TONY PERRY LA TIMES : A former staff member of yours went to the police department, made

allegations of sexual harassment against you, some of those allegations involving conduct allegedly in
this very suite, in your office. Interviewed by the police, sex crimes folks, sent the report over to the
District Attorneys office where it sits as we speak The District Attorney assures the press that they
investigate all of these sorts of things. Your response to these allegations by your former staff member
that you sexually harassed him and then tried to intimidate him or bribe him into silence
DeMaio: Well as you all know, our office was broken into. And thats well documented facts. That case
was fully investigated and that case is now on the District Attorneys desk. I do not want to jeopardize
and independent investigation by commenting on a cover story that the prime suspect has tried to
concoct.
PERRY: So youre saying that his allegations that you sexually harassed him in this office and elsewhere
are not true.
DeMaio: Absolutely untrue. You know, an individual who is the prime suspect to the break-in in our
campaign office would manufacture such an outrageous lie, but again, all the evidence that was
collected by the police department clearly indicated this individual was the prime suspect and its
unfortunate but we will continue to allow the District Attorney to proceed with her case and weighing
the case to prosecute for the break-in of our office.
PERRY: Were you interviewed by the sex crime detectives?
DEMAIO: We have provided all information to the police de
PERRY: Were you interviewed by the sex crime detectives.
DEMAIO: Nods yes. We were interviewed by the detectives.
PERRY: We, youre using the word we DEMAIO (talking over) Our entire campaign team PERRY (talking
over) How bout an I?
DEMAIO: All of our campaign members including myself freely provided information and the police chief
called me and she said thank you for your full cooperation and we consider this matter closed.
STORYHOUND: Which matter?
DEMAIO: The counter allegation from the
STORYHOUND: The harassment?
DEMAIO: from the suspect in the criminal PERRY or STORYHOUND: You said police chief DEMAIO: From
the criminal investigation.
One of the reporters: Youre saying that Chief Zimmerman has assured you that part, is a closed matter.
DEMAIO: Yes. And she informed me of this in August And I do know that the case against this individual
is has been proffered to the district attorney and again I do not want to comment on any evidence that
was collected and provided regarding the break-in into our office but this is, again, par for the course in
politics. If an individual does something wrong, they will continue to make up something. And I think
thats pretty shameful. Our campaign has been very very confident that this individual will be held
accountable for their actions.
