Pressure Booster Sizing Calculator What does it do?: This Calculator will generate a set of system parameters based on general information given by the user. In addition, these parameters will be automatically copied to a sample specification at the end of the Excel Workbook. Step #1: To determine System Pressure - Follow the instructions on the calculator, which will request general building details. Based on building Height, the calculator will generate a required system boost pressure, convert it to TDH and automatically enter these results on the specifications at the end of the program. Step #2: To determine total Fixture Unit load - Enter the number of fixtures which are detailed in the chart. The total number will automatically be multiplied by the fixture unit and totaled at the bottom of the chart. This number will be copied to the second sheet labeled Flow. Step #3: To determine GPM based on fixture count. - The previous result should be at the top of the sheet. Select the type of building you are designing across the top, then read down to the row opposite the fixture units as calculated in previous chart. Using the Copy command, select the GPM from a cell on the chart. Using the Paste command, paste the result into the yellow box at the bottom of the load chart. The calculator will recommend various pump percentage splits based on system load. It will make suggestions in the FLOW SPLIT WORKSHEET. You must determine at this point whether you wish to specify a Duplex or Triplex system. Step #4: Enter the Flow rates preferred - In the yellow boxes labeled P-1,P-2 & P-3 enter the flows which you would like based on the results of the Flow Split Worksheet. Step #5: Enter Specifics regarding System Configuration - The next set of questions will deal with the configuration of the system, as they relate to jobsite conditions. Remember... it is important to enter all information requested since this information is being added to your sample specification at the end of the program. Enter the information EXACTLY as instructed (information required is in quotes ie:vertical) do not type the quotation marks, only the information requested. You have a choice regarding the actuation of the lag pump. Insert this choice in item #10d. (the choices are indicated) Step #6: Tank Selection - If the system being designed will have no flow shutdown, you must enter a tank size here. There is a variety of tank sizes in both ASME & Non-Code versions. (if total boost + city pressure combined does not exceed 125# at the tank, you can use a non-code selection) Enter the information exactly as indicated. If no tank is required, enter no tank used or you may choose to delete the section of specification which relates to the tank from the current file. Under the tank selection box, make sure you indicate the number of disconnects you would like in the control panel. Step #7 Specification - You have now designed your system! In the process of this design, two specifications have been automatically written based on your answers to the questions. Simply select the Duplex or Triplex specification and print the selected sheet using the File/Print command. Remember that if you want to save the project information, you must use the SAVE AS command not Save. The program will not allow you to save as the original file name, since this is password protected. If you like, you can delete the tank portion or add to the specification as required. (ie: micro-processor based controllers, flow transducers, etc.) NOTES: When selecting the actual pumps themselves, refer to the Catalog or pump sizing software to choose a close coupled pump, or call Your nearest Armstrong representative.
