Introduction and Citation:
This report covers the period from Sat 27-9-2014 until Fri 3-10-2014. However, it is worth pointing
out the following:
1. Fatalities of the regime, the Army of National Defense (Shabiha), Lebanese Hizbullah, Iraqi and
Iranian Militias are not included in the reported death toll.
2. These fgures are not fnal in any way, and they are subject to continuous and periodic scrutiny
by centers activists, the data base administrators and the feld documentation team.
3. Figures may differ between reports, even within the same district, and this can be referred to the
territorial audit that would reveal places of errors and faults, as well as the continuous follow up to
identify undistinguished martyrs whenever they are identifed.
Martyrs of the Week:
During this period, the Violations Documentation Center in Syria managed to document (327) mar-
tyrs in all the Syrian governorates, (314) of whom were documented by names, while (13) i.e.(4 %) of
the total number, were unidentifed bodies because they had turned into carnages.
Three of them documented by photo and three documented by video and (7) were documented only
by witnessing.

First: the Distribution of Martyrs according to Governorates
Damascus Suburbs governorate witnessed the fall of the largest number of martyrs, as the total
number was (105 martyrs) i.e. (32 %), followed by Homs (51 martyrs) i.e. (16 %), then Daraa (38
martyrs) followed by Aleppo (37 martyrs).

Second: the Distribution of Martyrs according to Death Causes
(112) martyrs i.e. (35 %) died as a result of fre shots and sniper bullets, whereas (76) of them i.e.
(23.5 %) died because of air shelling and barrel bombs. Moreover, (55) martyrs i.e. (17 %) killed
because of artillery shelling and mortar shelling.
VDC has also documented (21) detainees under torture in detention centers around Syria, and two
martyrs due to Siege by regime forces.

Third: the Distribution of Martyrs according to the Days of the Week
Wednesday 1th October 2014 witnessed the fall of the largest number of martyrs, when (87) of
them fell i.e. (27 %) of the total number. After that, Friday 3 October 2014 witnessed the fall of (59)
martyrs i.e. (18 %) then Monday 29 September 2014 witnessed the fall of (48) martyrs.
Fourth: the Distribution of Martyrs according to Gender
The number of male adult martyrs is (249 martyrs), i.e. (76 %) of the total number, the number of
male children is (32 children), i.e. (10 %), the number of adult females is (16 martyrs), i.e. (5 %), the
number of female children is (30 martyrs) i.e. (9 %).

Fifth: the Distribution of Martyrs according to the Category (Civilian/ Noncivilian)
(195) civilian martyrs were reported i.e. (60 %) of the total number of martyrs, while only (132) fght-
ers fell i.e. (40 %).

Sixth: Other
During this period Violations Documentation Center has documented more than (17) martyrs
at the hands of the Islamic State in Iraq and Sham (ISIS/Daash) including (7) civilians, and (10)
fghters of the Free Syrian Army and other fghting factions.
Seventh: Victims of International Coalition against ISIS:
During this week, the Violations Documentation Center in Syria was able to document the death
of twelve persons were killed during those operations, including several civilians in addition to
document the death of several fghters from different factions, including Nusra Front. The Center
(VDC) was unable to document or know the exact numbers of the fghters of the Islamic State of
Iraq and the Sham (Daash) killed during these strikes.
