Impacts of MMS
MMS brought a revolutionary change in
data collection/production technology

Speed
Measure longer distance in shorter period
Safety
Lesser field works, more desktop operations
Multiple use
Collect 1 time, and generate data for many uses
Applications

High precision mapping of road space
Applications

Road inventory management
Applications
Pavement inspection Flood simulation
Tunnel inspection Damage level evaluation Slope face monitoring
and more
Spread MMS in Asia
Experimental operation in Bangkok
Successful result in low-altitude region
Strong expectation for new survey technology
Important findings to make MMS operational
Good Data Make City Smarter
Smart city relies on smart IT system
Well established information base is an urgent
need to manage rapidly growing Asian cities
MMS accelerate the development of city
database and maximise its value

Advanced analysis is impossible
without accumulated database!
It is so important to start data accumulation RIGHT NOW with right
way! Because it takes so log time to establish sufficient road database
for road asset management, ex. Deterioration forecasting.

Improved life length
Extended life expectancy
The life expectancy of an pavement improves by solving the problem of an unusual part which
deterioration speed is fast
As a result, the life cycle cost reduction and improve of service level is achieved
Heavy Loaded Pavement Evaluation and Assessment
Container transport has increased vehicle size and axle load
It causes critical damage to road pavements
The deterioration performance can be evaluated and the optimal repair
design and pavement structure can be proposed

Initial cost of type B is more expensive that of type A, but LCC
of Type B is cheaper than of type A due to the differences of

New Developed PMS - Next Steps
1. Expand pavement condition surveys for the whole nation
2. Develop WebGIS based database management for PMS datasets and Pavement
condition data
3. Upgrading PMS system: WebGIS based Operation; Customization: Flowchart of

What have been done for bridge ?
Vietnamese BMS - Bridgeman
Problems with BMS ?
Developed in MS Access compatible problems.
No coding data cumbersome, large data files
hard for database programming and management.
8 bit for data fields contain character (no Unicode)
require Vietnamese fonts to display the data
cannot display correctly in any browser.
Input new data to the database only through the
Bridgeman program.
No network interface
Lack inspection data
How is about Bridge Management System ?
