Identify, gather and evaluates geographical information using the RAP process
You will be completing a Research Action Plan on the geographical issue of
coastal management at Collaroy/Long Reef Beaches. This task will be
divided into 3 parts.

Part 1: Pre Field Work - Steps 1-4

Step 1: - Identifying the area of fieldwork
Step 2: - choose ONE question from the list provided in your fieldwork
booklet
Step 3: - identifying the primary and secondary sources needed to complete
the field work
Step 4: - describing how the sources will answer your chosen question
To be completed in the fieldwork booklet provided.

Part 2: Fieldwork (Excursion) - Steps 5-6

Step 5: Most of this will be done on the Excursion. You are expected to
submit your excursion notes. It is meant to be a little messy. You need to
take photographs and gather evidence to answer your ONE chosen question
Step 6: To be done in your booklet. This is where you analyse your fieldwork
and secondary sources.

Part 3: Response - Step 7-8
Will be completed in class in a timed (exam) situation. You will need to bring
in your fieldwork booklet to assist you. You will answer the chosen question
in class on this day. You can use your fieldwork booklet to assist you,
HOWEVER, you CANNOT write your ENTIRE RESPONSE IN YOUR
BOOKLET. ONLY THE NOTES FROM THE EXCURSION.

The fieldwork booklet and the response to the question will both be marked
and will make up your final mark for this assessment.
Collect, analyse and synthesize primary and secondary sources to support your focus
questions
Demonstrate and implement a RAP that explores the geographical processes, human
impacts and attitudes towards coastal environments
Evaluate attitudes towards coastal management at the Northern Beaches and suggest a
range of effective suggestions to improve the situation
Use appropriate written and graphic forms to communicate geographical information in
their RAP

You will be undertaking fieldwork at Narrabeen, Collaroy and/or Dee Why Beach and
investigating the geographical issues affecting the coast in those areas. You will also
present your information using the Research Action Plan (RAP) steps.
