1lease run this test "efore class "egins so that pro"lems can "e detected and
corrected "efore students arri(e. This test must "e run at each location where a
student will "e working! including separate classrooms and remote locations.

1. -pen 7our "rowser.
'. ,nter https#++ela"gatewa7.edu.ihost.com in the $ddress field and press
,nter.
.. Dou should see a logon screen.

4. ,nter the userid ;ela"< and the password ;passw0rd< Gwith a 3eroH.

A. Click the T,T D-U) C-88,CTI-8 icon.

C. $ Citri* window appears# ;Citri* )ecei(er connecting<.

7. In a moment! a countdown timer appears.



F. If the message sta7s running for appro*imatel7 A minutes! click the ok
"utton to close the message. Dou ha(e successfull7 completed the regular
connecti(it7 test and 7ou do not need to do an7 further testing.

/. If the window disappears! 7ou ma7 ha(e a firewall timeout on 7our network.
)un the test again and if it disappears after "eing connected for the same
amount of time as "efore! there is a timeout set on 7our firewall. Dou will
need to contact 7our network administrator to ena"le longer connectionsL
otherwise students will "e regularl7 disconnected.
10. If 7ou recei(e an7 errors! see 8etwork configuration or Trou"leshooting.

-nce the test is successful! 7ou can connect to 7our la" en(ironment.
If 7ou are still connected to https#++ela"gatewa7.edu.ihost.com with the ela" user
id! 7ou ha(e to logoff first# click on ;:og -ff< link.

;Testing 7our configuration< "elow and then ;Collecting 7our location>s firewall
configuration<.

If 7our location is using application le(el pro*ies! 7ou will need to contact 7our
location>s network administrator to permit the Citri* )ecei(er to connect to
ela"gatewa7.edu.ihost.com.

1ersonal firewalls Gsuch as Mone :a"s Integrit7 &esktop and 8orton 1ersonal
BirewallH can permit or "lock traffic "ased on the application and+or port. Make
sure than an7 personal firewall is configured to permit the Citri* )ecei(er
GN1rogramBilesNOCitri*Oicawe".'Owfica.'.e*e for the we" client and
N1rogramBilesNOCitri*OIC$ ClientOwfica.'.e*e for the full packageH access to
the internet using port 44. GhttpsH.
2$4$4$ >!/ Citrix 2!rks
2hen 7ou click on an icon in the ):1 Citri* application page! Internet ,*plorer
downloads a small configuration file Gthe IC$ fileH. 2indows loads Citri* )ecei(er
with that file and then tries to connect to the application specified in the IC$ file
on ela"gatewa7.edu.ihost.com (ia IC$+: Gport 44.H using the network
configuration read from "oth 7our "rowser and the IC$ file. The Citri* ser(er
ela"gatewa7.edu.ihost.com starts the application on one of the machines in the
cluster Gthe hostH and then acts as an encr7pted -CI pro*7 "etween the
Citri* )ecei(er Gor the pro*7 ser(er for 7our location>s networkH and the host.
2$4$4$ C!))e*tin' =!ur L!*ati!n?s :ire/a)) C!n0i'urati!n
Before contacting the Eelp &esk! we recommend collecting 7our location>s
firewall configuration in order to ha(e the information read7 when the Techs ask
how 7our network is configured.
1. -n a computer with a working Internet connection! open up Internet
,*plorer.
'. elect T!!)s on the menu "ar and then select Internet ;pti!ns@ in the
menu.

4. Click the L,3 Settin's@ "utton.
A. If onl7 ;$utomaticall7 detect< settings is checked! 7ou are using 2e"
1ro*7 $uto &isco(er7 G21$&H. 21$& is not a compati"le configuration.
Contact 7our location>s network administrator a"out alternati(e
configurations.
C. If the Use configuration script check "o* is checked! 7ou are using a
1ro*7 $utomatic Configuration G1$CH script. 8ote the entr7 in the
$ddress "o*. If the address is a local file Git "egins with file#++H! e:a"s will
not work. Contact 7our location>s network administrator a"out using a
ser(er "ased 1$C script Gone that "egins with an http#++ address.H or a
different configuration.
7. If the 7se a pr!xy ser-er for 7our :$8 check "o* is checked! 7ou are
using one of a (ariet7 of pro*7 configurations#
i. If the ,ddress and P!rt fields are filled in! 7ou are using a single
pro*7. 8ote the contents of those two fields.
ii. If those fields are not checked! click the ,d-an*ed@ "utton.
iii. If onl7 the S!*ks field and P!rt is filled in! 7ou are using a -CI
pro*7ing. 8ote the contents of those two fields.
i(. If se(eral of the fields are filled in! 7ou are using multiple pro*ies.
8ote what is in each field and the associated port.
F. If nothing is checked! 7ou are using Transparent 1ro*7ing.

2$4$A$ Basi* C!nne*ti-ity Test
Bor locations using destination or traffic pro*ies! 7ou can test the "asic
connecti(it7 of 7our network using telnet should the regular connecti(it7 test
fail. GThis test ma7 not work for sites using application le(el pro*ies.H If 7ou
ha(e pro"lems with connecting to ):1 Citri* ser(er! 7ou should run this test.
1. -pen a command prompt.
'. ,nter te)net e)a.'ate/ay$edu$i(!st$*!m 444 and press ,nter.

.. The message C!nne*tin' T! e)a.'ate/ay$edu$i(!st$*!m$$$ should
flash on the screen and then the screen should go "lank. If 7ou press
a ke7! 7ou will "e returned to the command prompt.
4. T7pe exit and press ,nter to close the command prompt.

This error indicates that the Citri* )ecei(er cannot connect to
ela"gatewa7.edu.ihost.com. There are two reasons wh7 7ou will recei(e this
error message. The first is that Citri* )ecei(er cannot resol(e the full
=ualified domain name GBP&8H. Verif7 that the computer has the right
network configuration for 7our location. If that does not fi* the pro"lem! then
open the hosts file GNwindirNOhosts for 2indows /F Q Me and
NwindirNOs7stem.'Odri(ersOetcOhosts for 2indows 8T 4.0! '000! %1! Q
'00.H in 8otepad and add the following line to the end of the file#
1'/..A.1C1.40 ela"gatewa7.edu.ihost.com
8ote that the line should contain the I1 address! followed "7 an7 amount of
white space Gta"s or spacesH! and then the BP&8. a(e the file and tr7 to
connect to the application again.
The second reason is that Citri* )ecei(er detected the network configuration
incorrectl7 and the Citri* )ecei(er is tr7ing to use ela"gatewa7.edu.ihost.com
as the pro*7 for 7our network. Contact the Eelp &esk for information on
o(erriding the Citri* )ecei(er>s pro*7 configuration. 1lease collect 7our
location>s firewall configuration "efore calling.
