Objective: Students will demonstrate an understanding and appreciation of the role of physics in society and develop knowledge, skills and methods employed by physicists. Emphasis will be placed on the applications of physics to everyday living and the skills needed in the workplace. Students will be engaged in the investigation of scientific questions and the development of plausible solutions.
Daily reading and review will be essential to ensure success in this course. Keeping up with vocabulary and homework assignments will be mandatory. Projects, labs, quizzes, homework checks and tests will comprise the bulk of the marks collected. Note-taking will be a normal occurrence. You have been warned.
Expectations: A willingness to learn!! This requires you to be punctual and prepared each class. In addition to basic school supplies you will be required to have a calculator, ruler and coloured pencils. Students who arrive to class late will not be able to participate in any activity or quiz given during that time. It is the responsibility of each student to make up any missed work resulting from a late or absence. Students who miss tests and quizzes for reason of illness or family emergency will make up the test/ quiz on the first day they return to class. Absences for Athletic/School Events will be excused only if you have personally made prior arrangements with me otherwise assignments will count as late. Assignments and homework will be collected and marked without advance warning. If you are absent from a class, it is your responsibility to contact a dependable friend to find out what you have missed and to be prepared for the next class.
CLASSROOM EXPECTATIONS: 1) Expect to conduct yourself with personal integrity. 2) Expect to spend class time in the classroom. Use the drinking fountain and/or the washroom before coming to class. Students will not normally be permitted to leave the classroom once class has started. 3) Be on time (in your seat before the bell). It is expected that all students arrive on time and with all materials (Binder, Textbook, Workbook, Calculator, Pencil and Eraser) necessary to participate in the lesson. 4) NO FOOD OR DRINK is permitted in the classroom, with the exception of WATER. 5) No hats, toques, beanies, etc. permitted in the classroom. 6) Please leave mp3 players, iPods, cell phones, etc. outside the classroom. 7) Please display politeness to all members of the class at all times. Listen when someone else talks. Only one person can talk at a time. If you have something to say, raise your hand and wait for your turn. 8) Be prepared to work: a good work ethic will make the year much easier for you. 9) Use class time wisely by remaining in your seat and completing assignments or studying. Students are expected to work until the bell unless otherwise instructed. No packing up before class is over. 10) Being away is never an excuse for incomplete assignments.

There will be many quizzes! They will often be based on the homework/class work. Because of this, it is important to complete all of last days homework and ask for help before you come to class. Expect at least one or two per week.
Extra Help: Extra help is usually available before or after school. Remember that most topics build on the previous class so stay on top of your assignments and catch up as soon as possible if you miss a class. Come in for extra help whenever you are the least bit confused. When in doubt, always ask a question.
Supplies Required: 3 ring binder pencil and pen graph paper (4mm) calculator ruler protractor
