Engineering: Design, Development, Integration, Test & Validation

Under the control of System Engineers, there are a number of diverse engineering activities to be
performed from design to test/acceptance of a product or system. These challenging areas of
work generally include; requirements analysis, functional specifications, systems/sub-systems or
components design, virtualisation processes and tools, simulation and prototyping, testing,
integration and validation.
Design & development can cover many different technical domains like Electrical and Electronic
Design, Electronics and Microelectronics, Information & Software Technologies, Metallic
Materials, Composite / Non Metallic Materials, Mechanics / Structures, Operational Analysis &
Simulation, Propulsion & Pyrotechnics, Communications or other areas.
The most relevant tasks for Design and Development Engineers are described below.
The Design and Development departments realise a product/service and perform activities in at
least one of the specific phases of the development cycle (e.g. the V model), applied to specific
technical domain(s). They also often contribute to development of technologies, processes and
tools related to such specific domain(s). After analysis of higher level requirements and design of
domain specific lower level technical requirements, teams work out lower level architectures and
select feasible and efficient solutions in line with system constraints (including cost). Engineers in
this field are also responsible for Unitary, Integration and Global Testing prior to the acceptance
process to ensure that the safety & required performance levels are met in line with EADS
engineering processes.
Entry Requirements: You will need to have a Bachelors / Masters degree or equivalent
qualification in one of the following areas; Aeronautical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering,
Aerodynamics, Design Engineering, Avionics, Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Systems
Engineering, Software Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or in a similar relevant field of study
(for example maths and/or physics).
It is desirable for applicants to demonstrate related experience for these roles, which could
include an internship in a related industry or field of work.
Candidates should also have an interest in the wider aerospace, defence and/or space industry
as well as some technical understanding.

Candidates should be computer literate (MS Office, plus any other relevant applications).
Knowledge of software tools and/or programming languages might be required and is desirable
(CAE, CAD, SAMCEF, NASTRAN, PATRAN, Matlab, ABAP, UML, Java, XML, C, C++, .Net,
Fortran, etc.).
