Graphics engine
Interactive hidden line representation
Click Hidden Line Image in the border of the viewport to display the
current contents of the screen as an interactive hidden line representation.
These representations are now calculated directly by the graphics board,
which considerably speeds up the whole process so that you can move in
isometric viewports and animation windows in real time.
The only drawback is that all Allplan line types are represented by
continuous lines. Colors are displayed correctly. The criterion for removing
adjacent surface edges is the same pen or color in comparison with the
hidden line tool that removes adjacent surface edges based on the material
or surface element. As adjacent surface edges are not removed for the
representation in real time, Remove adjacent edges and Display hidden
edges with dashed lines cannot be active at the same time.
When you create hidden line images using the Hidden Line Image,
Wireframe tool (Tools menu or Standard toolbar) and the views in the
building structure, all line types are displayed correctly - but this can take
some time (depending on the size of the model).
A new feature for accelerated hidden line representations is the Also
calculate edges of intersecting areas mode. In this mode, an outline
polygon is used to trace all areas. The resulting edges are at points where
areas intersect other areas; in other words, these edges are not real edges.
As two areas meet at all edges, which means that there are also two lines
that are slightly offset, the representation appears bolder.

Effects of the new graphics engine on pattern lines and line
types
Pattern lines and line types are only displayed in plan and isometric view as
usual. In elevation views, however, they are viewed from the side and thus
look like continuous lines (demolition lines, for example).
The new graphics engine handles all lines as 3D lines.

New graphics engine and Citrix
Allplan's performance under Citrix depends, among other things, on the
network performance and can be somewhat slower compared to local
installations. When running Allplan 2011 under Citrix, the new graphics
engine is not active.

Hidden line images with unsupported graphics boards
The following message appears if you create a hidden line image and use a
graphics board that is not supported by Allplan 2011:
The graphics board and/or the driver do not meet the requirements. Function
scope and performance of screen output are thus limited.

Graphics engine and graphics board drivers
The new graphics engine now uses a graphics library, which has been
developed especially for CAD programs and visualization. A large part of
data is processed by the graphics board directly.
Therefore, graphics board drivers get more important. Those drivers
normally are provided by the manufacturers. Nemetschek Allplan GmbH
cooperates with leading graphics board manufacturers.
At the Allplan 2011 launch date, the latest generation of NVIDIA graphics
board drivers is still being revised in order to optimize memory management.
We suggest that you should regularly install updated graphics board drivers.
When using the current drivers, depending on certain working steps you may
have to close and restart Allplan in certain intervals.
Further notes on the graphics engine
Very large bitmap areas (site plans), pattern lines between splines or
similar elements may slow down the performance of the computer. The
same applies if the Speed / quality slide bar in the Options, Desktop
environment, Display is set to Best results or if Perfect and the
Refresh rate in navigation mode is set to a high value.
Layouts with detailing windows and Cut being active: display on screen
not correct, layout correct, PDF not correct.
Borders of detailing windows are not displayed with a thick line.
When you zoom in very close, points of intersection and end points are
not displayed precisely.
Bitmap area: hidden pixels are black in printouts, PDF correct.
Fills applied to smart symbols that consist of only one foil that contain
both 2D and 3D elements are not displayed.
Text written on top of fills with gradients and/or transparency is difficult to
read.
Accelerated hidden line representation: edges of intersecting areas
appear thicker than normal lines.
If a line starts at the point where two circles intersect and you zoom in
very close, this start point is not displayed correctly.

User-defined attribute forms
Allplan's dialog boxes are based on Microsoft's latest WPF technology.
Consequently, user-defined attribute forms from earlier versions no longer
work.
You can use the tool in the Object Manager module instead: Assign,
Modify Object Attributes or Assign Attributes to Elements, for
example.

Custom dialog boxes
Allplan 2011 provides technically modernized dialog boxes based on
Microsoft's latest WPF technology. Custom dialog boxes you created in
earlier version cannot be converted.

Blurred text in dialog boxes under Windows XP
When running Allplan 2011 under Windows XP, text in dialog boxes is
blurred. This is due to the known restriction of Microsoft .NET3 under
Windows XP.
We recommend Windows 7 or Windows Vista.

Products, manufacturers: PART offline catalog no longer
available
The PART Offline Catalog tool (Products, Manufacturers -
PARTcommunity Nemetschek module) is no longer available in Allplan
2011.
With Allplan Connect, Nemetschek Allplan GmbH provides its own solution
for content in V2011.

Timber Construction taster module no longer available
The Timber Construction taster module is no longer provided by WETO AG.

Data exchange with CINEMA 4D
Import CINEMA 4D Data does not yet support the new format of
CINEMA 4D R12.
But you can use the XML format for export in CINEMA 4D (File menu -
Export - Allplan).
Advanced information can be found in the online Help for Allplan. See the
section entitled "Overview of formats for exchanging data with CINEMA 4D".

CINEMA 4D interface
CINEMA 4D R12 cannot process data in C4U format; the update plugin is
not yet compatible.

Reports in the building structure
You can select reports and lists under the Lists node in the Derived from
building structure area.

Placing reports in drawing files
Only when you use code page 1252 (Western Europe) are reports placed
correctly in drawing files. This may result in incomplete reports in conjunction
with other code pages.


Symbol catalogs
The fire brigade symbol catalog is no longer available.

Outline auto-detect
Outline auto-detect in the dialog line is now controlled by the setting of
Polygonize elements on/off in the Input Options.
If Polygonize elements is not active, Outline auto-detect is not
available either. The setting of Polygonize elements does not affect how
the icon is displayed. In other words, changing the setting of Polygonize
elements does not change the appearance of this icon (it still appears
pressed in or not).
