(w/c 22

September)

To be submitted as follows:

A Hard Copy submitted to your seminar leader at the start of your
enrolled class; and;
A Soft (file) copy submitted to Turnitin via Moodle.

The syndicate case study is based on SunRice Limited (Hereafter SunRice).

For the purpose of this assessment, your syndicate is asked to assume the role of a Consulting team that
has been appointed to advise the Board and Senior Management of SunRice.

Please note: The SunRice Annual Reports issued in 2013 & 2014 are a valuable source of background
information on the company and are available on the SunRice website
(https://www.sunrice.com.au/media/449992/SunRice-Annual-Report-2014.pdf)
It is recommended that you utilise information available in the public domain to supplement the
information available in the annual reports.

Your analysis, for the purpose of this assessment, should focus on the main operating businesses of
SunRice; while still reflecting the publicly listed nature of SunRice.

Required (total marks = 100)

Please prepare a formal report to the Board and Senior Management team of SunRice
containing the following five (5) sections:

1. Present a SWOT analysis for SunRice, which outlines the key opportunities and threats it faces, and the
major strengths and weaknesses it possesses.

Your answer should demonstrate an understanding of SunRice external environment (both general and
industry) and internal environment (resources, capabilities and core competencies).
(20 marks)

2. Conduct a stakeholder analysis for four (4) major stakeholders of SunRice (excluding shareholders).

For each major stakeholder:
a) Clearly identify the stakeholder and outline and discuss their specific interests;
b) Assess whether their specific interests are aligned with (or opposed to) the generation of shareholder
value by SunRice; and
c) Recommend a measure that SunRice could use to monitor the generation of stakeholder value.
(20 marks)

3. In the 2014 SunRice Annual Report, their strategic goals and strategic priorities are listed (page 5).
Review these strategic priorities and select the two (2) that you believe SunRice should focus most of its
attention on.

For each strategic priority area selected:
a) Evaluate its suitability and feasibility, in the context of your SWOT analysis in Part 1 (above);
b) Assess its impact on each of the major stakeholders identified in Part 2 (above) and
c) Discuss the shareholder value implications of the strategic priority for the company.
(20 marks)

4. For each strategic priority you selected in Part 3 (above), provide and justify one (1) implementation
proposal to management that will better align stakeholder interests with shareholder value generation by
SunRice. (10 marks)

5. Prepare a Corporate Balanced Scorecard (BSC) for SunRice which reflects the strategic goals and
strategic priorities outlined in the 2014 SunRice Annual report and, as a minimum requirement, includes
the strategic priorities you selected in Part 3 (above). You should include a simple strategy map
demonstrating linkages between the four BSC perspectives. (30 marks)

Submission Details
Please pay careful attention to the following formatting requirements:

Length of this report is maximum 10 pages, excluding executive summary, bibliography, and
appendices. Introduction, conclusion and footnotes are required and should be included in the
page limit. Failure to do so will result in the deduction of marks. Please note that any writing in excess of
the page limit will not be marked.

All case studies must be word-processed and presented in a formal report format. Font size must be
at least 12 (in Times New Roman) with spacing of one-and-a-half lines or greater. Footnotes should
use font size 10 and single line spacing. Margins on all sides must be 2.5cm or greater. Please note that
content which does not adhere to these formatting guidelines and consequently exceeds the 10 page
limit will not be marked.

Tables, charts and diagrams should be used, where possible, to clearly communicate information.
Tables must use a font size of at least 12 (in Times New Roman), but may use one line or greater
spacing. Ensure supporting text is provided to contextualise tabular content. This will improve
presentation and make it easier to stay within the page limit.

An executive summary of no more than 1 page is to be provided (not included in the page
limit). Failure to do so will result in the deduction of marks. Appendices should be used for the
following purposes only: i) list of major assumptions (if any); and ii) list of calculations and formulae (if
any). Content presented in the appendices, which is needed to address the syndicate case project
requirements, will not be marked.

Your assessment should include a bibliography identifying the reference sources you used. A
system of in-text referencing is to be used. In particular, any text or material taken directly from
reference material must be referenced with quotation marks and include the authors name, year of
publication and page numbers in brackets. Failure to do so will result in the deduction of marks.
Footnotes should be reserved for points of clarification only.

A hard copy of the syndicate case project is to be submitted to your seminar leader and a soft copy
emailed to your seminar leader. Last minute printing difficulties will not constitute an adequate excuse
for lateness. Any submissions received after this time will be considered late and subject to the following
penalties, which will be applied to the maximum possible mark for this assessment: One day late - 15%;
Two days late - 30%; Three days late - 45%; Four days late - 60%; Five days late - 75%; Six or more days
late - 100%.

Each syndicate must keep a copy of their work.

Please attach the cover sheet (available on Blackboard) to the front of your syndicate case project. Be
sure to clearly indicate the names and student numbers of each syndicate member. Elaborate binding and
plastic covers are not necessary. However, syndicate case projects that are not stapled or otherwise
bound together may not be accepted.

Please consult your Seminar Leader if you are unsure about any formatting requirements.
