Call for Applications

IPSF Internship at WHO Health Promotion Unit,
Department of Prevention of Noncommunicable Diseases (PND)

IPSF is delighted to introduce you to an internship opportunity at the World Health Organization
(WHO). Through IPSF, the WHO Health Promotion Unit will recruit one pharmacy student or recent
graduate to work at the main headquarters in Geneva.

Duration
27th October to 5th December 2014

Programme
Under the supervision of Dr Kwok-Cho (KC) Tang, Senior Advisor on Health Promotion and
Noncommunicable Diseases of WHO, the intern will execute mainly on the project of the following
context:


Depending on the intern's area of interests and skills alongside with the approval from the WHO
supervisor, IPSF additionally offers an opportunity to:
- Contribute to the IPSF Policy / Public Health Committees as their co-opted member;
- Attend conferences and represent IPSF at meetings within the United Nations system in Geneva
with either permanent or special ground passes to UN buildings.

Eligibility

WHO may accept applicants who fulfil all of the following conditions as interns:

- Applicants who are enrolled in a course of study in a recognized University or equivalent
institution leading to a formal qualification, graduate or post-graduate, covering the period of
the internship, OR, has completed the formal qualification within the last six months;
- Applicants who are fluent in at least one of the working languages of the office of assignment,
namely English is a requirement;
- Applicants who are not related to a staff member (e.g. son/daughter, brother/sister or
mother/father);
- Applicants who have not previously participated in a WHO internship programme;
- Applicants who are not current tobacco users.

When accepting the internship, interns agree to:

- Conduct themselves at all times in accordance with the standards of conduct expected of a
person working in an international environment in a specialised agency of the United Nations
system.
- Refrain from any conduct that would adversely reflect on WHO or on the receiving department
and not engage in any activity which is incompatible with the aims and objectives of the
Organization.
- Provide the receiving programme with a copy of all materials prepared during the internship.

- Interns may not disclose or make use of any unpublished or confidential information that comes
to their knowledge in the course of their internship. The provisions relating to texts prepared for
publication apply also to interns.
- Submit a written report at the end of the internship to be reviewed by the supervisor and other
interested parties.
- Interns are expected to devote themselves full-time to the assignments of the receiving unit for
the period of the internship.

When offering an internship, the receiving programme agrees to:
- Ensure that an intern's assignment is related to his/her field of study, meaningful for both the
programme and the intern, and at the appropriate level of complexity and variety.
- Review progress regularly and provide adequate feedback and coaching/mentoring during the
internship.
- Provide office accommodation and related support facilities to enable the intern to undertake
the assignment.
- At the end of the internship, prepare a written evaluation of the intern's performance and
provide the intern with feedback.

How to Apply for the IPSF-WHO Health Promotion Internship
WHO will be responsible for the final selection of applicant(s). Successful applicant(s) undertaking an
internship will not be financially remunerated by WHO or IPSF. Applicants will be responsible for
their own travel and living expenses.

The deadline for this application is 30th September 2014.

As part of your application please submit:
- A curriculum vitae (CV)
- A one-page motivation letter
- A short essay (maximum 800 words) on the topic - emergency supply of medicines to less
developed countries. All essays must be the original work of the applicant. IPSF reserves the
right to publish the essays received (with acknowledgement of the author).
- A membership confirmation letter from your IPSF member organisation.
- Proof of the applicants health/medical insurance which should be valid in Europe including
Switzerland and covering the duration of the internship;
- Proof that the intern is enrolled in a course of study in a recognized University or equivalent
institution leading to a formal qualification, graduate or post-graduate, covering the period of
the internship, or, has completed the formal qualification within the last six months;
- A scanned copy of the main page(s) of the national passport.


The full application shall be submitted electronically to internship@ipsf.org no later than September
30 (00:00 GMT).

Only PDF format of all applications will be accepted, with an exception of the essay which is expected
in an editable format. The results of the internship selection will be announced to all candidates by
