The evolution worldview and the creation worldview have a
significant impact on the way someone views the value of human
life. If we look at the way evolution seems to value human life, it is not very high. I would venture to say that if evolution were true there would be no value to human life. When we look at the creation worldview this by its very presupposition is created by life. Evolution presupposes no supernatural transcendent being. Creation is all about a supreme being and his revelation to his creation. For the module this week I thought it was really important to talk about creation being purposive and about evolution being non-purposive. When we talk about purpose in correlation with the value of human life it is vital. I believe everyone has a hunger and a need to know that they have a purpose. Ultimately creation reveals with clarity our purpose in serving Christ. The purpose of this enlightenment is that through the church the multifaceted wisdom of God should now be disclosed to the rulers and the authorities in the heavenly realms. This was according to the eternal purpose that he accomplished in Christ Jesus our Lord.(Eph.3:10-11 NET) What I am trying to say is that value is closely related to purpose. Without this sense of purpose in our life value becomes weak. A humanistic style of living leaves a person lost and searching.
Knowing the cultural and historical background of the New Testament is very important in understanding God's word. This comes into play when we are applying hermeneutic methodology to God's special revelation. It is very important that we have an understanding of how God chose to reveal his truth in that place and time of historical significance. We need to continually remind ourselves that Scripture was written for us not to us. We all are living in a different place and time as all of the New Testament was written between A.D. 45 to approximately A.D. 100. We need to have some knowledge and understanding of God's word in order to defend it and be prepared to give an answer. But set Christ apart as Lord in your hearts and always be ready to give an answer to anyone who asks about the hope you possess.(1 Peter 3:15 NET) It is necessary to keep in mind that we need to allow the Holy Spirit to guide us in our studies. Understanding the language barriers of the translation process and the culture at that time will allow many to better explain any questions that might arise from others ignorance. The New Testament is a living book that continues to provide answers in the present as well as questions that we might have about the past. Culture definitely plays a part today in our lives every day as we are blessed to see here in America with so much diversity. People are proud of their culture and the Bible illustrates the magnitude that culture has had on people from the beginning. Most importantly it reveals truth that is unmatched.
