RAYMAN, CURTIS OPEN 2014 FLORIDA 10 SERIES
WITH WINS AT INAUGURAL FLORIDA10 LAKELAND

THE WOODLANDS, TEXAS (October 22, 2014) Tampas Joshua Rayman and
Valricos Adrienne Curtis used strong second-loop racing on Sunday to separate from
Michael Zwijacz and Terry Rejimbal, respectively, to launch the 2014 Florida 10 Series
by winning the inaugural Florida10 Lakeland near Florida Polytechnic University on
Sunday.
The two-loop, 10-mile event hosted 196 finishers while a companion single-loop, 5-
mile race produced another 46 finishers under clear, sunny skies and mild temperatures.
The second race of the 2014 Florida 10 Series the Florida10 Sarasota -- will be run
from Nathan Benderson Park in Sarasota on Sunday, December 7 beginning at 7:30 a.m.
Valrico native Zwijacz, Rayman and Plant Citys John Carter all crossed the five mile
split within two seconds of each other - in 29 minutes and two seconds, but Zwijacz earned
a $75 prime by narrowly edging out the other two.
Rayman, a 45-year-old philosophy professor at the University of South Florida,
broke away from the duo to produce a 47-second negative split on the second loop, a
winning time of 57:19 and $150 for the victory.
The battle between Curtis and Rejimbal on the first 5-mile loop was as equally
impressive as the two ran step-for-step much of the way.
Crossing the five-mile split in 32:31 first -- and within in six-tenths of a second of the
other, Curtis nosed out one of central Floridas most prolific masters runners to earn the
$75 prime before opening up an even wider second-loop lead than Rayman had on Zwijacz.
The 24-year-old Curtis, third at last years Kentucky Derby Festival Half Marathon in
her home state of Kentucky, nearly even split the second loop in 32:54 to win with a time of
1:05:25 and the $150 first place prize.
Zwijacz, 23, and Carter, 36, were second and third in 57:57 and 59:51, respectively,
while Rejimbal, 46, and Lakelands Jeannette Wallace, 36, rounded out the womens top
three in 1:06:44 and 1:12:23.
Spring Hills James Amodie, 18, who ran track and cross country at Springstead
High School, and Tampas Monica Landers, 29, won the companion 5-mile race in 32:39
and 39:57, respectively.
All 10-mile finishers on Sunday earned points to be eligible for up to $7,800 prize
money in the Ponce De Leon Cup competition which will be divided among the male and

female age groups for those runners who complete both races of the 2014 Florida 10
Series.
Additionally, clubs including large representation on Sunday from both the
Lakeland Runners Club and the Lakeland Galloway Marathon Training Program, plus
runners with Black Girls Run in both Tampa and Orlando and Run Tampa can earn $2,600
in the Everglade Cup Competition, which is based on the total number of finishers in all
three Florida 10 Series distances.
The winning club at the end of the Series earns a top prize of $1,000 followed by
$750 and $500 for second and third places, respectively.
Runners, who hailed from 60 different Florida cities or towns, five states and the
United Kingdom, were supported on the course by Bartow Engineering Academys
Technology Student Association, Haines Citys Athletic Ambitions Sports, Inc. and students
from Florida Polytechnic University.
