tractography allows the visualization of multiple white matter tracts of the human brain
based on diffusion tensor imaging data. DTI Tractography is optimized to support the presurgical planning and to allow for
neuro physiological research with respect to connectivity and white matter pathology. The option syngo DTI Evaluation is a
prerequisite for DTI Tractography. - Advanced 3D visualization of white matter tracts in the context of 2D or 3D anatomical
datasets and DTI datasets (also fMRI results if the option "BOLD 3D Evaluation" is present) - Interactive QuickTracking displays
the tract originating from the mouse pointer position while moving over the DTI data set. -Texture Diffusion, a highly versatile
in-plane visualization of white matter tracts, allows to display and read DTI Tractography results on PACS reading stations and in
the OR. - Seed points for tracking with single ROI and with multiple ROIs to assess connectivity. - Tract and seeding ROI statistics
(mean/max FA value, min/mean/max ADC value, ...).

syngo DTI Tractography is optimized for the clinical use: DTI data sets can be explored fast and intuitively using the interactive
QuickTracking. This also allows identifying good regions to place seeding ROIs. Seeding ROIs can be placed in fused views
displaying the anatomical reference and e.g. the colored FA map simultaneously.

At the same time the package provides the scientific user with the flexibility to configure the tracking algorithmand to change
display settings for the tracts.

All views can be exported as DICOM images or bitmaps. Tract and seeding ROI statistics can be exported as html files.

Inline BOLD Imaging- Inline technology enables the automatic real-time calculation and display of statistical (t-value) images
during the measurement of BOLD paradigms (including 3D motion correction and spatial filtration). The mosaic image format is
supported. Clinical protocols are prepared (e.g. motorized, visually). With Inline BOLD Imaging, functional brain mapping can be
optimally integrated into clinical routine, e.g. prior to neurosurgical interventions. This application makes great demand on the
temporal stability and/or B0 homogeneity of the magnetic field. In the mobile environment, ambient conditions may not always
be met, therefore application results may vary.

The advanced BOLD imaging package is based on blood oxygen level dependent (BOLD) contrast-sensitive single-shot EPI
sequences. The sequences allow the user to define protocols which, apart from the measurement, configure automatic
evaluation of the measured data during the scan. With Inline Technology it is thus possible to generate statistical images (t-
value) based on 3D motion corrected and spatially filtered data automatically in real time without any further user interaction.
Features:

Based on single-shot EPI imaging (multi slice)
Inline image reconstruction
MOSAIC image mode for accelerating display, processing and storage of images
Inline retrospective 3D motion detection and correction in 3 rotational and 3 translational directions (Advanced
Retrospective Technique ART, selectable)
Inline spatial filtering (selectable)
Inline t-statistics calculation for variable paradigms and display of t-value images
Starting from syngo MR B13: additionally improved statistical evaluation by means of General Linear Model (GLM):
paradigms can be configured
transitions between passive and active states can be modelled by the hemodynamic response function
correction of low-frequency trends
allows for time delays due to the BOLD-EPI slice order during a measurement
display of GLM design matrix
display of a continuously updated t-value card during measurement
display of activation cards continuously updated during measurement (t-value above configured threshold), overlaid
over the respective BOLD images using Inline technology
Clinical protocols are provided.

With Inline BOLD Imaging the processing steps (motion correction, ART, spatial filtering, t-test or GLM) are calculated
automatically with Inline Technology. With result images being generated without user interaction functional brain mapping
can be easily integrated into the clinical routine e.g. prior to neurosurgical interventions. The Inline display of activation cards
allows the user to decide during the scan whether enough statistical power has built up for his brain mapping task or if the
examination is corrupted by motion. As a result examinations will be shorter with a higher success rate.

3D PACE syngo - 3D PACE (Prospective Acquisition CorrEction) enhances Inline BOLD imaging with motion correction during the
acquisition of a BOLD exam. In contrast to a retrospective motion correction that corrects previously acquired data, the unique
3D PACE tracks the head of the patient, correcting for motion in real time during the acquisition. By tracking the patients head
3D PACE reduces motion resulting in increased data quality beyond what can be achieved with a retrospective motion
correction. As a result the sensitivity and specificity of BOLD experiments are increased. Features:

Real time prospective motion correction: Highest accuracy real time motion detection algorithm feeding a real time
feed back loop to the acquisition system with updated positioning information
3D motion correction for 6 degrees of freedom (3 translation and 3 rotation)
Motion related artifacts are avoided in first place instead of correcting for them retrospectively
Significant reduction of motion-related artifacts in statistical evaluations
Increased sensitivity and specificity of BOLD experiments

BOLD 3D Evaluation syngo - BOLD 3D Evaluation syngo is the comprehensive processing and visualization package for BOLD
fMRI. It provides a full set of features for clinical fMRI, as well as advanced features for more research oriented applications.
This package provides statistical map calculations from BOLD datasets and enables the visualization of task-related areas of
activation with 2D or 3D anatomical data, allowing the spatial relation of eloquent cortices with cortical landmarks or brain
lesions. The unique inline function of BOLD 3D Evaluation merges, in real time, the results of ongoing BOLD imaging
measurements with 3D anatomical data. Additionally, evolving signal time courses in taskrelated areas of activation can be
displayed and monitored. Functional and anatomical image data can be exported for surgical planning as DICOM datasets
(syngo MR B13), additionally all color fused images and results can be stored or printed. Inline BOLD Imaging is a prerequisite
for BOLD 3D Evaluation. - Statistical map generation: paradigmdefinition, calculation of t-value (General Linear Model (syngo
MR B13) or t-test) - 3D Visualization: fused display of fMRI results, color tvalue maps on anatomical datasets - Inline 3D real
time monitoring of the fMRI acquisition - On-the- Fly Adjustment for t-value thresholding, 3D clustering, and opacity control -
Data export to neurosurgical planning software (syngo MR B13) - Analysis of Signal Time Courses - Data Quality Monitoring: B0
field map, Cine display of the BOLD time series (syngo MR B13). All tasks fromstatistical evaluation of the fMRI datasets to
reading and exporting results are supported by BOLD 3D Evaluation syngo:

Generation of statistical maps: In cases an inline calculated statistical map is not available a statistical map can be generated
easily using processing protocols. An intuitive editor UI allows the paradigmdefinition and offers the selection of head motion
correction, image filters and statistical evaluation. Predefined processing protocols and paradigms are available. They can be
edited and saved to create a user specific database of processing protocols and paradigms. The paradigmused for statistical
evaluation is saved with the statistical map.

General Linear Model - Starting from syngo MR B13: additionally improved statistical evaluation using a
General Linear Model (GLM) approach:

Transitions between passive and active states can be modeled by the hemodynamic response function.
Correction of low-frequency trends.
Allows for time delays due to the BOLD-EPI slice order during a measurement.
Output of a t-value map and the GLM design matrix used.

3D Visualization of fMRI Results

Overlay of color t-value maps on anatomical 2D and 3D datasets.

examination can also be displayed together with fMRI results and anatomy.

Inline monitoringof the fMRI exam

During an ongoing BOLD imaging exam results are calculated (by Inline BOLD imaging) and displayed in real time.
The results are displayed and continuously updated as an overlay on online adjustable, free angulated cut planes
through the anatomical 3D data set.
The evolving signal time courses in task-related areas of activation can be displayed and monitored.

Tool for Pre-surgical Planning- The 3D display of functional brain mapping results allows a better understanding of the spatial
relationship between eloquent cortices, cortical landmarks and brain lesions like tumors. syngo BOLD 3D Evaluation helps to
present the fMRI results to the referring surgeon. If the DTI Evaluation option is available, DTI parameter images can also be
integrated in the fused display in order to be able to assess the tract shifts of white matter. SW version syngo MR B13 includes
dedicated multi planar reformatting and data export functions to neurosurgical planning software.
