The hidden meaning of yin and yang

You all might have seen this symbol before. Nowadays, this classic fish-like shape can be
found in tattoos, in the form of a pendant, on T-shirts, etc. But it is most likely to be found in
a Chinese temple. Actually, the term Taijitu is used to describe the Chinese symbol for the
concept of yin and yang. It comes from Taoism, a philosophical, ethical, and religious
tradition of Chinese origin, and has far more meaning than you probably realize. The yin is
the dark swirl, the yang is the light one, and each side has a dot of the opposite colour,
which gives a clue to its emblematic meaning.
First we consider truthfulness. Taoism teaches that there is a power in the Universe. It is
higher, deeper and truer than any other force. They call it the Tao which means the way,
the path or the principle. It is "the One, which is natural, spontaneous, eternal, nameless,
and indescribable. It is at once the beginning of all things and the way in which all things
pursue their course." Like any debate, the Tao has two sides, unlike other religions, such as
ours, where the higher power is all-good and, perhaps, has an all-evil rival in order to create
a balance. This leads to the second question of the 4WayTest: Is it fair to all concerned?
When it comes to fairness, well, it depends on how you see everyday life. If you look
carefully, you can see that there is yin and yang in everything because any plant, any animal,
any object contains a seed of its opposite. Every villain has the seed of goodness and every
hero has the potential to fall into the dark side. Anyway, yin and yang are not total
opposites. They are connected to each other. Therefore, it can be fair to those who relate to
the fact that nothing is perfect, nothing is pure. It may be unfair to those who believe in the
perfectibility of human nature, who think that purity is the highest goal. Taoists believe that
the Universe is made up with energies, vibrations and matter which behave differently in
different contacts. Something can be yin or yang based on many aspects. For example, a
waves crest is yang and the trough is yin. The break is yin for the gas pedal is yang. More
interesting, villages on the sunny side of a valley in China have names like Shenyang or
Luoyang, whereas the shady side has settlements called Jiangyin or Huayin.
Third, we turn to whether it will build goodwill and better friendships. It does. Taoists
believe that living in harmony with the way - remember what the Tao means, right? - a
person will not have to fight against the Universes natural flow. For example, listen more,
argue less, and consequently your relationships with other beings will improve. After all, yin
and yang are two sides of the same coin. Yang is stronger, brighter, harder and faster. The
yang starts an action and the yin receives it, completes it. Yin is the inside space of a ball. It
wouldnt be a ball without it. Yang is the ball. You lie to your parents about the party you
threw when they were gone and tell them you stayed with your best friend. Your best friend
joins you, and lies as well. You would have been in big trouble if he or she hadnt done it.
Moreover, yin and yang build not only better friendships, but also stronger relationships
between females and males. Yin is the darker swirl, the female, but there is a white dot in it,
and yang is the lighter one, the male, but it has a black dot. What does this say to you? To
me it says that the union between the two is inevitable.
Finally, we consider the benefits to all involved. Of course, there are benefits! If you
understand what Taoism is all about, it will change your perspective for good. You learn to
accept the fact that there are obstacles in life in order to pass them. Everything that downs
you should make you want to fly. And that is all that needs to be said on this point.
The purpose of Taoism is to demonstrate that you dont have to be the best. It is enough to
be just who you are. Dont complicate your life. Take a step back and see the picture as a
whole. Maybe you are just having a bad day. Remember all the good aspects from the past
month or year. This way you will make even faster progress. The wise person is flexible
Taoists say. Use those bumps to create a better version of the story of your life. The best
weapon in this world is to know your yin from your yang.
