It is that time of year when family reunions seem to occur every week
end. We attended our wifes affair in Ponca City two weekends ago. This
past weekend we celebrated our own semi-annual event here in Pond Creek.
This reunion celebrates the descedents of I S. Hoar, who made the Chero
kee Strip Run on September 16, 1893. A slew of cousins started the
reunion about thirty-years ago and it is slowly dwindling down with partici
pants as a great many of the original cast are now gone.
Bill Estill, at a ripe old age of 92 years, k **e leader today. He retired
many years ago from Vaters Implement in Enid. It is no longer in busi
ness. We were amazed at his appearance as he looked younger, for his
age, then all the rest of we kin folk.
We are sill amazed that our families have all done so well from that initial
run by I. S., who along with George Nelson and A. B. Eakin left Towanda,
Kansas, for Hennesey to register for the Run" on September 14. Two days
later they would all make the ride of their lives.
I. S. would settle on a claim near Carrier, and start a farm stead for his
wife and ten kids. This group and their off spring set up our present reunion.
It was quite bit at the start when they would meet at Government Springs
Park in Enid
It is also hard to imagine our area of Garfield and Grant Counties devoid
of railroad track, highways and wheat elevators. In 1893, there were no
fields of amber grain or com as high as an elephants eye! Trees were few
and far between, too. This area had been home to buffalo herds or cattle
trails for hundreds of years.
These that made The Run" created a whole new society of farmers and
business folk who would populate Grant and Garfield counties and help
make our state one of the best in the nation. In spite of our weather, our
reunion reminds us that we havent done Half Bad ."
On Thursday, July 31 at 4:49 p.m.
Report of a 400 ft trailer was stolen
and a 92 year trailer was stolen from
the Taxoma Yard Tank.
9:45 p.m. Semi was blocking the
south bound lane 1 south of Haskell
and Red Hill Road.
On Friday, August 1 at 12:38 a.m.
Report of a non jury accident 81000
Hwy11 vehicle went into the ditch
and reporting party wanted to know
if they could leave it there over night,
advised individual that it could be
towed by the construction company
if it was in their way in the morning
and if we have any reports on ve
hicle in roadway it will be towed
At 1:36 a.m. Individual has locked
himself out of his house, he has a
broken neck and is in need of some
assistance gaining entrance to his
house 323 S. 3rd.
4:00 a.m. Approx. 20 head of
cattle reported in roadway of 2900
Block of CR 850 Another individual

Attempted to contact owner.
7:51 a.m. Reporting party wanted
to know if her son was lodged in
Grant County. He was pulled over
Tuesday night in Norman that he
was warrants out in our county, she
has not heard from him since. Ad
vised individual we have placed hold
