The following technical details are to guide you in your final choice of actuator and should be considered before any decision is made.
There are two types of Actuators: 1) Linear/Rack Actuators (rigid rod), 2) Chain Actuators (flexible chain).
The linear/rack actuator can offer great performance and push high loads, but has a requirement both physical and aesthetic,
which is not always acceptable. The actuator body has to move in a pivoting motion from its brackets, therefore it is necessary
to verify that there are no obstacles to its rotational movement. This has to be done to prevent damage to the actuator itself or to
the window. The linear/rack actuator takes up more space than the total opening stroke usually 200mm 300mm further. If a rod
actuator is unsuitable, a chain actuator must be used, subject to weight restrictions.
The chain actuator operates generally at a lower thrust power and requires a limited space, as well as being aesthetically pleasing. This
improves the appearance of the window, compared with other options.
Chain actuators on top hung or bottom hung windows, less than 800mm in length, require the installation of swivel brackets to hold the
actuator. This allows the unit to pivot whilst the chain operates and thus not damage the unit. For hopper frame windows, i.e. bottom hinged
windows that open inward, chain actuators are definitely preferable, although the height of window must be checked.
Most windows that can be opened allow the application of any type of actuator.
For windows having a width larger than 1500mm a single actuator is not enough. At this size the window and the safety of the installation
requires the application of more than one actuator, usually linked to a synchronisation device. Please consult Vent Engineering for the correct
actuator, if you are unsure.
The indicated loads do not include the force exerted by wind or other extreme weather conditions. If the actuator is installed in areas that
may be subject to these conditions, contact our technical department.
Winter maintenance
It is good practice to operate the actuators regularly throughout the winter months. This is to ensure that the vents do not seize up and put
undue strain on the motor leading to it burning out.
Window type
For bottom hinged windows (hinges on the
bottom side, inward opening) we recommend
that chain actuators are installed: they do not
take up space inside the room and are
aesthetically discreet. Moreover, for these kind
of installations, special protection classes (IP
rating) for water or powders are not usually required. The installation
of linear actuators would need very long brackets (not available).
For top hinged windows (hinges on the top
side, outward opening) we recommend the
installation of actuators with a special
protection class (IP rating) and enough
power to support, with sufficient rigidity, the
maximum load that occurs when the window
is completely opened.
For roof windows (skylights, domes, etc) we
recommend the installation of actuators with
a special protection class (IP rating) and
enough power to support with sufficient
rigidity the maximum load, that occurs when
the window is completely opened.
For horizontal pivoting windows, that chain
actuators are installed: they do not take up
space inside the room and are aesthetically
discreet. Moreover, for these kind of
installations, special protection classes (IP
rating) for water or powders are not usually
required. The installation of linear actuators
would need very long brackets (not available).
For operating sun blade or louvre type
windows, a rack or linear type actuator
should be used. The total movement
required will determine the stroke and
the actuator you require.
For side hung windows (casement windows,
inside opening) we recommend the
installation of a chain actuator on the
vertical side. It is impossible to obtain a 90
opening.

Actuator stroke
For a window to open wide, the following factors need to be taken into consideration:
a) For a chain actuator, the stroke must not exceed 1/3 of the window height, otherwise the bending chain would cause a loss of
rigidity and therefore loss of performance.
b) For a linear actuator it is necessary to consider the actuator intrusion into the room. Looks apart, the actuator rotation angle
must also be taken into account. It is necessary to evaluate carefully the position of the rotational axis choosing and
positioning the fixing brackets. Vent Engineering can provide linear actuators with side brackets for this purpose.
Actuator force
To calculate the window opening and closing force, please refer to the following simplified formula:
Bottom Hinged Window Top Hinged Window
Therefore, the greater the window height, the lower the force and stroke required.
Horizontal Windows (roof windows, skylights, domes, etc.)
For inclined windows
Apply the formula for horizontal windows. This is necessary if during opening the window lies in a
horizontal position. Do take precautions in the other cases.
Note: In the above mentioned formulas, the wind and snow load have not been considered.
Wind Load
On wider windows please consider the following: if they are very high the greatest part of their weight is loaded onto the hinges
and the required opening force is greatly reduced. However, high winds the force on a large surface is considerable and the actu-
ator must be chosen carefully.
Protection Class
The chain actuators are less protected from contamination by water or dust, sand, etc. than the linear actuators. Some linear
actuators, with protection class IP 65, are practically watertight in static conditions. For this reason we suggest installing chain
actuators on bottom hinged windows or, in combination with a rain sensor, on top hinged windows.
Large Windows
For very large or wide windows you will require more than one pushpoint. When a large window is closed, its corners cannot be
watertight or airtight with only one pushpoint. When opened, the stability is compromised by wind. We strongly recommend installing two
push (or pull) points if the window is larger than 1500mm or if the rigidity of the frame is not of a good standard.
The installation of two actuators on the same window is possible but requires a synchronisation unit or a two chain actuator.
This is because it is not possible to guarantee the constant speed of single push actuator. The consequences if one eventually
slows significantly or fails result in damage to the second actuator or the window.

The electronic control of the chain allows seven
stroke end positions. It is easily adjustable at
any moment by acting on the width adjusting
screw, situated on both sides of the actuator.
The aesthetic design makes the actuator
suitable for most locations.
The electric parts are double
insulated (therefore earth wire is not necessary).
On the chain end (double-linked and made of
STAINLESS steel) it is possible to effect a
10mm adjustment. The maximum available
stroke is 400mm.
Comes with 8 metre cable option
The actuator is marked and complies with
the CEE EN 60335-1, 89/336 CEE

TERMS AND CONDITIONS
In these conditions Ventec 100 Ltd is referred to as the Company and the person contracting with the Company is referred to as the Customer.
All contracts made by the Customer with the Company shall be on the terms hereof and the Customer shall not be entitled to rely upon any
statement (other than the terms of this Contract) whether oral or written and whether express of implied given or made by or on behalf of the
Company.
AVAILABILITY
All delivery dates are subject to war strikes civil commotions lockouts breakdown of machinery or any other cause beyond the Companys control
and also to the Customer giving to the Company all particulars necessary for delivery to be made within any stated delivery times.
PRICES
All prices are subject to change without notice and are exclusive of value added tax carriage and delivery charges.
QUOTATIONS
Any quotation given by the Company is
a) To be regarded as an invitation for the Customer to make an offer and the quotation itself is not an offer by the Company and
b) Subject to any fluctuation in the price to be paid by the Company for the goods import or any other duty and foreign exchange rates and also
subject to the availability of the goods to the Company.
c) All quotations are valid for a period of 30 days unless otherwise agreed.
TERMS
Payment shall be made by the Customer by the 21st day of the month following the date of invoice. If payment is not made on the due date the
Company shall have the right to require payment of interest on the outstanding amount at the rate of 3% per month from the due date until the date
of actual payment (whether before or after Judgement) and any discount which may have been given to the Customer will be disallowed and the full
price payable in accordance with the terms of this condition.
The Customer hereby agrees to reimburse the Company on a full indemnity basis all costs and expenses incurred in either the repossession of
goods sold to the Customer and not paid for or in the collection of payment for goods sold and delivered to the Customer.
OWNERSHIP
a) The title to any goods purchased from the Company shall only pass to the Customer upon payment in full of the price thereof.
b) Until such payment the Customer shall store the goods in such a way to show clearly they are the property of the Company.
c) The Company reserves the right to repossess any of the goods and equipment to which it has title hereunder and for this purpose the Customer
hereby grants an irrevocable right and licence to the Company its servants and agents to enter upon all or any of the Customers premises with
such transport as may be necessary during normal working hours to collect the said goods.
Notwithstanding that title to the goods has not passed to the Customer by reason of the foregoing the goods and equipment shall be at the
Customers risk from the time of delivery to him or to any carrier or agent acting on his behalf.
The right of the Company to recover possession of the goods from the Customer shall be in addition to all other rights the Company has against the
Customer.
WARRANTY
a) The Companys liability in respect of any faulty goods shall be limited to damage caused to the goods by the Company and shall not extend to any
defect in manufacture nor to any consequential loss or damage howsoever caused by such or any other defect.
b) The Company shall not under any circumstances whatsoever be liable for any loss (which expression in this clause included injury damage or
delay) or for any consequential loss arising out of any cause whatsoever relating to the goods and in particular due to any malfunctioning of or
defect in or failure of any of the goods or any part thereof or any loss of the use of the goods or any part thereof.
c) Any warranties or conditions statutory or otherwise whether express or implied as to the quality or fitness for the purpose of the goods are
expressly excluded in so far as such exclusion is allowed at law.
d) This agreement shall unless otherwise stated be governed by the laws of England.
CLAIMS
The Customer shall inspect the goods and equipment immediately on delivery and shall within three days of such inspection give notice in writing to
the Company of any matter or thing by reason whereof it is alleged that the goods are not in accordance with this Contract. If the Customer shall fail
to give notice these said goods and equipment shall be deemed to be in all respects in accordance with this Contract.
RETURNS
Goods supplied in accordance with Customer orders cannot be accepted for return without our written consent. If approval is given a handling
charge will be made. Returned goods must be confirmed and carriage paid.
GUARANTEE
Our products are guaranteed for a period of 12 months from date of invoice against electrical breakdown or mechanical failure resulting from
defective materials and/or workmanship providing the breakdown or failure is not due to misuse or operation under adverse conditions. Any unit
proving faulty and covered by the provisions of this guarantee must be returned to our works complete carriage paid, for examination when it will be
repaired or replaced at our option, stating the relevant sales invoice no. Units that have been dismantled, or cables that have been cut or removed,
are exempt from this guarantee.
