A Comprehensive Introduction 14 th April - 23 rd April 2014
COURSE OVERVIEW Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) is the art of simulating a flow of fluid or gas in a given geometry. It is often used to assess the performance of engineering devices, to explore in a cost-effective manner several competing designs, or to provide understanding of flow processes within or around a given configuration. It is essential to have an excellent understanding of each of six key stages to produce an accurate CFD simulation. These key stages include creating and/or importing your geometry into CFD software (e.g. a CAD model/Ansys DesignModeler, UGNX, Gambit); creating a computational grid; choosing the best algorithm for your problem; running the simulation; verifying the results and finally post-processing the data. We will take you through each stage of this process during the 08 days course, imparting advice and best practice guidelines based on our substantial expertise within this field. The course has a strong emphasis on the application of CFD with substantial hands-on experience using geometry/meshing package (Ansys DesignModeler/UG NX8.0/GAMBIT 2.4) and a leading commercial CFD package ANSYS FLUENT14 for processing, post-processing and data analysis package. WHO SHOULD ATTEND? This course is ideal for: Employees/Engineers looking to use CFD in future projects. Researchers or students who plan to use CFD during their research project. BENEFITS On completion of this course: You will have an appreciation of CFD and underlying theory. The effective use of geometry/grid generation softwares. An understanding of the different numerical methods employed in CFD software. The choice of appropriate CFD methods and turbulence models. You can demonstrate the confidence in your CFD results. You can develop 2D/3D CFD model and converge the problem independently. COURSE TOPICS The course features lectures on Fluid Mechanics/Basics of CFD 2D/3D Geometry Designing Grid Generation methods and analyzing Quality of Grid Numerical Methods CFD for Reacting/Non Reacting flows Turbulence Modeling Steady state and Unsteady State modeling Problem solving techniques and convergence criteria Principles of Verification and Validation Post-processing and Visualization The course focuses on hands on experience including using Workbench Environment along with Ansys Design Modeler, Ansys Meshing, UG NX 8.0, GAMBIT 2.4 to generate computational grids and FLUENT14 to solve the numerical problems, analyze the problem and visualize the results through Ansys CFDPost.
