I propose my internship be completed at Landrum Middle School located in a rural community off highway 26 near the North South Carolina border. It is a small school consisting of only 300, 6 th through 8 th graders with about 30 faculty and staff members. We have recently upgraded to wireless network and are ready to move forward in our integration of technology. Our district level focus is on effectively using technology in the classroom to increase student achievement and prepare our students for the 21 st century workplace.
Our teachers are in a variety of places with regards to technology. Some teachers feel very comfortable using it in daily tasks as teachers others are ready to use it on a daily basis with students. After talking with our instructional coach and my fellow teachers. I feel a web page that houses instructions in video and handout format would be beneficial to our teachers and help us move forward with technology integration. The website would include day to day administrative types of task in addition to resources and ideas on how to successfully integrate technology in the classroom. When possible I would like to include student examples and rubrics to help teachers with assessment. Our district uses the SAMR model of integrations. I will research this model and will follow the same vision as the district for this website. I would also like to incorporate some kind of feedback system from the teachers in our school so that I can monitor and adjust the information on the website to best meet everyones needs.
I will be working with Jennifer Henson; she has a Masters of Education in Learning Disabilities from Furman University and is currently working on her Masters in Educational Leadership from Furman. As my mentor Mrs. Henson will help make decisions on what types of tools and training to include on the site to meet the needs of our faculty and staff. She is our instructional coach and is well versed in technology. Mrs. Henson works closely with our District Level Instructional Technology Coach and is willing to pass along the information she is learning in her coaches meetings. Mrs. Henson is also part of our schools leadership team and will be able to help me develop quality in-service training for the teachers in my school. We would like to create a website that is beneficial to teachers and one that they will be willing to visit for resources and lessons; allowing them to effectively use technology in a meaningful way with their students.
