Select Course: MGENROMANDAU2014
Grading and Exam Policies:
Grades will be based on homework questions, the average of two midterm exams and the final. A
total of three midterm exams will be given; the lowest score will be dropped. The final exam will be
comprehensive and will not be dropped.
Homework will be 15% of the grade, for the other 85%, equal weight will be given to each exam.
All exams will consist of short multiple choice questions ONLY. Questions on exams will
cover material presented in the lectures. Lectures will usually not cover all of the material outlined
in the text readings, and sometimes lectures will cover material that is not in the book.
Exams will typically be graded by one week after the exam was given. Exam grades will be
curved depending on the range and the average score. If necessary, curving will be applied up to a
maximum of 15 percentage points to raise the class average score to 72.
Exams will be given at the scheduled times listed on the course outline ONLY. You must take
your exams in your registered section. Absence from more than one exam will result in an exam grade of
zero.

Example 1: A student misses a midterm exam.
Result: This exam is dropped.

Example 2: A student takes all three midterm exams.
Result: The highest two midterm exams will be averaged with the final exam to determine the
final grade.

Example 3: A student misses two midterm exams.
Result: The one exam will be dropped and the other exam grade will be a zero.
Example 4: A student is satisfied with his/her grade after the first two midterm exams.
Result: The student can skip the third midterm exam and receive the grade based on the first two
exams and the final exam.

YOUR FINAL GRADE WILL BE CALCULATED BY DIVIDING THE SUM OF YOUR CURVED,
CUMULATIVE EXAM SCORES BY THREE. THIS WILL BE 85% OF YOUR GRADE. THE
OTHER 15% WILL BE THE AVERAGE OF YOUR HOMEWORK GRADES.
THE GRADING SCALE WILL BE:
A = 100-92, A- = 91-89, B+ = 88-84, B=83-80, B- = 79-74, C+ = 73-70, C=69-66, C- = 65-62,
D+ = 61-59, D=58-55, D- = 54-50, F=Below 50
The above schedule and procedures in this course are subject to change in the event of extenuating
circumstances.
Whenever possible, and in accordance with 504/ADA guidelines, the University of Houston will attempt
to provide reasonable academic accommodations to students who request and require them. Please call
