bal l s whi ch wer e suspended by wi r es 45 cm. apar t . The bal l s wer e
gi ven opposi t e el ect r i cal char ges and t he char ges wer e
mai nt ai ned. Sensi t i ve opt i cal met hods wer e empl oyed i n measur i ng
t he movement s, and as near as coul d be obser ved t he bal l s
appear ed t o behave accor di ng t o t he f ol l owi ng l aw: " Any syst emof
