Locomotive(s) Affected:
CSX Transportation (CSXT 725 774)

Purpose:

The purpose of this Service Advisory is to inform and instruct CSX personnel to perform a precautionary
inspection of these units for the incorrect model of Dead-In-Tow (DIT) assembly. This inspection is to
ensure proper operation of the air brake system to customer specifications.

Action Required:

Please inspect each of the units specified for the correct DIT assembly. The correct model of DIT
assembly should look like the one displayed in Figure 2 and will be labeled with New York Air Brake part
number 773851 located on the top side of the portion.

If the improper part is found, please contact your local Field Representative for a warranty replacement.

Background:

During a routine inspection on an Alaska Railroad unit, it was found that the DIT assembly was not the
same model as on other units in their fleet. This part (NYAB 773851) was determined to be a Type II DIT
assembly that is used on CSX Transportation units and had not been changed since the unit originally went
into service. Due to this, the Type I DIT assembly meant for the Alaska Railroad unit cannot be accounted
for and is the cause for this inspection. These units were being built at the same time as the Alaska
Railroad unit and may have been incorrectly applied to a CSX Transportation unit.
