STAR WARS EPISODE VII - ECHOES OF THE PAST
Text crawl:
The time of evil is over. The Jedi knights, custodians of
justice in the universe, have long since fallen into legend.
The former galactic empire has been replaced by the galactic
union. Comprised of hundreds of planets working in alliance,
the union ushers in a new era of peace and reconciliation.
Luke Skywalker, the last and most brave of the Jedi, lives a
solitary life as a farmer on the remote planet of Strayus.
His days of adventure and heroism are long passed. However,
the echoes of the past never stay silent
Text crawl ends.
Camera pans down from the disappearing text onto the vastness
of space.
A huge dirty, neglected spaceship - an old freighter class -
tears through the spaceways. A much smaller, sleeker craft
leaves from the freighters shuttle bay. The craft heads
toward a planet.
As the craft descends into Strayus atmosphere the interior
is shown. It is a class C planet. Non-industrial, an
agricultural world. Onto a large city and the camera
pans/wipes to smaller settlements. Onto a few buildings and a
farm.
This is the home of Luke Skywalker, the last Jedi in the
galaxy.
EXT. STRAYUS TOWN MARKET - DAY
Busy market full of patrons. Luke is buying food.
Luke has a beard, unkempt hair. He is older with the
experiences of a full life etched on his face. His clothing
is functional looking. He carries a weathered looking
rucksack.
Luke is chatting with some market traders. The dialogue is
not heard but Luke smiles and appears in good mood. He buys
some fruit and meat. He places them in his rucksack.
FARM
Luke returns to his farm. A small boy (age ten) stands at the
entrance.
LUKE SKYWALKER
Here... I bought these.
He opens his hands to reveal some fruit.
LUKE SKYWALKER (CONTD)
Take some.
The boy takes the fruit. Has a bite.
BOY
Mmm, delicious. Any more?
LUKE SKYWALKER
Some other time. Got work to do.
BOY
Its true, isnt it? What they say.
That youre a Jedi.
LUKE SKYWALKER
Theyre long gone, kid.
Luke pats the boy on the shoulder as if to signal a friendly
goodbye. Luke walks towards his home. The boy watches him.
INT. LUKE SKYWALKERS HOME - DAY
Luke in his home - a modest dwelling.
Luke places food in a storage area. He walks into his main
living room. His lightsaber rests in a cabinet. There are no
other objects visible from his past.
Luke walks over to windows. Looks out onto the vast horizon.
Voices stir from the past. Wedge from Ep 4, Han, Leia Vader
trying to turn Luke to the dark side, Yodas wise mentoring.
Memories flood back into Luke's mind.
EXT. STRAYUS TOWN - DAY
Craft (seen previously) landing on the outskirts of the main
town. Ramp extends from the craft and three sinister looking
men exit on their bike speeders. Their clothing, weaponry and
demeanor indicate they have evil intent. They are ruthless
mercenaries. Two advanced looking robots also ride bike
speeders.
Robots are tracking Luke's location with heat signature
devices. The men and robots speed away heading towards
Luke's farm.

EXT. FARM FIELDS - DAY
Luke is using a hov-tractor to plow the fields.
STRAYUS TOWN
The mercenaries ride through the markets and narrow
residential streets. Residents are taken aback by their
excessive speed. The robot trackers have got a precise pin on
Skywalker. Their tracking devices emit a loud signal.
FIELDS
Luke continues his farming.
OUTER PERIMETER OF FARM
The mercenaries approach the farm and Lukes dwelling.
FIELDS
The harvested crop is filling up in the tractors rear
collecting bales.
FARM
The young boy sees the mercenaries arrive and hides behind a
disused farm building. He look on the mercenaries spread out -
the men take the left flank, the two robots the right.
FIELD
Luke hears a rustle. He stops his machine. Silence save for
the tiny chatter of animals. His Jedi force is alerting him
of something. He turns his head to the side but there is
nothing. He is about to restart the tractor when a huge
explosion rocks the side of the tractor. The machine veers to
the right and turns over.
Slightly dazed, Luke climbs out and sees the riders fast
approaching.
The leading mercenary rider (rider#3) fires a plasma trap out
of the front of his bike speeder. The plasma trap is a net-
like force field.
The trap hurtles through the sky and lands on Luke. It traps
him, pinning him to the ground. Luke screams out in anger. He
punches the plasma trap open. Blood soars from his fist. He
staggers to his feet.
The robots charge forward. Luke leaps into battle and fights
them with blood soaked hands. He punches both robots off
their bikes and engages in close combat. Their robotic arms
and hands move at super fast speed but Lukes reflexes are up
to the task. The fight is swift and brutal but Luke overcomes
the two robots.

The mercenaries open fire with their speeder guns. Luke runs
through the fields as crops explode around him. The
mercenaries circle around Luke.
LEADER OF MECENARIES
You think you can beat us, old
Jedi?
Luke concentrates. He uses all of his Jedi mind power.
LUKES HOME
The lightsaber moves in the cabinet. The cabinet opens and
the lightsaber travels through the air, through the window,
breaking the glass pane. The weapon glides through the vast
fields and into Lukes hand.
FIELD
Luke scans for his prey. His force sense is alert as ever.
The mercenaries press forward. Luke raises his lightsaber.
The light barrel extends. He is ready.
Rider#2 races in firing his speeder guns. Luke deflects the
blasts with his lightsaber. As the bike is about to pass by,
Luke lunges forward with his weapon. The bike is split into
two. The rider falls to the ground.
Rider#1 continues the attack. Luke runs straight at him.
Seconds before they collide, Luke leaps into the air and land
on the bike, just behind the rider. Luke grabs the riders
neck and hurtles him backward off the speeder.
Luke takes control of the bike speeder. He arches the vehicle
around the crop fields. Luke points his lightsaber onto the
ground and the crops react to the fierce heat of the blade. A
trail of fire follows behind the vehicle. Luke lifts the
lightsaber up and races toward the final assailant - rider#3,
the leader of the mercenaries.
Luke catches up with the bike speeder. The rider turns his
head around realizing Luke is directly behind. He activates a
small console pad in the palm of his hand.
EXT. CRAFT
The crafts auto pilot mode is engaged. The craft takes off
and heads for the farm.
FIELDS
Luke opens fire with the speeders blasters. Rider#3 does his
best to swerve out of the way but Lukes accuracy is too
precise. A shot hits the bike speeder.

The bike loses control and slams into the corn. Rider#3, cut
and bruised, crawls away. He has dropped his hand blaster. He
starts to run toward the farm. The boy looks on in shock.
Luke is fast approaching. Rider#3 activates the console pad
in his hand.
Seconds before Lukes bike speeder has caught up with the
rider, the craft appears. It swoops down and opens fire. Luke
fails to see the craft appear. There is a huge explosion.
Crop explode in a ball of fire. Luke is thrown off his bike
and falls to the ground. Blood pours from the side of his
head. He looks seriously injured. He is unconscious.
Rider#3 touches the console pad one last time and the craft
lands near to Luke. Rider#3 can barely walk. He staggers back
to Skywalker.
INSIDE CRAFT
The rider drags Luke up the crafts ramp and drops him on the
floor. Plasma-locks are placed on Lukes arms and legs.
Rider#3 activates the ramp and it is raised up into the
craft.
CRAFT COCKPIT
The rider wipes some of his blood off his uniform. He
activates the engine. The craft lives up off the ground. As
the craft gains height, the boy looks up. He runs down the
dusty road as the craft soars up and away.
