Prologue
Its said, that a long time ago, when the great cities climbed high into the sky
and the golden age of machinery served the people, there arose a great evil.
How this came to be, no one can say. The name given to it by our people
was Mechanicus. Moving across the land without mercy or feeling it sought to
consume our resources and enslave our people.
Tasked by the Golden Emperor, the Grand Architect set about designing a grand
regiment of automatons. No more than twenty would be built, one for each of
the pure blood lines of the noble houses. Each automaton and noble was
bound together as one, each knowing the others mind and action. Together,
they were unstoppable; apart, they were incomplete.
Outside the Imperial City of the Sun, their soldiers rained down hot molten light
on our army as they charged into battle. Our weapons thundered into the
enemy as they swooped down from the sky, plucking the pure bloods from their
automatons.
When all seemed lost, it was Lady Antonella, the daughter of House Antonius
and her automaton that took the fight into the colossal floating ziggurat.
Together they fought their way to the leader, wounding it and forcing the iron
skins to retreat back to the darkness they came from - but at a cost.
All the pure bloods and automatons but one had been destroyed. Lying on
her death bed, Antonella feared for her only heir, her baby Sofia; the rest of her
family had perished in the siege of the City of the Sun.
Antonella ordered her automaton to take the child away and watch over
her. The great war-machine leant over the crib, gently lifting the baby in its
arms; the bond between Antonella and the automaton faded.
Now the automaton would have a new purpose; he turned one last time
to the lifeless body of his old mistress...
...and disappeared into the night with the baby girl.

Synopsis
Sixteen years have passed since the fall of Mechanicus and the cities are now
only memories of the past. Most of the people now live in small villages, spread
across the lands of the once prosperous Golden Empire.
The great machines that farmers used to harvest their crops are now replaced
with beasts of burden. Huge fans harness the elements to power the villages;
people live as one with the earth. A young girl raised by an old farmer and
his wife, watched over by her guardian, has known nothing of loss or tragedy;
this is Sofia and her friend Robot.
But their world is about to be ripped apart when raiders in a distant land awaken
a ziggurat half buried in the mountains during an excavation: the Ziggurat of
Mechanicus. Machines thought to be dormant awaken, breaking the earthly
bonds that have taken over their bodies; rusted joints for the first time in years
creak and groan under their movement.
Sofia and Robot are playing the games of children when she notices a plume of
smoke on the horizon. Jumping on the back of Robot the two rush back to see
soldiers of Mechanicus take off into the sky leaving her village in flames, and her
parents dead. Sofias anger rises within her, forcing the final stage of bonding
between them, as Robot becomes that which he was designed to be: a war
machine. Every movement she makes, he copies.
From out of the wrecked village, survivors appear
explaining how the metal skins came from the sky,
consuming the power from the energy tanks, taking
prisoners and leaving as quickly as they came.
After burying her family Sofia vows to avenge them
and rescue those that have been taken.
Their quest will take them on a journey through distant
lands and lead them into the heart of evil.

Empire of the Sun

History Overview

Civilizations have come and gone throughout the

Soliss history. However, the Empire of the Sun and its
city has stayed the course. Its history goes as far back
as the first founding Emperor, Lord Heotoe the 1st,
nine hundred years ago to the latest Emperor, Keto
Moneschalchi.
Culturally the Empire of the Sun follows an Imperial
based government. The Emperor has absolute rule
assisted by Council members and nobles.

Emperor of the Sun

Emperor Keto Monesclalchi is the last of the Imperial

blood line, now in his late sixties he has been the leader
of his people since he was a small child.
A great leader of people, Keto has managed to
keep the Empire of the Sun together, where all
other kingdoms would have fallen apart under the
devastation created by the war with the Mechanicus.

At its height, the Empire of the Sun had open trade

routes with many of the planets countries, with its
Empire spread out into the known world.

The Emperor is seen as the direct line to the God king,

Apolassum. Legend says that, Apolassum himself
gave a Golden Staff of Light to the first Emperor,
Heotoe and told him; wherever he placed the staff a
great city would be born.

After the Great War, the Empire suffered immensely

and never fully recovered from the destruction caused
by the Mechanicus.

This Staff has been passed from generation to

generation; a symbol of the Empire, a symbol of the
God Kings favored people.

As powerful as it once was, its armies are now reduced

and its influence only extends as far as its borders. A
small military force is based within the City of the Sun
at all times, protecting the Imperial family and keeping
order.

The power of the Emperor gives him the authority over

the civil government, including the power to preside
over and to control the Council and authority over the
Empires army. He also has the power to declare war, to
ratify treaties, and to negotiate with foreign leaders.

Other remaining forces are committed to the Empires

borders or are made of militia units within villages,
hamlets and other urban areas.

City of the Sun

Overview

The City of the Sun or Civitas Solis before the Great

War was the centre for trade and commerce.
The City of the Sun was the largest megalopolis of its
time, with a population that may well have exceeded
one million, with a high end estimate of 2.5 million.
The city is dissected in two by a river that flows for
220 miles from its source in the mountains before
finally emptying into the sea of the Golden Channel.
Originally the Empire of the Suns imperial fleet were
stationed here.

Sewer systems and fresh water piping were built to

bring water to the urban centres and wine and oil were
imported from as far as the eastern fringes.

Solisian Clothing and Dress

In the City of the Sun cloth and dress distinguished

the classes of its inhabitants. The style of clothing was
a mixture of Roman and Mayan, clothing worn by
common people was generally made from coarse and
darker materials.

The city is separated by a four grand walls dividing the

city into four sections.

A magistrate would often be seen wearing a long

blood red tunic; a Council member would often dress
in white robes. The Nobles dressed in colourful and
expensive fine silks and Military tunics were shorter than
the ones worn by civilians to allow for greater mobility
in combat.

Trade

Religion

The rivers estuary is half a mile wide. The effect of seas

tides flowing into this estuary during high tides creates a
wall of water that can travel upstream for over 25 miles.

The large urban population required an endless supply

of food which was a complex logistical task, including
acquiring, transporting, storing and distribution of these
supplies within the city and other urban areas.
Farms supplied vegetables and fruits, but fish and meat
were considered luxury items, only available to the
richest of families.

Although the world celebrates many religions and

Gods, the City of the Sun owes its existence to the
father of all gods Apolassum, the Sun god.
Apolassum brings life-giving heat and light to Solis,
and is considered by the general population to be the
highest of deities.

The Four Great Walls

Made up of four distinct sectors, the city was separated
by four grand walls, each given a name that
according to prophecy dictate the final days and fall
of the Empire.
Each wall consisted of gates that lead into the next
sector. Either side of each gate there are two large
towers designed to aid defence of these portals.
At regular intervals on each of the walls additional
towers help defend each fortification. These towers
extended outwards slightly, to allow observation of
each side. For the most part, the top of the walls are
only accessible from the gate house and towers,
with the outside of the walls having tall parapets with
embrasures to fire from during a siege.

1st Wall - Lapsus (Fall)

The first wall was built during the founding of the

city, over the centuries further walls and tiers have
been added as the city has grown. It houses the
many labourers, and pilgrims that visit the cities many
temples.
Since the Great War, the city has been in a state of
repair, reduced in size and splendour, most of the city
remains in ruin.

Historical estimates indicate that 30% of population

under the jurisdiction of the Empire of the Sun once
lived within the common sector. Hamlets and villages
throughout the land are now preferred by Solisians.

2nd Wall - Perditio (Loss)

Life in the City of the Sun revolved around the central

business district. This area allowed Solisians access to
markets, shopping areas, trading posts and banks.
Trade was critical to the survival of the Empire. The city
of the sun had to import large amounts of food from all
over. Transporting goods such as spices and jewels on
land was expensive and often dangerous.
Most of the commerce and trade into and out of
the city is conducted via shipping through the grand
estuary.

3rd Wall - Recolligo (Gather)

The Municipal sector contained the Courts of Law,

Education and City Barracks. Going to a public bath at
least once daily was a habit for most citizens.
Different types of outdoor and indoor entertainment,
were freely available in this sector.

4th wall - Finis (Final)

Home to the Imperial Family and the remaining nobles

houses. The Imperial Palace dominates the sky line,
looking down over the other sectors of the city.
Also, within the Imperial district the ambassadors
quarters are found. Here ambassadors from around the
known world of Solis negotiate trade and alliances with
ambassadors from the City of the Sun.

Noble Families, Technology and Currency

Noble Families

Before the Great War there was a total of twenty Noble

families. However, after the Great War only eleven
remain.
The rest of the higher classes are made up of the
trading families that have been given titles by Emperor
Keto Moneschalchi.
Solisian Noble families have always sought to expand
their power and wealth by marriage, divorce,
adoption, and re-marriage. Solisians needed large
families obligated to support their political ambitions.
Fertile wives were divorced and remarried to form
alliances for political expedience -- sometimes while
pregnant.
Some of the remaining noble families are able to trace
their lineage back to the first founding of the city. These
families include:
House Aliiandra

House Hasan

House Bithil

House Jenin

House Bruche

House Olivius

House Cheman

House Greer

House Chesire

House Waatord

Technology

Since the renouncement of technology, many of the

advancements have been left by the way side, in
favour of more traditional methods such as huge sails
gathering power from the wind and using it to supply
homes and towns with electricity.
The land once ploughed by machines, are now toiled
by beasts of burden.
In the new era, most technology is very basic; some
medical facilities using soul stones to heal the sick, while
computers still exist most have been replaced by vast
libraries.
No longer do you see huge floating buses travelling
in the sky with their engines burning brightly as they
scream across the heavens or the great land trains
steaming across the country side, taking passengers
from town to town.

Currency

There is still an Imperial monetary system favored by

the rich, however, most villagers now deal by bartering
goods or their skills whenever they can.

The Great War

It was at the City of the Sun where the Mechanicus
were halted. On the fifth day of the siege, the last
of the four grand walls, (Final) crumbled as the
devastating siege machines smashed their way
through the ancient citys Imperial Palace grounds.
Fleeing for their lives, a mismatch of civilians, Militia and
Palace guard ran for cover. The enemy war machines,
broke the wall as they ripped huge chunks of it away.
Crashing through like a wave of sickly metal the Warrior
Cast flooded around the giant war machines legs. Their
energy weapons cut down the defenders as they ran.
Tendrils thundered down from the sky, plucked
people from the ground screaming. The soldiers fired
in volleys to no effect, just to be sliced down by their
overpowering horde. Black smoke filled the air, choking
those that looked for cover.
Gathering in the Imperial Palace compound for a final
assault, those that could fight where issued weapons
The old, wounded, women and children were herded
into the underground sewers and tunnels to await their
fate at the hands of the mechanical horde.
In the air above the gathering Mechanicus vultures
swooped down wrenching soldiers from the
battlements, destroying gun emplacements as flack
exploded all around them.

10

When all seemed lost, the twenty nobles, The Knights of

Solis, climbed onto their automatons. Since the siege
the Architects had been blessing their war machines
with ancient rites to protect them in battle, making final
checks that would ensure their success and survival.
At last the war would turn in the favour of the Empire
of the Sun. Like sleeping giants the Robot automations
awoke as the riders took to the saddles, and the
Knights of Solis led the remaining soldiers into the fray.
Suddenly the doors of the Palace compound
exploded, debris rained down on the mechanical
horde as the Empires mighty Robots thundered into
their ranks, flashes of energy cutting down cold metal,
ripping the Warrior Cast apart.

The Great War Continued...

Like a dance of flesh and steel, the Knights moved with
elegant precision, parting the sea of metal as they took
the fight to the machines floating city.
All around Lady Antonella, her fellow Knights began
to fall, riders plucked from their steeds, their robots
smashed, limbs ripped from their ornate bodies.
Smashing their way into the corridors of the vast
floating city, the Knights fought their way towards the
central chamber of the Dominus. With their numbers
dwindled, they fought on, their weapons thundering
into the Mechanicus Elite Guard, but still more came.
Pushing onwards only two Knights remained as they
reached the Grand Chamber, behind them the horde
surrounded them.

The two Knights looked at each other one last time,

knowing exactly what needed to be done. Leaving
Lady Antonella, the Knight turned and threw himself
and his Robot into the hordes, allowing Antonella to
push onwards into the Grand Chamber which housed
the colossal form of the Dominus.
In the silent chamber the vast form of the Dominus
slowly revealed its self. Lowering down and breaking
lose from the wires and pipes that kept it connected to
the floating city and his vast army.
Outside the enemy legions suddenly stopped as if
frozen, the city defenders, looked on as the huge
monsterous metal statues stared back at them.
Inside the Grand Chamber a titanic battle ensued as
the last remaining Knight of Solis and her Robot fought
the giant. Sacrificing herself.
Lady Antonella, summoned up her last remaining
strength and selflessly threw herself into the Dominus,
mortally wounding the leader of the Mechanicus.
Robot grabbed her unconscious body and escaped.
As quickly as the machine horde had appeared,
they vanished, leaving behind their lifeless army, like
thousands of metal statues in the great city.

The Architects and Mechno-Magic

The Architects

Since the Great War, the Architects have been seen as

heretics by many. Responsible for much that has failed
the people of the Sun, their ways of Mechno-magic
was deemed unfit in the eyes of the Empire.
Rumour soon started to spread throughout the city and
across the land, mostly down to those that had seen
the Architects as being far too powerful. With rising
tention the Emperor was forced to pass a new law
backed by the remaining members of the council that
technology should be outlawed.
Those that had taken the path of Mechno-magic were
forced to either renounce it or suffer under the rule of
law, the Architects School of Enchantment shut down
and those practitioners that refused to renounce the
art were hunted down like common criminals.
The people of the Sun were up in arms, pushed on by
those that feared the Mechno-magic powers of the
Architects; the streets began to run with blood once
more as the rabble smashed down doors, dragging
known Architects out of their homes. It was a night that
forever changed and scared the people of the Suns
history and was named the Night of Flames.

14

This was a truly dark time for those who had once
helped and advanced the Empire. The ones who had
devoted thier lives to creating machines capable of
travelling vast distances, machines to help toil the land

and to build weapons that pushed the Empires armies

into new lands, were hunted down and killed.
Those that still lived vanished forever, keeping their
powers hidden from those that sought their end. They
travelled vast distances to forgotten places, others took
on new identities and mixed in with the crowds in the
outer reaches, and some vanished off the face of the
planet all together.
Call them what you will, magicians, sorcerers, wizards,
warlocks, they have now become myths and folktales
to most normal people.

Mechno-magic

Mechno-magic is an off shoot of the original

progenitors of the world of Solis, the first founding race,
before they gave themselves fully to their new machine
bodies and became the Mechanicus.
By using technology and infusing it with a spirit-soul
through the use of binding spells, the user can create
anything he or she so desires. For example, most of
the weapons before the Great War where built by
the Architects, these weapons were built from metals,
crystals and wood. By manipulating the very molecules
structures within the raw components the user was
capable of creating devastating projectile weaponry.

The Grand Architect

With his way of life threatened, the Grand Architect
vanished over night, never to be seen again, fading
into legend.
For sixteen years the Grand Architect has been living
deep within the jungles in the south in an ancient
temple believed to be born from a dying race, and
maybe linked to that of the Mechanicus.
No one is sure how old he is, or where he came
from. For years his frail old body has been kept
alive by an ancient suit, a mobile life support
system.
This suit followed the ancient tradition, in which the
old Architects used to keep themselves from dying.
These suits were constructed using Mechno-magic, by
manipulating minerals and matter and fusing it with
their own physical form. Once fused these suits served
to augment their severely diminished physical strength
and allowed relatively free movement without having
to use a wheelchair.
The Grand Architect has learnt to live in isolation,
finding ways to cope with his situation within the
confines of the lost temple.
He has been watching the world grow without
his kind, waiting for the mechanical horde to rise
again, waiting for the one to find him that will
finally put an end to the destructive cycle of the
Mechanicus.

Girl
Sofia is the last remaining heir to House Antonius, daughter of the fallen heroin, Lady
Antonella. She is completely unaware of her importance and the role that her Robot
guardian has played in the past, and the role that the two will play in the future war
to come.
Since an early age, Sofia has known only happiness, the joy of a peaceful life in the
western reaches. Sofia and Robot have been accepted as one of the family by
their adopted parents in the village Spero (Hope) which rests on the great plains
leading to the distant mountains in the north.
The two have built a bond like no other, like a giant puppy Robot bounds playfully
along, as they both play the games of children. The two also help build the villages
wind generators, and Robot helps the villagers plough the land.

Robot
Sofias guardian is the last of the robot automatons built
by the Grand Architect during the Great War.
This once powerful war machine belonged to the
order of the Knights of Solis. Created by order of
Emperor Keto Moneschalchi, the Grand Architect
and his apprentices built these using their mastery of
Techno-magic.
This process was called Spiritus Vinculum or spirit bond,
which creates a symbioses effect where both the rider
and the machine became one. The Robots could
recreate the exact motion of their rider. By order
of decree it was decided that the twenty noble
houses would give their first born child in order to be
bonded with the automatons. They would be given
the highest rank within the Empires army, Knights of
Solis, defenders of the Sun, Warriors of the Empire.
When in combat mode these Robot automatons
became formidable war machines, able to adapt to
their surroundings by changing certain parts of its form
to overcome any situation.
Without the rider the machine would simply become
static, reverting back to an automaton. This bond
lasted until destruction of either, but the riders genetic
sequence was fused to the automatons making it
possible for a hereditary heir to take control of the
machine.

After the death of Lady Antonella, Robot left the city

with her only child as instructed, wiping all memory of
his past. His new role was that of protecting Sofia.
Once the two become aware of the bond between
them, Robot will become her fists, anger and
destructive will. Her vehicle for vengeance.

History of the Mechanicus

No one is actually sure how these evil machines came
to be or how they were created, some say that they
were the fusing of ancient technology long forgotten
and left dormant for thousands of years.

For thousands of years this hidden race kept to

themselves deep within the chasms in the east,
whatever organic qualities remained, would soon be
lost within the confines of their metal bodies.

In truth these machines are the founders of planet

Solis and a long since forgotten race, whose diseased
bodies could no longer sustain their souls.

With their power supplies dwindling, faced with yet

another disaster, they rose from their hidden world and
went to war in search of new energy sources.

Faced with the extinction of their race, their greatest

minds found a way to transfer their memories into of
machines that would serve them for many centuries to
come.

Rising from the deep, the huge city lifted into the air,
its great engines struggling under its weight as it lifted
higher and higher. The ziggurat shaped city, shrouded
in a dark cloud went on its path of destruction with its
vast tentacles moving with eerie in-human gestures.

By using a network of crystals placed into the

mechanical bodies and Mechno-magic their scientists
were able to transfer a mind into that of a machine.
The preliminary test had proven to be a great success
and the leaders gave the go ahead for the rest of the
populace to be converted.
As the transformation took place those that refused to
take on the new form, left the city taking their chances
on their own and are thought to have died.
As the general populace transferred their minds into
the new bodies, it was decided that no longer would
they cling on to the past. They were reborn and they
would be immortal, it was though they had ascended
into a higher life form.

They were an unstoppable force, unaffected by the

frailty of a fleshy form, single minded in their cause,
they ignored the pleas of those they took as slaves as
they were transformed into mindless drones.
The unstoppable tide of metal swept across the planet,
its tentacles thundering into the ground whilst the
drones within drained the world of its resources.
Upon reaching the Imperial City of the Sun and almost
destroying it they met an equal force which left their
leader almost dead and their warrior cast almost
destroyed. They vanished as quickly as they appeared.

The Dominus
The Dominus is the leader of the Mechanicus. Since the
Mechanicuss fall at the City of the Sun, the Dominus
has been in a state of repair.
Dominus is connected to the city with wires and
pipes that feed its colossal form, and also pass
information back and forth to connect all.
In order to keep control of the Hive the
Dominus is hard wired into every facet of its
city. A braincomputer interface, referred
to as a direct neural interface, gives
the Dominus a direct communication
pathway to the rest of the Hive, its
machines and the citizens.
Dominus is the heart and mind of
the city whilst the members are an
extension to its eyes and ears.
Being hard wired into the floating city allows the
Dominus to watch everything that is happening
around the outer limits of the floating city safely
from the Grand Chamber.
It also allows the Dominus to bare
the cities weapons and tendrils on
targets below, and organize the city
defences to repeal attacks.

20

Whilst in repair by an army of drones Dominus passed

rule of the city onto the Council Elders to maintain
order within the Hive.

Before the transformation into the giant mechanical

leader which it is today, the Dominus were a ruling body
of the dying civilization, made up of three individuals
called the Tri-Dominus:
A religious leader
A civic leader
A military leader
These three leaders voted on matters of state. In
times of disagreement, or if two of the leaders failed
to reach an agreement, the third would have the final
say.
When it came to transfer their minds into the new
bodies it was decided that there would be only one
body, and this body would hold all three minds.
These three minds, each one capable of individual
or unified thought, makes the Dominus an adept
strategists and leader.
The Dominuss body is built to resemble the god which
is said to originally give life to their race and is seen by
the rest of the Hive as the living incarnation of the
deity.
When standing to its full height the Dominus stands roughly
400ft tall. Its body has four arms and two legs and is armed
with a number of personal defence devices and weapons
to lay waste to its enemies.

The Floating City

Since their defeat in the Great War, the Mechanicus has
been forced into hiding, taking refuge underground so
the drones can repair the damage to the city and the
Dominus.
The city colony consists of a series of chambers,
connected to each other by corridors. At its
heart is the Grand Chamber, and within that,
supported by hundreds or wires and pipes
is the Dominus.
The Mechanicus follow a Hive mentality. The
colony is controlled by a single entity which
is broken down into sub sections, from Council
Elders to the Warrior cast and finally the drones that
maintain the floating city.
The colony is maintained by legions of drones, the city
itself can hold up to a 100,000 individuals.

When ignited the repulsion engines keep the city

hidden within clouds of thick black smoke which
allows it to hide its form from its targets.
Huge tentacles are also thrust into the ground to
allow the drones to mine the resources, allowing
them to travel safely within the tentacle, while the
Warrior cast swoop down and kill enemy threats.

The Council Elders

The Council Elders are made up of the noble families
of the old race. Since the Dominus has been in repair,
and at his request the Council Elders have been left in
charge.
Their duty is to maintain the administrative affairs
and day-to-day running of the Hive and instruct the
remaining warrior cast to watch over the drones.
When the war was the lost, the Council Elders decided
to hide the city far to the north, to begin repairs.
Most cling onto the frailties of their organic past,
dressing in robes and adorning their metal bodies
in precious gems and stones. Others look to better
themselves or gain power.
In-house squabbling is common place within the
Council.

Hive Mentality and Heirarchy

Hive Mentality

The Mechanicus look nothing like their original form.

They have replaced their bodies with sophisticated
cybernetic and robotic parts making them all far
stronger and bigger than their original form, and most
have one arm replaced with a weapon enhancement.
Individual Mechanicus members rarely speak, only
when such communication is really necessary.
Instead, they rely on their Hive mind or collective
consciousness, to communicate with each other.
Each individual, is linked to the collective by a
sophisticated communications network all connected
via the Dominus who ensures each member is given
constant supervision and guidance at all times.
Being part of the Hive also offers significant advantages
to each individual. The groups consciousness helps to
repair damaged body parts or technology.
This is instrumental in the Mechanicuss ability to adapt
with great speed when in battle or when enemy forces
take action against them.

The Mechanicus have in place the following hierarchy

structure:

The Dominus

The Dominus is the head of the Hive. It is connected to

the floating city via a network of wires and pipes that
feed and pass information back and forth to its colossal
form.

Council Elders

Council members are the Nobles of the old race. Since

the Great War these individuals are responsible for the
ruling the city while the Dominus is being repaired.

Elite Guard

The Elite Guard protect the Dominus. Before the Hives

transformation to their current form these guards were
the personal protectors of the three leaders of the TriDominus.
They maintain a presence within the corridors, halls
and throne room in case the floating city is ever
compromised by enemy invaders.

Warrior Cast Overview

The Warrior Cast are deadly machines that are

dedicated to war, each serving a different role on the
battlefield, armed with deadly weapons, used with
inhuman precision.
The warrior cast is broken down into the following
hierarchy and types:

Knights

Knights are the military captains of the old race. They

lead sections of the Warrior Cast into battle. Their
armour is ornate in design, their faces hidden behind a
grilled mask.

Devastators

Devastators are the largest of the warrior cast and

have many different variants, from siege to mobile
weapon platforms.

Heavies

Heavies are named so because of their thicker armour

and are designed to launch devastating support fire
into the enemy ranks. Unlike other Warrior Cast variants,
they are often mounted with multiple weaponry types.

Foot Soldiers

Foot soldiers are the warrior casts rank and file. These
troops are fast and agile. Trained to work in units, they
are the back bone of the Mechanicus force.

Vultures

Vultures are designed to be used as shock troops, to hit

hard into the enemy ranks, then vanish.
Smaller in design the Vultures have aerofoils built into
their arms to help them glide through the air.

Drones

These Mechanicus beings carry out the day to day

routines, repairing systems and maintaining the huge
floating city as well as the Dominus himself.
The Drones are made up of the lower classes and
slaves captured during the Great War.
Those unlucky enough to be chosen or taken in war are
lobotomised, with their minds fused into part droid, part
organic beings.

The World of Solise

The World of Solis has been one of peace for the last
sixteen years. Its land mass is broken down into five
major continents ranging in various size, with smaller
islands to the east.
The worlds shape could be described as an oblate
spheroid. Its sphere like, but Soliss rotation causes
the equator to bulge out slightly. This pole to pole
measurement is therefore 51kilometres less than the
diameter across its equator.
The planet is effectively a big magnet, with poles at the
top and bottom, near to the actual geographic poles.
This magnetic field extend out thousands of kilometres
a region called the magneto-sphere.
Solis orbits its Sun at an average distance of 151
million kilometres every 365.2564 mean solar days or
one sidereal year. For Solis, this gives an apparent
movement of the Sun eastward with respect to the
stars at a rate of about 1/day, or a Sun or Moon
diameter every 12 hours. Because of this motion, on
average it takes 24 hoursa solar dayfor Solis to
complete a full rotation about its axis so that the Sun
returns to the meridian.
The planets life forms are said to form a biosphere,
generally believed to have begun its evolution 4.5
billion years ago. Solis is the only place in the known
universe where life is known to exist.
28

The biosphere is divided into a number of biomes,

inhabited by broadly similar plants and animals.
Terrestrial biomes lying within the poles or in high
altitudes are relatively barren of plant and animal life,
while the greatest diversity of species is found at the
Equator.

Solis Moon

Soliss single moon is a large terrestrial satellite with a

diameter about one-quarter of Solis. It is the largest
moon in the Solar System relative to the size of its
planet.
The gravitational attraction between the planets
influences the tides on Solis, which are locked due to its
rotation period being the same as the time it takes to
orbit Solis.
As a result, it always presents the same face to the
planet. As the Moon orbits, different parts of its face are
illuminated by the Sun, leading to the lunar phases; the
dark part of the face is separated from the light part by
the solar terminator.
Soliss atmosphere has no definite boundary, slowly
becoming thinner and fading into outer space. Threequarters of the atmospheres mass is contained within
the first 11 kilometres of the planets surface.

Some thinkers believe that other Solis-like biospheres

may exist in the universe.

Natural Resources
60% of Solis is covered with oceans; with the remaining
40% being land mass.
The land resources have been exploited by the
Solarians for hundreds of years before the Great War.
Large deposits of fossil fuels are obtained from the
worlds crust, consisting of coal, petroleum and natural
gasses.
These deposits were used by Solarians both for energy
production and as feedstock for chemical production
before the Great War.
Mineral ore bodies have also been formed in worlds
crust through a process of Ore genesis, resulting from
actions of erosion and plate tectonics. These ore
deposits form concentrated sources for many metals
and other useful elements.
The land-based ecosystem depends upon topsoil and
fresh water, and the oceanic ecosystem depends
upon dissolved nutrients washed down from the land.

After the war, the People of Solis returned to more

traditional and natural methods to power their towns
and villages i.e. wind turbines, solar panels and water
generators.
Soliss biosphere produces many useful biological
products, including food, wood, pharmeceuticals, and
oxygen.
The use of land is approximately as follows:

Another source of power on Solis are crystals that are

found deep in the mountain regions of the world.
However, they are difficult to mine due to their fragile
and explosive nature, if not handled properly.

Trigaa:

Fauna
The wildlife of Solis is strange and beautiful
and found in all of its ecosystems.
Solisians have historically tended to
separate civilization from wildlife. This has
caused debate throughout the recorded
history of the planet as religious groups have
often declared certain species to be sacred.
The following is a selection of some of the
more important wildlife species found on
plant Solis:

Night Stalkers

These carnivorous creatures travel in packs

of five to six with an alpha male leading the
pack. Their hard carapace protects their
back and its armoured head has two eye
sockets with three eyes in each. For hunting
it uses its razor sharp claws and viscous
jagged teeth.

Groos

Gr oos are herbivores that stand eighteen

feet high with bloated fury bodies on top
of spindly hoofed legs. This species is almost
extinct due to being over hunted for food
and fur which is excellent for making Solisians
clothing items.

Trigaa

This fast and agile quadruped has a long

neck and slender legs, its body is covered in
a scaly leathery skin, with feathers that cover
its legs and tail completely.
The military favour this creature because of
its high running speeds and stamina. They
take them as hatchlings and train them from
a very early age.

Mot na

These friendly but strange long necked

animals look like a Llama with a rabbit like
head. These creatures are of various shapes
and sizes and have many purposes across
the planet. Some are used for transport,
others are used to pull carts.
The Motna as a species is easy to tame,
and as they are very intelligent they learn
tasks after a few repetitions.

Scorat

These small lizard like creatures grow up to

a foot in length. They have long necks and
short stubby heads. Their eyes are situated
on the sides of their heads and have highly
acute colour vision. Scorats generally
scavenge or hunt small insects to survive.
