(AZ-7.RP.A.1) Compute unit rates associated with ratios of fractions, including ratios of lengths, areas and other quantities measured in like or
different units.

Quiz Review

Write a corresponding proportion for each of the word problems.

Proportions
4. A college has a student to teacher ratio of 30 to 2. If there are 170 teachers at the
college, how many students attend the college?

9. Jackson Middle School has 4 students in choir for every 1 student in band. If there are
60 students in band, how many students are in choir?

Sample Unit Rate Problem
The price of gasoline has risen steadily over the past six months. Half a year ago, the
price per gallon was $2.90. Now, the price per gallon is approximately $3.50. What is
the rate of change in the price of gas over the past six months?

Gas has risen $.10 PER month

Thats because the price of gas has gone up $.60 (3.50-2.90) and that change has
taken place over a time period of 6 months

counting and after six months her total had risen to 34. At what rate did Melissas
magnet collection grow?

Steps: Finding Unit Rate

1. Write a proportion with the given ratio as the first ratio

2. Set the proportion equal to a ratio where the desired unit is set to 1

3. Use mental math or cross multiplying (creating an equation) to solve
