Memory Verse Key Instructions

** Sophomore Bible **
Please read the following instructions for the Memory Verse Key carefully, and ask Mr. Halpin any
questions you have. These instructions apply to all Memory Verses throughout this course.
Each Memory Verse we do in Sophomore Bible will require you to make a Key with a few different
elements. BEFOE takin! your Verse "est on the desi!nated testin! day# please make sure that you
ha$e chosen a passa!e and created a Key for your Verse "est. %f you do not ha$e a Key on the day of
your "est# you will not be allowed to take the "est on that day. &ou will take the "est on a later date
and recei$e late credit.
'( For each Verse Test Key, you must choose and carefully write down a passage from a selection
chosen and posted by Mr. Halpin. This passage must be 75 words or more. lease include the
following in your Memory Verse Key!
a. The reference for your passage
b. The translation "ersion of the #ible you are using
c. $ word%for%word copy of the passage you ha"e chosen
d. $ word count
)( For each Verse Test Key, you must e&plain the contet of the passage. For the purposes of this
class, the contet will include the e"ents immediately before and immediately following your
passage. Ma'e sure to include ( or ) clear, complete sentences for your !efore conte&t and ( or )
clear, complete sentences for your after conte&t. These sentences should be a summary of the
"erses or chapters surrounding your passage, not a direct *uote.
*( For each Verse Test Key, you must e&plain the significance of the passage you ha"e chosen. This
e&planation needs to be no shorter than ) clear, complete sentences. +ou may do so by answering
one or more of the following three *uestions!

% Before this passage, <od recounts to 0eremiah the innumerable ways in which the
4sraelites ha"e disobeyed Him. From the time they left Agypt until now they ha"e
continuously disobeyed <od.
% .fter this passage, <od begins to describe what His punishment for them will loo' li'e.
*( This passage comes at the end of a larger passage in which <od seems to be de"astated that his
people continue to ma'e bad choices that enrage him and harm themsel"es. 4 am amaBed by
what seems to be his profound sadness at the choices of his people. 4t seems li'e it should be
really important for me to 'now that <od is highly emotionally in"ested in His people, and is
deadly serious about their obedience.
