PRODUCT INFORMATION

DESCRIPTION
The Addressable Relay Output Device (AO) is
a SmartOne
TM
Field Device. This component
is an intelligent device that contains its own mi-
croprocessor, 4K of memory, and all neces-
sary electronics to provide standard form C
dry contact type output, and is connected via
the SmartOne
TM
compatible control panels
power/communication line.
The AO is field programmable using the con-
trol panel keypad or Hand-Held Programmer.
The owner location message and reporting type
can be customized by the use of a program-
ming utility utilized with the control panel.
The AO is fully supervised and continuously
monitors the integrity of the following: Contact
position; Power/Communication voltage; Inter-
nal power supply; Memory status; and Device/
Panel Communication.
An internal set of relay contacts provides feed-
back of the Form C output relay position. If the
relay contact fails to operate at the appropriate
time, the device transmits a trouble status.
A status LED is mounted on the unit and indi-
cates the relay set or reset status by a 2 or 9
second flash interval. A Trouble condition in-
hibits the status LED completely.
The AO can be mounted in a North American
2-1/2 (64 mm) deep 1-gang box, or standard
4 square box 1-1/2 (38 mm) deep with 4
cover. The AO terminal block will accept #14,
#16 and #18 AWG wire (1.5 mm
2
, 1.0 mm
2
&
0.75 mm
2
respectively). Sizes #18 being a
minimum requirement.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
a. The AO Device is shipped from the factory as
an assembled component and is not field-
serviceable.
b. It is recommended that the AO Device
address be programmed prior to installation.
Refer to the control panel manual for device
address programming.
c. Make all wiring connections as shown in the
wiring diagram.
d. Ensure that all wiring is free of opens, shorts
and ground faults.
e. Verify that all wires are insulated up to the
terminal block, and that each terminal screw
is tight.
f. Mount the module to the electrical box using
the provided bracket. The AO must be
installed vertical with the terminal block
connections facing up.
g. Using two 6-32 machine screws, mount the
wall plate to the electrical box.

Notes
1. AO must be installed in the same room as
the device it is controlling .
2. Terminal connection supports wiring from
#18 AWG (0.75 mm
2
) to #14 AWG (1.5 mm
2
)
3. Refer to Control Panel Manual for address-
able loop wiring specification.
4. SLC wiring is power limited and
supervised.
WIRE STRIPPING
Strip 1/4 from the ends of all wires that connect to
the terminal block of the module.
1/4 (6.4mm)
CAUTION
Exposing more than 1/4 of wire may cause a
ground fault. Exposing less than 1/4 of wire
may result in a faulty connection.
Ground faults can be caused by a zero
impedance path between SLC field conductor
and earh ground.
Notes
1. For Power Limited Circuits, use Type FPL,
FPLR, or FPLP cable per Article 760 of NEC.
2. The note, TERMINALS 5-7 ARE POWER
LIMITED, located on the product label, must
be removed or marked out using permanent
marker if connected to a non-power limited
circuit.
3. To ensure all output devices (AOs or ASMs)
are activated within 10 seconds, a maximum
of 18 AOs or ASMs may be programmed in
response to an alarm or supervisory condition
from an SLC device.
4. Ground faults can be caused by a zero
impedance path between either SLC field
wiring and earth ground.
