Course: UHAS 3012 Entrepreneurship & Enterprise Development
Semester: Semester 1 Session 2014/2015
Introduction Students will be assigned into groups of FIVE members based on AIMS registration list, reflecting ethnic and gender composition of the class. No change of group membership is allowed. List of group members will be distributed in week 1.
Each group will have to complete three group assignments during the semester. Each assignment will measure students skills and knowledge progressively developed during the semester. Each member will be awarded equal mark unless specially requested by other members. Peer evaluation mark will not be used to apportion group marks to individual members. To complete the assignments, students need to 1. work together in teams of varied backgrounds 2. complete each parts in progression as guided by the lecturers 3. show high commitment and cooperation
Note: All submitted reports should be accompanied by the appropriate assessment forms and peer evaluation forms downlodable from the e-learning portal of the respective lecturer
A. Background The main task of this assignment is to gather necessary information in order to prepare a written article or story (profile) of a selected entrepreneur. This assignment provides opportunity for students to meet and interview their chosen entrepreneur and learn from them first hand.
B. The task Each group is required to identify and submit at least 3 entrepreneurs for approval by the end of week 3. Once approved, students need to make the necessary arrangements to have an interview session with ONE of the entrepreneur including getting approval letter from the faculty and arranging for interview appointment with the entrepreneurs. Students are highly expected to put on appropriate attire and maintain professional manners when meeting their chosen entrepreneurs. All group members must be present during the interview session, to be proven by selected pictures of all group members with the interviewee. They are encouraged to discuss their interview questions with their lecturers prior to conducting the interview and to record the interview sessions in audio or video forms for their reference. A written report based on the interview is to be submitted on the last day of week 8. A brief guide of what information to be gathered is provided in the attachment.
Each report should not be longer than 20 pages, excluding exhibits, pictures and attachments and can be written either in Bahasa Malaysia or English. The report should be in the form of articles of publishable quality, rather than merely a full transcript of the interview or a collection of pictures. Copying previously published paper-or-online-based articles are strictly unacceptable and considered plagiarising. (notes: students need to submit a CD containing the interview recording and soft copy of the article)
C. Assessment (20%) The assignment is evaluated based on quality of the report as well as on efforts, creativity and teamwork. Assignment 2: Business Plan (compulsory) CLO 1; PO1, PO3, PO4
A. Background In the same group, students are required to develop a business plan in progression for their business ideas. The assignment provides opportunity for students to creatively choose and set up entrepreneurial ventures and develop written business plan for their respective ventures according to suggested models. Once completed, each group is given the opportunity to present the business plan to a panel identified by the lecturers for evaluation and comments.
B. The task: a. Every group will run business simulation sessions to identify business opportunities, set-up and register their respective businesses and develop and present their business plan starting from week 3. b. Every groups should come up with a properly registered business and a properly written company profile by week 6. c. From week 7 onwards, every group will develop their business plan progressively until week 13. d. A complete business plan will be presented to a panel on week 14. A final version must be submitted for assessment on the last day of week 14.
C. Assessment Assessment is based on two parts, i.e. presentation and report as follows: Presentation 10 marks Report 20 marks Total 30 marks
Assignment 3: Business Activities (compulsory) CLO 1; PO2, PO3, PO4
A. Background Preferably in the same group, students are required to plan and organise business activities for at least one day. Students are required to run their business activities either during university events or organising business carnival specifically for this purpose. Each group is expected to arrange for all the required resources, including financial and human resources. A report is to be submitted for assessment after the event.
B. The task a. Each group must submit a business proposal by week 3 b. On the day of the event, each group must run the business according to plan. c. After the events, each group is required to submit a report for assessment. The report should contain all activities before, during and after the event as well as the financial matters pertaining to the activity including the budget, costing, pricing, sales, profit and profit sharing. Each report should be concluded with all points learned from the activity. There is no specific formats or length limitation for the report. d. Marks will not be based on profitability alone.
C. Assessment (25%) Assessment is based on reports submitted after the business activities and observation during the activities.
GUIDE TO THE PREPARATION OF ASSIGNMENT 1: ENTREPRENEURS PROFILE
The interview would provide the opportunity to students to learn directly from entrepreneurs. The structured interview will need to be recorded and transcribed so that students can refer to when preparing their reports. The report MUST be prepared based on the interview and contain at least the following sections:

STUDENTS are highly recommended to seek permission to have the entrepreneur to fill in the Personal Entrepreneurial Competency form to gauge the PEC score of the entrepreneur.
