EXERCISE NUMBER THREE
APR 1 7 '62 MAY 1 5 62 JUN 1 2 62
On one ot the dates indicated above at 1 p.m. or at 8
p.m. Pacific Standard Time, we ask you to participate in
thi s personal contact exercise. These parti cul ar instructions
are being sent only to you and other students of your class.
The object of these exercises, which you will receive quite
regularly, I s to establish a closer personal association be
tween you, your sanctum, and the teachers, or class mas
ters, at the Supreme Temple in San J ose. I n addition, it
affords you the opportunity of personally experiencing the
resul ts of the application of those laws and principles
which you have been studyi ng up to thi s point.
I f you have carefully read and understood your lessons
preceding this exercise, and will follow the instructions
set forth here, you will be pleased at the resul ts of thi s
personal, home exercise. These exercises have been i nsti
tuted as a new, additional feature of the studies for your
benefit.
T T T
I t has been explained to you in your lessons that you
have a psychic body, or a psychic self. This psychic self
has a nervous system which is known as the sympathetic
nervous system, and i t corresponds to the nervous system
of your physical body. This sympathetic nervous system
is responsive only to psychic impressions, to vibrations
which are so sensitive as not to be directly impressionable
on your physical, or ordi nary nervous system. Thus, for
an example, certain musical notes the vibrations and fre
quency of which are too high to regi ster on the human ear
and to impress the physical nervous system would affect
the sympathetic nervous system. There is a harmonic rel a
tionship between these two nervous systems. A nything
which reacts upon the sympathetic nervous system sets
up a corresponding vi bratory condition in the physical
nervous system which responds to it. This is the same as
when a true note that is struck on the piano keyboard pro
duces a harmonic note in the scale above, or below it,
like an echo. Psychic impressions cannot be sensed through
the medium of your physical nervous system directly.
These impressions are too sensitive for the receptivity of
the ordi nary nervous system; they must first affect the
nervous system of your psychic self which is attuned to
them, and then they are reduced or transformed so that
you physically may sense them in si ght, feeling, hearing,
or smelling.
Our experiment tonight will be conducted between you
and the members of your class, and the officers of the
Grand L odge here at the Supreme Temple. T his experi
ment is in the nature of the transference of thought which
we hope will set up a sense impression in you. We will
endeavor to project to you psychically the thought of
sugar. How thi s projection of thought is accomplished
will be explained in l ater monographs. What you should
sense In thi s experiment Is the actual taste of sweetness,
of sugar; i t should be as though you had actually, physi
cally partaken of it. This sensation should last for about
one minute. The thought I mpression will be received by
your psychic self, and will bri ng into resonance with it
such sensory nerves of your physical nervous system as
will release in your consciousness the memory of the taste
of sugar. Y ou will, therefore, again seat yourself com
fortably, be certain that you will not be disturbed, and
please do not try to hold the thought of sugaror taste of
any kindin your mind, as that will prevent you from be
coming passive, and receptive to the psychic impressions.
Do not si t rigidly, but entirely relaxed. Try thi s experi
ment for ten minutes. The object is merely to demonstrate
this law to you. K indly let us know of your results.

REFERENCE
TO MONOGRAPHS
FOR EXPLANATION OF
PRINCIPLES USED IN
THIS EXERCISE
------ -------
Below you will find, for your convenience, the number
of certain monographs and thei r pages, where you will find
explained the principles which you are using in thi s exer
cise. Y ou already have these monographs; refer to them in
order to acquaint yourself with tne laws which you are
putti ng into effect in thi s exercise.
We have arranged thi s sheet so that you may file it
away in a loose-leaf binder for further reference. Y ou will
undoubtedly want to repeat thi s experiment at some future
time. Y ou may do so exactly four weeks from the date of
thi s exercise. I n addition to sending your report of your
experiment to the Grand L odge, briefly make your own
comments where specified on the bottom of thi s sheet.
