Your school is looking for opportunities to work with organizations in the country so that it could provide students

with more varied learning experiences that will enhance the students leadership skills and engagement with
community work.
As the President of the Student Council in your school, you would like to use this opportunity to recommend that
your school work closely with the National Youth Council (NYC).
Write a letter to your Principal. You should:
Explain the reasons why your school should consider working closely with NYC
Suggest two programmes that would meet your schools needs and state in what way/s they do so
Share the views and experiences of students who have participated in the suggested programmes and
how these programmes have changed them.
Write your letter in clear, accurate English and in a persuasive tone, to convince your Principal about how the
partnership with NYC can help the school achieve its goals.
You should use your own words as much as possible.
At NYC, we believe in a world where young people are respected and heard, and have the ability to influence and
make a difference to the world. Together with our partners, we develop a dynamic and engaging environment
where young people are inspired to dream and committed to action.
NYC organizes engagement platforms for youth.

Dear Mrs Tan,

Recommendation for Programmes at National Youth Council

I am writing in regards to the Schools search for opportunities to collaborate with establishments in the country in
view of diversifying the educational journey of students that will hone and boost the students ability to lead and
their involvement in community work. With the schools interests in utmost priority, my Student Council and I have
after extensive research discovered and decided on the National Youth Council to fit the Schools profile. We
strongly recommend the School to collaborate with the National Youth Council in its goal.

The National Youth Councils belief in a global society where youth are appreciated, whose opinions are valued and
possess the capacity to impact and change the world constitute the rationale as to why we recommend the
Council. Additionally, the National Youth Council creates an interactive and involving atmosphere where youth are
motivated to have aspirations and are compelled and determined to perform. We feel strongly that the
programmes offered by the National Youth Council align closely with those of the school for the Councils
appreciation and valuing of students opinions and shaping them to be able to impact and change the world will
undoubtedly build the spirit of leadership in the students while the atmosphere which motivates students to
perform will increase their involvement in community work through community service. Out of the four
programmes offered, we have selected two that would best fit the profile and needs of the School.

The first programme we have selected to fit the profile and needs of the School is the Young ChangeMakers. By
providing the capital and some aid (Young ChangeMakers Grant), the Young ChangeMakers programme allows the
Students to concretize their ideas and bring about an impact on the community. The Student Council deduces that
this programme would provide an apt platform for the Students to be involved in community work and cultivate
their leadership skills as they would be in charge of their project in all aspects and their project will be inclined to
benefit the community out of altruistic intent. Their cultivated leadership skills and altruism will be life-long and
they will also gain experience in project development skills and thus create projects in the future that would be
very advantageous to societys and communitys interests. Additionally, the Schools name will be further
flourished and positively publicized and the School will gain recognition and draw more enrolments should
Students developed projects be successful, innovative and beneficial to the community at a large scale. As such,
we strongly feel that this programme would meet the needs of the School in creating a vibrant learning avenue for
the Students.

Another programme that would fit the profile of the School is the Youth Expedition Project. The Youth Expedition
Project provides a platform for the Students to indulge in community work in the form of volunteerism. On top of
the Students capacity and confidence being flourished, they get to train their independence as they set off on
community Service-Learning projects both in Singapore and overseas. Thus, they would have to look after
themselves and take responsibility for their actions. They would also gain a chance to interact with people of
different nationalities, improving their socialization and interaction skills. The Students level of confidence will
undeniably increase as they interact with people who are completely foreign to them. This programme ties in with
the Schools needs as it allows the Students to be involved in community work through volunteerism overseas and
as such, makes volunteerism fun and adventurous. By instilling in them the spirit of volunteerism as being
adventurous and enjoyable, it will ensure that this spirit is life long and that they will continue to embrace it and
participate in community work altruistically in the future, bringing about a positive impact on society. Thus, we
strongly feel that this is another programme that would meet the needs of the school in igniting in Students the
life-long passion for community involvement.

The Student Council has sourced for testimonials from students who have participated in the aforementioned
programmes and the experiences they shared with us were heartening and vibrant. Johnathan, a student who has
enrolled for the National Youth Council Young ChangeMakers programme shared this, the programme allowed
me to realize my potential as I discovered that I was actually able to lead a project on my own. Previously, I had a
low self-esteem and thought my ideas were unviable and redundant. However, after receiving the adequate
starting money for my project from the Young ChangeMakers Grant, I felt empowered to improve my idea and
ultimately brought it to life. My team and I faced many hardships while working on the project but we persevered
and in the end, succeeded. The community in our estate has benefited immensely from our project while my team
and I have gained in leadership ability and we now enjoy helping the community more than ever. Another
student, Alexander, who has enrolled for the National Youth Council Young Expedition Project said this, initially, I
was afraid of visiting other countries and interacting with people of different nationalities and thus was skeptical
about this programme. However, my friends encouraged me to opt in with them and so I did. Surprisingly, it
turned out that I was actually comfortable with talking with and offering assistance to the elderly citizens of
Vietnam. Ultimately, this programme has helped me become a more confident and independent person as I had to
take care of myself during the trip. The experience I had was extremely memorable and fruitful. If I had a chance in
the future, I would definitely participate in community service again. Evidently, the two programmes have had a
significant impact on both Johnathans and Alexanders lives.

Through intricate analysis of the programmes and processing of input from the Students above, the Student
Council decided on the two programmes and the recommendation of the National Youth Council.

Last but not least, I would like to thank you for reading our suggestions. We look forward to the Schools decision
in the organization it would like to cooperate with to meet its goals of honing the leadership ability of Students and
their involvement with community service. The Student Council hopes that the School would take our
recommendation of the National Youth Council into consideration, but nonetheless, we will respect the final
decision of the School.

Yours sincerely,
