Proteose peptone and beef extract suppl# nitrogenous and carbonaceous compounds. Yeast
extract provides vitamin B complex and dextrose is t%e fermentable carbo%#drate and energ#
source. Pol#sorbate $0 supplies fatt# acids re8uired for t%e metabolism of Lactobacilli. Sodium
acetate and ammonium citrate in%ibit Streptococci0 moulds and man# ot%er microorganisms.
Magnesium sulp%ate and manganese sulp%ate provide essential ions for multiplication of
lactobacilli. P%osp%ates provide good bu9ering action in t%e media.
Lactobacilli are microaerop%illic and generall# re8uire la#er plates for aerobic cultivation on solid
