Our History
PepsiCo is a world leader in convenient snacks, foods and beverages with revenues of

PepsiCo, Inc. is founded by Donald M. Kendall, President and Chief Executive Officer of Pepsi-Cola and Herman W.
Lay, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Frito-Lay, through the merger of the two companies. Pepsi-Cola was
created in the late 1890s by Caleb Bradham, a New Bern, N.C. pharmacist. Frito-Lay, Inc. was formed by the 1961
merger of the Frito Company, founded by Elmer Doolin in 1932, and the H. W. Lay Company, founded by Herman
W.Lay, also in 1932. Herman Lay is chairman of the Board of Directors of the new company; Donald M. Kendall is
president and chief executive officer. The new company reports sales of $510 million and has 19,000 employees.
PepsiCo, Incorporated is a Fortune 500, American multinational corporation headquartered in
Purchase, New York, with interests in manufacturing and marketing a wide variety of carbonated and
non-carbonated beverages, as well as salty, sweet and cereal-based snacks, and other foods.

IN 1985
PepsiCo is now the largest company in the beverage industry. The company has revenues of more than $7.5 billion,
more than 137,000 employees.
IN 1990
PepsiCo stock splits three-for-one.
PepsiCo acquires a controlling interest in Gamesa, Mexico's largest cookie company.
PepsiCo profits exceed $1 billion for the first time.
IN 1995
Pepsi-Cola introduces "Nothing else is a Pepsi" theme line.
IN 2009
PepsiCo is named to the 'Best Companies for Multi Cultural Women' list by Working Mother magazine

INOVATIONS:

PepsiCo opens China R&D centre in 2006
Pepsi is currently involved in around 40 joint ventures and solely-owned ventures in China - its second
largest market outside the US - with total investment exceeding US$1bn.
In 2006 PepsiCo said that it will invest $850m in China in the next three years.
Its sales in the country grew by more than 25 per cent in 2005

PepsiCo Opens New Haven Research Lab To Develop
Healthier Products 2009
The opening of the new lab in Science Park, adjacent to Yale's campus, is part of a major shift by PepsiCo to
fundamentally improve the nutritional profile of its vast portfolio of foods and beverages. Within the past two years,
the company has added world-renowned clinical scientists and experts in nutrition, food safety, epidemiology and
health policy to its staff.
PepsiCo has opened a R&D centre next to its Frito Lay factory in the northwestern province of Kocaeli,
Turkey.

It is understood that the company selected Turkey to build the centre as the market is seen as of strategic importance
given its young population and its geographical location in between continents.
The R&D centre is expected to serve PepsiCo's markets in Southeastern Europe and employ 15 people.

Major products of the new companies are:
o Pepsi-Cola Company - Pepsi-Cola (formulated in 1898), Diet Pepsi (1964) and Mountain Dew (introduced by Tip
Corporation in 1948).
o Frito-Lay, Inc. - Fritos brand corn chips (created by Elmer Doolin in 1932), Lay's brand potato chips (created by
Herman W. Lay in 1938), Cheetos brand cheese flavored snacks (1948), Ruffles brand potato chips (1958) and Rold
Gold brand pretzels (acquired 1961).
o Mountain Dew launches its first campaign "Yahoo Mountain Dew ... it'll tickle your innards."

Pepsi ONE: An alternative to Diet Pepsi, with one calorie per serving. Still uses the 2003 Pepsi
design as of May 2009.


FUTURE GROWTH

Pepsico India Holdings Pvt Ltd has already applied to the Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIBP) to
pump in an additional Rs 950 crore as equity in its Indian operations.

PepsiCo will be investing around $170 million, while the rest of the investment will be made by its
bottling partners. This is said to be the biggest investment made by Pepsico, in the beverage business in
India, since its entry into the country in 1989. The investment will be utilized across market
infrastructure, supply chain, manufacturing capacity, fruit processing, agriculture and research and
development.

The company is also looking forward to set up new manufacturing facilities in India and even enhance
the existing production capacities, in the future. It has already started looking for location that offers
conducive business environment. The company so far, has invested around $1billion in India so far.

Investments in infrastructure, better market execution and a prolonged summer helped PepsiCo post
over 50 per cent growth in India in the July-September quarter of calendar 2009 as opposed to the
corresponding period last year.

Rival Coca-Cola, too, has invested around $1.25 billion. Despite the slowdown, the software market in
India is doing well. According to industry estimates, software market grew by 20% in 2008 and is
estimated to grow by 25% this year.
