Narrative On 10/3/14 at about 11:50 pm, Potsdam Police Department was contacted to
respond to a Personal Injury auto accident on Pierrepont Ave. near the intersection
of Potsdam Drive. When patrols arrived on scene it was determined two SUNY
Potsdam students were struck by a vehicle traveling North on Pierrepont Avenue.
Both pedestrians were transported to Canton Potsdam Hospital where they were
treated for non life-threatening injuries.
After a lengthy investigation where Potsdam Police Department was assisted by
the St. Lawrence County Sheriffs Office and University of Potsdam Police, it was
determined that Victoria Vanderhall, who was not in a crosswalk, had darted while
on foot into the Northbound lane of travel and into the path of a Northbound
vehicle. The other pedestrian attempted to pull Vanderhall from the path of the
vehicle and both subjects were struck.
Vanderhall was determined to be at fault for the accident and was issued a Uniform
Traffic Ticket for walking into the path of a motor vehicle.
