Descriptive Title : General Psychology with Family Planning and HIV / AIDS Prevention

Curricular Area : Bachelor of Science in Marine Transportation

Course Description : The course deals with the basic concepts of psychology and its foundation associated with
school of thoughts, its history and its proponents in order to understand and to study the
human mind and behavior.

GENERAL OBJECTIVES:
At the end of the semester the students are expected to:
1. Define the true meaning of Psychology and its underlying factors that could affect the human mind and behavior of an individual.
2. Recognize one's Personality and Behavior in order to become fully aware with the feelings of others and to accept theirselves as a unique individual.
3. Manipulate and to modify the negative thoughts and feelings of an individual into positive ones so that they will embody a positive outlook in life.
4. Point out the different methods of Family Planning and to identify HIV/AIDS as a serious, deteriorating health disease of the immune system and classify ways to prevent
it.

General Objectives:
At the end of the unit, the students are expected to:
1. State the their own understanding regarding the true meaning of Psychology and its History.
2. Identify and to explain the different branches of Psychology.
3. Compare and to contrast the various types of methodological research used in studying Psychology.
4. Relate the genetic information of an individual to the Psychology of Human behavior and how it affects the Cognitive and Developmental Stage of a person.
5. Recognize the different parts of the brain and how it affects bodily functions of an individual and to differentiate the difference between Central Nervous
System and Peripheral Nervous System and its subdivisions.
6. Explain the definition of Sensation and Perception and to label and classify the different parts of the organ system involved such as the Eyes, Ear, Nose,
Tongue and Skin.

2. Give some examples of theory Language acquisition.
3. Define the meaning of intelligence according to their own understanding.
4. Identify the levels of intelligence from Genius to Average and to mentally retarded individuals and to discover that every individuals have their own unique
intelligences.
5. Classify the motivational theories and to differentiate moods from emotions and also to state some examples emotions.
6. Explain stress as a threat to our health and is link with illness that might lead to diseases and students should also be knowledgeable on how to conteract stress by
using the different coping strategies.

4. Give examples or methods on how to manage Psychological Disorders and its symptoms.
5. Explain the importance of Family Planning and HIV prevention in our country and how they can contribute to stop the spread of the disease.

POLICIES: Regular attendance and punctuality are expected. Attendance will be checked each session. It is the responsibility of the student to initiate arrangements for all
missed activities, recitation, and examinations. Excessive absences and work not made up shall adversely affect the grade for the course. It is expected that each
student shall do his/her own work on exam.

GRADING SYSTEM: Grades will be taken periodically on the following requirements such as attendance, recitation, projects, quizzes (announced) and examinations. The computation
of grades is based on modified transmutation table, where a student has to get 60% of the total number of items in order to get a passing grade of 75%.

PG = (CS x 60%) + (PE x 40%)
MG = (CS x 60%) + (ME x 40%)
PFG = (CS x 60%) + (PFE x 40%)
FG = (CS x 60%) + (FE x 40%)
FR = PG + MG + PFG + FG / 4
