The spirit of lies and its instruments....
The spirit of lies rules the world, and anone who desires the world
and its goods is ensla!ed " this spirit of lies. For onl there #an he
assert himself, onl there will homage "e paid to him " "eing
listened to and affirmed.
$n #ontrast, the spirit of truth will onl find admission among people
who tr to deta#h themsel!es from the world and its goods, who
ha!e no desire for them whatsoe!er "ut turn themsel!es and their
thoughts towards di!ine things, who #onsider their a#tual purpose
and affirm a spiritual life. That is where the ling spirit is denied
a##ess. For God %imself will grant his prote#tion to these people,
and %e wrests them from the one who "rings lies into the world.
&eople who hold on to the world there" profess their affiliation to
the one to whom the world is his power, for the desire that whi#h
is still his share.... unredeemed matter.... whi#h still shelters mu#h
of the e!il spirit within itself. 'nd sin#e he wants to win the world
entirel for himself he uses e!er opportunit to in#rease people(s
greed for matter, hen#e he presents himself in a desira"le wa....
%e uses lies to do so, for the truth would enlighten people and
ma)e them lose the longing for earthl possessions. 'nd thus he
aims to intersperse e!er truth with error, he tries to lead people
into erroneous thin)ing,
he see)s to o"s#ure their spirit, that is, to entangle it in earthl
passions and #ra!ings, so that the spirit within themsel!es is
surrounded " the most dense laers and una"le to offer the soul
the slightest #larifi#ation.
'nd he aims to pull down e!erthing di!ine, stifle e!erthing no"le,
o"s#ure the truth, eradi#ate lo!e, spread hatred and strife and
graduall shape people su#h that the "e#ome li)e him* that the
will adopt all those +ualities whi#h #hara#terise e!il.
The lo!e for truth dwells onl in !er few people, and the despise
the world. %owe!er, their goal is God, Who is the Truth, and the
see) to o"tain spiritual !alues whi#h last for eternit. 'nd thus the
lift themsel!es a"o!e the world and the prin#e of lies has no more
influen#e on them.
'nd et he wants to oppress them and to this end uses those who,
on the surfa#e, also stri!e for the truth, that is, who appear to loo)
for truth "ut inwardl are de!oted to the pri#e of lies.... who lo!e
themsel!es and their life and tr to ma)e it as #omforta"le as
possi"le, who li!e in the midst of the world and et tr to den their
#onne#tion with it.... who, without the inner urge to renoun#e the
world, pretend to li!e a life of self,denial "efore the ees of their
fellow human "eings and thus are fond of lies.
These are used " the opponent as his instruments, " letting them
spea) under the #o!er of truth, as the prin#e of lies wants. 'nd
thus lies are mi-ed with truth, and humanit a##epts e!erthing
that is presented as truth and et is the greatest untruth, for it
#annot re#ognise it "e#ause it doesn(t desire the truth, and sin#e
the lie #orresponds to their desire more it is a##epted without
hesitation.
.et the spirit of truth will esta"lish itself as soon as people willingl
separate themsel!es from matter.... as soon as the desire spiritual
wealth and stri!e towards God.... 'nd he will defeat the spirit of
lies, for anone who re#ognises the truth will stand up for it and tr
to spread it, and the lie will "e displa#ed and with it the one who
#ame into the world through the lie will "e o!er#ome....
