Dela Torre, Don Michael et al, engineering students at LSPU-SCC proposed a research entitled
USB File Copier. In this study, the device was used as a medium to copy files from Flash drives to
another. The flash drive was connected to the USB port of the device, and in order to copy files, the user
must select items that can be seen on the screen or LCD, once selected, the USB File Copier will
automatically transfer the chosen files. The researchers recommended the use of the device in state of
urgency and emergency like blackout or power interruptions.
Their study was similar to some aspects of our research, the idea of maximizing the use of flash
memory, copying and identifying files with ease and the use of LCD. However, it differs because the
researchers focused on the USB File Copier and not in Flash drives. Compare to their study, our device
will just show the files but cant copy from another without the aid of computers or other devices.
The following studies will show the other applications and uses of innovated Flash drives and
flash memory. Morales, Lanie Rose et al, engineering students at Technological University of the
Philippines Visayas conducted a research project about electronic safe lock, the research was entitled
USB Flash Drive Activated Electronic Safe. The objective of the study is to design a hard-to-crack
security system to have a better safekeeping, the Flash drive will be integrated and interfaced to a
microcontroller. The researchers used programming in making the electronic safe stored in vaults, once
inserted, the Flash drive will act as the predefined password of the safe lock.
The concept of their device was related to the goal of our research, it is to maximize the use of
modern Flash drives. Compared to our research, they only focused on electronic safe locks, the use of
Flash drives in their research was not well highlighted.
Evangelista, Francis Mark et al, computer engineering students at Mapua Institute of Technology
explained the management of files from external memory like Flash drives through the use of mobile
phones, the idea was well explained in their research File Management of a USB Flash Drive and
Memory Card via Micro SD Slot of a Mobile Phone. Their project aims to make a prototype based on
the constructed idea, they also want to know if they can copy or move any files from flash drives and
other flash memory device to the users mobile phones, and to prove that the transferred data was in
the desired destination with no corruption. Their device has specific slots for USB flash drives, micro SD
and SD memory cards, the device was connected to the mobile phone via micro SD slot, once the device
was activated, the user will be able to browse, copy, delete, and move files from the external device.
Based on their research, the device they created will make it possible to manage files from
external drives to the users mobile phones. Similar to our study, you can browse your files in your flash
drive through the use of LCD, though, their research needs mobile phones to view files. They can also
copy, move and delete files that made their study different to ours. The use of flash drives on our
research was limited but innovated, the simple idea of viewing files without the aid of computers and
other devices.
