Creative Visualization- Power to achieve your life goals

In creative visualization we use the power of imagination to create a mental image

of what we want to accomplish in our life . As Carl Sandburg aptly said “ Nothing
happens unless we first dream” As such the things happen twice, first in our mind
and then in reality and this technique is very commonly used by sportsmen in track and
field events, golf , cricket and even by industrialists , entrepreneurs , scientists etc.
The well re-known self-help guru , Norman Vincent Peale in his classic best seller
“Power of Positive thinking” asserts the role and importance of Positive affirmations
and creating a mental image of what we want to achieve through a mind process .
Even Rhonda Byrne’s The Secret and Law of Attraction also emphasizes the role
of positive imagery as induced by the subject to portray one’s image as per the
aspirations.

Why do we need “Creative Visualization “ as a process and can’t we rely upon our
mind to achieve our goals. Before we delve into the depth of this topic , let us understand
the nature of our human mind. As per the tenets of Tibetan Buddhism , an insight
into human mind reveals that there are two different kinds, one which possesses
discriminating powers, with a sense of duality . It thinks, plots, indulges in various
types of emotions both positive and negative , and vacillate between good and bad .This
ordinary mind called “Sem “ is shiftless , wavering with a tendency to condition itself.
Our basal mind or “Sem” is usually clouded with train of thoughts, emotions, mental
clutter gathering lot of dust and cobwebs, which makes it foggy and fuzzy.

Then there is the core nature of human mind, its innermost essence, which is
untouched by such vicissitudes of life and seeks bliss and happiness. This pure, pristine
mindful state or awareness as it is better known in called “Rigya” in Tibetan Buddhism.
Since pure awareness is a state of Buddhahood , this very nature of mind with its
innermost essence of bliss and tranquility , is least affected by scurry of mental
thoughts, emotions and other vagaries of our life.Vaguely it may be referred to as
our subconscious mind. The nature of both our minds is reflected upon our physical
existence and the dominant component portrays our personality traits.

When we initiate the process of “Creative Visualization” we actually put on our

mental TV screen with the Remote control surfing through, from those dull and sullen
Channels to the brighter and more cherubic channels which perks up our thoughts and
spirit.

When using “creative Visualization” technique ,we use the following affirmations
and principles:

Build up your reservoir of faith :

Start with those smaller, believable and reachable goals, this will bolster your belief
system and give you self confidence.

Develop a feeling of prosperity and abundance. It is very important to have a self

belief that our universe is infinite and abundant and there is no scarcity except
in our mind sets.

Remember that some things may “ go wrong” and one should n’t be bogged down
by such down trends and debacles.

And always ask for what you want and expect to receive it with open arms.

Express your gratitude and be thankful to the giving force.

Try this simple exercise.

Sit in a comfortable position and relax your body and mind. Use one of the meditation
techniques to relax your physical body parts by moving from feet upwards to legs,
abdomen, torso, shoulders, facial muscles , eyes and the brow. Likewise relax your mind
process by focusing on your breathing, both inhaling and exhaling. Prefer using a chair
with back rest or sitting in “sukh asana” and avoid lying on the bed which may induce
short sleepy spells. Say if you want to improve your sports skills, visualize yourself
playing that game with your best shot ,cheers from the crowd and try looking
at yourself from the gallery with applaudings. If you want to look slim and trim,
healthy and fit, look at yourself through your mental mirror , and see that you
have shed a few pounds, melted down those extra flab and are having a beautiful
and robust body. Enhance your creative visualization process by a process of
“streaming” and anchoring ,with self talk and positive affirmations.

To increase the impact of “Creative Visualization”:

…..make the image as realistic as possible,
……feel the emotions associated with the image,
…..bring in other emotions like smell, touch, sound, colour etc so that a more realistic
image is passed on to your subconscious mind and gets embedded there.

Creative visualization technique is effectively used for relaxation, for meditation

especially by beginners and as a cure for insomnia , anxiety and stress, phobias and
manias.

Over a period of time, with regular practice of power of imagination and

creative visualization ,one is able to achieve the goals at all the levels, physical,
emotional, mental and spiritual. NLP and Self hypnosis also helps in building
up the depth of “Creative Visualization”.
