Expect Sophisticated Style, Luxury and Pleasure

At The Lane Vineyard the Edwards family step to the beat of a different drum.
We dare to be different. We can be irreverent. We are always authentic.
Drink our wine knowing we have grown every berry and made every drop at The Lane capturing the beauty of our
vineyard in every glass, neither European nor Australian in style rather the best of both worlds
We give eleven tenths everyday to make your wine experience unique and memorable.

The Lane Vineyard Black Label wines were first created in 1996. From the highest quality parcels of fruit within our
vineyard these wines are determined by their age, purity, depth and spectrum of flavours.
Low yields provide fruit concentration and structure. Each variety is hand picked, handled gently in the winery and
aged in the finest quality French Oak.
Occasion wines, they are complex, structured and fine.
The Lane Vineyard Block Series show true varietal character and the influence of the terroir of The Lane Vineyard.
The block numbers indicate the patch within the vineyard where the fruit is grown, as do the Google Earth
coordinates on each label. Minimum intervention inthe winemaking allows the vineyard to do the talking.
The Block Series are stylish, fresh, fruit driven wines with a true sense of place.

The Edwards family
John Edwards searched for two years for land with the aspect and soils he wanted for his vineyard. When he walked
through the old farmgate on Ravenswood Lane, he realised his dream, the land for growing extreme quality fruit for
distinguished, complex, sought after wines.
From the very first wines produced under the Ravenswood Lane label in 1996 Johns belief in the terroir was
rewarded with exceptional wines.

These exceptional wines and Johns forthright and colourful character led to a
seven-year joint venture with the Hardy Wine Company, where John was vigneron behind the Adelaide Hills brand
Starvedog Lane. He left the joint venture in 2005 to fully realise the potential of his vineyard by producing single
vineyard wines in a new, state-of-the art small batch winery at Ravenswood Lane.

Helen Edwards brought executive management skills honed over 20 years in the health sector to the family
business. She is a Governor at St Peters College, a member of the Executive Committee of the

South Australian Wine Industry Association and a member of the South Australian Wine Industry Council.

Marty Edwards began his career in the Navy as a MineWarfare and Clearance Diving Officer. He successfully
combined his operational commitments and international Special Forces training withviticulture studies at Charles
Sturt University. Marty joined the family business in 2001 to manage the vineyard, UK and EU markets.Marty is a
member of the Adelaide Hills Wine Region Wine
Show Committee and a Hutt Street Centre, Touchwine Ambassador.
Ben Tolstoshev, Helens son from a previous marriage, joined the business in 2006 to manage national and cellar
door sales. Prior to this Ben was Collotype Labels new business development manager to Australian wine industry
customers. Ben's move into the wine industry followed an 11year career in graphic design and art direction including
positions at Dimension 3 Creative & Ratbag Games. Ben is a member of the AHWR Market Development Committee.

Winery
If old sheds could talk the hay shed at The Lane Vineyard would tell quite a story.
It began its days in quiet solitude, the only visitors a handful of cows and the occasional farmer and his dog. Then
from 1993 vines became its constant companion until 2005. Then, an extreme makeover as it became part of a state
of the art small batch winery!

Designed by John Edwards and Wineries By Designs Gerald Asbroek, the winery incorporates the latest technology
and winery equipment available.
Johns extensive research and the careful selection of winemaking equipment reflect his intimate knowledge of every
block of grapes at The Lane Vineyard.

The grapes are hand picked or carefully machine harvested in the cool hours of night and delivered a distance as
little as 10 metres or as far as 300 to the winery door.
No food miles here at The Lane Vineyard!

Winemakers
John Edwards is not a conventional winemaker...
His insight and skills were acquired working alongside brilliant winemakers and eating and drinking the worlds finest
during the Starvedog Lane era. John is passionate about having his own exceptional vineyard and winery. John says
it affords him the opportunity of taking a long-term view.
We are not afraid to take risks and we do whatever is vital to bring the beauty of The Lane Vineyard into every glass
of our wine.
Marty Edwards manages the estates 56 hectares of vineyard with a distinct philosophy of minimal intervention,
respect for organic principles and walking the vineyard every day to capture the nuances of each site and variety to
produce clean, fresh grapes with unique characters and quality.

Michael Schreurs scientific brilliance and disciplined focus on the health and purity of the wines is the perfect foil for
John Edwards unbridled wine making ambitions. Michaels approach to winemaking,
utilising his extensive experience as winemaker at Henschke's and Seppelt's Great Western is non-interventionist
and minimalist, a case of less is more.

Hugh Guthrie brings winemaking and biology qualifications to The Lane Vineyard team. His patience, teamwork,
attention to detail, and experience in McLaren Vale, the USA and the Adelaide Hills are the perfect complement to the
winemaking team.
