GIN - Gin is a spirit which derives its predominant flavour from juniper berries. From its
earliest beginnings in the Middle Ages, gin has evolved over the course of a
millennium from a herbal medicine to an object of commerce in the spirits industry.
Today, the gin category is one of the most popular and widely distributed range of
spirits, and is represented by products of various origins, styles, and flavor profiles that
all revolve around juniper as a common ingredient. Other flavorings are lemon and
orange peel, coriander, anjelica, orris root, cardamom, grains of paradise, cubeb
berries, almond and cassia bark.

TEQUILA/MEZCAL - Tequila is a distilled beverage made from the Weber blue agave
plant. Tequila is primarily produced in the area surrounding the city of Tequila, 40 miles
northwest of Guadalajara and also in the highlands (Los Altos) of the north western
Mexican state of Jalisco. Mezcal, or mescal, is a distilled alcoholic beverage made
from the maguey plant, another form of agave native to Mexico. The word mezcal
comes from Nahuatl mexcalli metl and ixcalli which means "oven-cooked agave".

Plata = blanco, white or silver: unaged and bottled or stored immediately after distillation. Can be
aged less than two months in stainless steel or neutral oak barrels
Reposado = rested: aged a minimum of two months, but less than a year in oak barrels of any
size
Aejo = aged or vintage: aged a minimum of one year, but less than three years in small oak
barrels

but these products are typically named eaux-de-vie, especially in France. In some
countries, fruit flavoring or some other flavoring may be added to a spirit that is called
brandy".

LIQUEUR/CORDIAL/AMARI - A liqueur/cordial is an alcoholic beverage made from a
distilled spirit that has been flavored with fruit, cream, herbs, spices, flowers or nuts
and bottled with added sugar or other sweetener. Liqueurs and cordials are typically
quite sweet; they are usually not aged for long after the ingredients are mixed, but may
have resting periods during their production to allow flavors to marry. Amaro (Italian for
Bitter), is commonly drunk after dinner as digestif. Amaro is produced by macerating
herbs, roots, flowers, bark and citrus peels into neutral spirits or wine, sweetened and
then aged in casks or bottles.

usually brandy, is added to the wine in order to create different flavors in the final
product. A few examples of fortified wine are port, sherry, madeira and vermouth.
