little choice now but to do things Germanys way. Half of all babies born in the U.S. today receive food assistance, and half of all children live in a home that will use food assistance at some point. Germany has proted to the tune of 9 billion from the eurozone crisis over the past two years. the TRUMPETWEEKLY END PAGE2 ORDER PAGE 4 PROFIT PAGE 5 FLAG PAGE 8 WELFARE PAGE 8 A DIGEST OF SIGNIFICANT WORLD NEWS FROM THE PHILADELPHIA TRUMPET STAFF FOR THE WEEK OF NOV. 6-12, 2011 T HE WORLD is fxated on Europe. On Greeces new government, on the details surrounding Silvio Berlusconis resignation, on the yields on Italian government bonds, on the Continents contracting economies, on the rise and fall of the euro. But theres an odd dimension to all the attention Europe is getting. While many are looking, very, very few actually understand what they are witnessing. Take the recent melee in the Greek government. The crisis began October 31, when Greek Prime Minister George Papan- dreou jeopardized the recently created Greek bailout package and infuriated eurozone leaders by announcing he would allow the Greek populace to vote on the austerity conditions ensconced within the bailout package. Although Papandreou reneged two days later, he couldnt stop the tumultuous chain of events that resulted in his resignation Sunday. With Greeces government in turmoil and the future of Europe at stake, eurozone offcials swooped in. First, rather than leave the decision of who should lead Greece to Greek voters in a national election, European elitesusing bailout money as leveragecommanded Athens to form a national unity government. Once it had formed a national unity government, Athens was told it would have to provide written guarantees to Brussels that it would approve the austerity package that was part of the deal to receive bailout money. Olli Rehn, the European commissioner for economic and fnancial af- fairs, told Athens it would not receive an $11 billion bailout installment until the assurances were made. Grasp what is happening here. Greece is a sovereign nation of 11 million people, andor so weve been led to believea valued member of the European community. But over the last week, European elites have blackmailed Athens into foregoing a democratic election, establishing a unity government and then agreeing to pass into Greek law a series of harsh, transformative rules that were created in Brussels. And this wasnt even the most dramatic development in Greece this week. That came yesterday, when news leaked that Greeces leaders had followed orders and selectedas opposed to the Greek populace electingparliamentary speaker Filippos Petsalnikos to be the new prime minister. Mr. Petsalnikoss pedigree is intriguing. Petsalnikos spent most of the 60s and 70s residing in Germany, where he was a leading member of the Panhel- lenic Liberation Movement, a Greek political party created to oppose Greeces 1967-1974 military dictatorship. In 1974, Petsalnikos helped found PASOK, the Panhellic Socialist Movement (now one of the main political parties in Greece), and was one of its most active leaders in Germany during the 70s. Mr. Petsalnikos speaks fuent German, is married to a German lawyer, and for years was a leading fgure in the Greek community in Germany. In April 2009, the Ger- man government awarded him the German Grand Cross with Star for his work in Greek-German relations. No sooner had this news emerged, however, than the deal on forming a Greek national unity government col- lapsed and the position of prime minister was up for grabs again. The latest news indicates that former European Central Bank Vice President Lucas Papademos is the top candidate after feuding in the political parties blocked Petsalnikoss candidacy. Throughout his career, Papademos has held high-level fnancial jobs in Europe and is said to be well respected in European political circles, particu- larly in Germany and France. By all indications, he too is a leader who would be loyal to Brussels. In other words, it appears Germany is on the brink of installing one of its own men on the Greek throne! Not content with this victory, Berlin and Brussels are al- ready maneuvering to do the same in Italy. When the news broke yesterday that Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi will resign, it was reported that he was simply another casualty of Europes debt crisis. But the truth is more sinister. Mr. Berlusconi has aroused the ire of European elites in recent months due to his slow-footed approach to addressing Italys fnancial issues. This week, as the crisis peaked, off- cials in Brussels and Berlin ramped up pressure on Berlus- coni to get economic reforms and the 2012 budget passed in Italys parliament. In order to get the votes needed to pass the legislation, Berlusconi had to promise to resign. Its not clear right now who Italys next prime minister will be. The spotlight is on Mario Monti, an experienced economist and politician and a former European commis- sioner. Not surprisingly, Mr. Monti is a tried and tested Eu- rophile with a record of putting Brussels before Rome. MIDDLE EAST nIran on threshold of nuclear capability: Iran has worked, with help from foreign experts, to design nuclear weapons and is likely still conducting secret research on the project, the United Nations nuclear watchdog said in a report released Tuesday. The report, produced by the International Atomic Energy Agency, said many facets of Irans secret weapons programs went on past the 2003 date the United States had believed was when Tehran stopped all nuclear arms development. Among the fndings that were of gravest concern to UN inspectors was the amount of uranium being enriched to 20 percent in facilities in the city of Qom. Uranium enriched to 3.5 percent is what is required for ci- vilian energy purposes. Once it is enriched to 20 percent, the uranium can be used for medical purposes. It is a long and tedious process to go from 3.5 percent to 20 percent, but it is much easier to go from 20 per- cent up to 90 percent, which is the grade required for nuclear weapons. The true signifcance of a nuclear-armed Iran, wrote Courcys Intel- ligence Brief on November 9, lies not in the threat of a direct attack, but rather that an Iranian nuclear deterrent would prevent Israel from using its own nuclear weapons to defeat an overwhelming conventional attack from its Arab neighbors. Israel came close to doing exactly this during the Yom Kippur War of 1973, and (as chief of staff Benny Gantz has admitted) Israels strategic environment could soon become worse than in 1973, with the possibility of Jordan, Hezbollah, the Palestinian territories, Turkey, and Iran all being added to Egypt and Syria in the balance against Israel. nPakistans nukes are getting more dangerous: The threat of nuclear war is high and rising, says an independent British think tank, the British American Security Information Council. Nuclear weapons are present today in some of the most unstable and violence prone regions of the world, and in Northeast Asia, the Middle East and South Asia, there are serious confict and proliferation concerns that suggest an increased potential for nuclear weapons use, it wrote. One of the biggest concerns is the fastest-growing nuclear arsenal in the world: Pakistan. It is on course to become the worlds fourth-largest nuclear power, above France and the UK. Since the U.S. killed Osama bin Laden in May, Pakistan has become more concerned about keeping its weapons secure from the U.S. The Atlantic reports that the Pakistani government is willing to make its nuclear weapons more vulnerable to theft by jihadists simply to hide them from the United States, the coun- try that funds much of its military budget (December). nAnother earthquake in Turkey: An earthquake in the city of Van in eastern Turkey on Wednesday killed at least seven people. The magnitude-5.7 quake follows the devastating magnitude-7.2 temblor on October 23 that hit the same area, killing more than 600 people and leaving thousands homeless. Jesus Christ prophesied that earthquakes would occur in different places in the end time (Matthew 24:7)the time we are living in now. ASSOCIATED PRESS | November 7 Iranian Infuence Seeping Into Iraq I RANS PRESENCE is already visible in Iraq, from the droves of pilgrims at Shiite holy sites to the brands of yoghurt and jams on grocery shelves. But now Iraqis are bracing for a potential escalation of Per- sian infuence as the U.S. military leaves at the end of the year. THE TRUMPET WEEKLY November 12, 2011 2 Irans Top Leaders Believe That the End of Days Has Come WHY WOULD Iran authorize a major terrorist op- eration on American soil? Skeptics say the much- discussed foiled Iranian plot makes no sense. But Iranian leaders may, in fact, have a motive to accelerate direct attacks on the U.S.: Shia Islamic eschatology, or End Times theology. Irans Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad are convinced that the End of Days has come. They believe the Shia messiah known as the Twelfth Imam or the Mahdi will appear soon to establish a global Islamic kingdom known as the caliphate. Whats more, they believe the way to hasten the coming of the Twelfth Imam is to annihi- late Israel (which they call the Little Satan), and the United States (which they call the Great Satan). Khamenei told Iranians in July 2010 that he personally met with the Twelfth Imam. He also claimed to be the personal representative of the Mahdi on Earth, and said all Muslims must obey him. Meanwhile, Western intelligence agencies say he continues to work with Ahma- dinejad and the Iranian military to develop nuclear warheads and the ballistic missiles to deliver them. Irans leaders actually believe that the de- struction of the U.S. is foreordained . They see U.S. economic weakness as a sign that the end of America is near. To truly understand just how dangerous Irans regime really is, Ameri- can leaders need to better understand Shia eschatology. Shias believe the Mahdi will re- turn in the last days to establish righteousness, justice and peace. When he comes, they say, the Mahdi will bring Jesus with him. Jesus will be a Muslim and will serve as his deputy and he will force non-Muslims to choose between fol- lowing the Mahdi or death. Some believe [the Mahdi] will emerge from the well at the Jamkaran Mosque in Iran and then travel to Mecca and Iraq. Some say that he will conquer Jerusalem before establishing his caliphate in Iraq. Others believe Jerusalem must be conquered as a prerequisite to his return. He is expected to conquer the Arabian Pen- insula, Jordan, Syria, Palestine, Egypt and North Africa, and eventually the entire world. During this time, he and Jesus will kill be- tween 60 and 80 percent of the worlds popula- tion, specifcally those who refuse to convert to Islam. In light of such End Times theology, we shouldnt be surprised that the Iranian regime is taking a more aggressive posture towards the U.S. and Israel. JOEL ROSENBERG, FOX NEWS | November 7 THE TRUMPET WEEKLY November 12, 2011 3 Its a natural step, most agree, for the only two Shiite Muslim-led governments in the Sunni-dominated Mideast to expand their relation- ship. But its a fne line for Iraq to walk, with even many in Iraqs Shiite majority wary of infringement of their countrys sovereignty and afraid of being overrun by the Iranian theocracy. From politics and weapons to pilgrims and consumer products, Iraqis have for years stood by as Iranian infuence seeped in. Its been galling for many still bitter over the destruction that Iran heaped on their homes during the eight-year war in the 1980s that left a half-mil- lion people dead. Top Iranian offcials maintain they are only strengthening diplo- matic and economic ties with Iraq, as they have sought to do since the 2003 ouster of Saddam Hussein. American offcials, however, have long feared what they describe as Iranian meddling in Iraqand its poten- tial to sow unrest across the Mideast. Those worries were a chief driver of failed efforts to leave at least several thousand American troops in Iraq beyond the December 31 withdrawal deadline. At least three Shiite militias backed by Iran ramped up attacks on U.S. troops in Iraq this year in a warning not to stay beyond the dead- line. U.S. and Iraqi intelligence offcials said Iran supplied the militia- men with weapons, training and millions of dollars in funding. Those militias strength will no doubt give them infuence in Iraq after the withdrawal. During a trip last week to Baghdad, Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi described the neighborly re- lationship as two branches belonging to one tree and dismissed U.S. accusations of interference. EUROPE nThe euros dramatic week: The interest rates on Italys 10-year government bonds rose past 7 percent, July 9. When the 10-year bonds of Greece, Portugal and Ireland exceeded this threshold they had to ask for a bailout. But the European Union currently has no way of bailing out Italy. Its fund is too small. If the interest rate doesnt fall soon which it hasnt for any other eurozone nationthen the eurozone will have to make some big changes. Already, Germany is dictating the gov- ernments of eurozone nations. Over the last week, European elites have blackmailed Athens into foregoing a democratic election, establishing a unity government and then agreeing to pass into Greek law a series of harsh, transformative rules that were created in Brussels. Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi dared to suggest that Italy might get on fne without the EU. He has been forced to announce that he will resign. German Chancellor Angela Merkel said on November 9 that the solu- tion to the problem will mean more Europe, not less Europe. She said, It is time for a breakthrough to a new Europe. A community that says, regardless of what happens in the rest of the world, that it can never again change its ground rules, that community simply cant survive. Expect Germany to remake Europe the way it wants to. nFrance begins austerity measures: French Prime Minis- ter Francois Fillon announced a new austerity package on Monday that will reduce spending by 65 billion over the next fve years as France fghts to keep its AAA rating. We wish to protect the French against the grave problems facing other European countries, said Fillon. Bank- ruptcy is not an abstract word. France must make these sacrifces Now that Iraq has been taken out of the picture, Iran is even closer to becoming the reigning king of the Middle East. It may seem shocking, given the U.S. presence in the region right now, but prophecy indicates that, in pursuit of its goal, Iran will probably take over Iraq. Gerald Flurry, Trumpet, June 2003 With Friends Like These THE SLURS against Prime Minister Benja- min Netanyahu voiced by French Presi- dent Nicolas Sarkozy and U.S. Presi- dent Barack Obama after last weeks G-20 summit were revealing as well as repugnant. Thinking no one other than Obama could hear him, Sarkozy at- tacked Netanyahu, saying, I cant stand to see him anymore, hes a liar. Obama responded by whining, Youre fed up with him, but me, I have to deal with him every day. These statements are interesting both for what they say about the two presidents characters and for what they say about the way that Israel is per- ceived by the West more generally. To understand why this is the case it is necessary to frst ask, when has Netanyahu ever lied to Sarkozy and Obama? This week the UN Internation- al Atomic Energy Agencys report about Irans nuclear weapons program made clear that IsraelNetanyahu included has been telling the truth about Iran and its nuclear ambitions all along. In contrast, world leaders have been lying and burying their heads in the sand. So if Netanyahu never lied about Iran, what might these two major world leaders think he lies about? Why dont they want to speak with him anymore? Could it be they dont like the way he is managing their beloved peace process with the Palestinians? The fact is that the only times Netanyahu has spoken less than truthfully about the Pales- tinians were those instances when he sought to appease the likes of Obama and Sarkozy. Because the truth is that Israel never had a chance of achieving peace with the Palestinians. So why do the likes of Sarkozy and Obama hate Netanyahu? Why is he a liar? Why dont they pour out their venom on Abbas, who really does lie to them on a regular basis? The answer is because they prefer to blame Israel rather than acknowledge that their positive assessments of the Palestinians are nothing more than fantasy. And they are not alone. And that is the real message of the Obama-Sarkozy exchange last week. Through it we learn that blaming the Jews and the Jewish state for their enemies behavior is what passes for polite conversation among Western elites today. CAROLINE GLICK, JERUSALEM POST | November 10 to avoid the day where policies are imposed upon us by others, he said. This comes less than three months after Frances last announced austerity measures. Under the new measures, France will increase its retirement age from 60 to 62, increase the sales tax on books, public transport, restaurant meals and other items, reduce health-care spend- ing, and temporarily increase corporation tax. Frances struggles to maintain its AAA rating prove an important point. Some commentators talk about Europe being led by a Franco-German axis. But that is not true. France does not have the resources to bail out impoverished na- tions. It could need a bailout itself soon. He who pays the piper calls the tune. France is not the one paying, so it isnt calling the shots. nGermany: War is legitimate foreign policy: The German Council on Foreign Relations is opening up a debate in Germany via its leading periodical Internationale Politik on how Germany views its military. Its senior editor observes that postwar German society has diffculty openly discussing powerwhich in the end includes military force (No. 6/2011). In its current edition, the periodical quotes Germa- nys defense minister, Thomas de Maizire, as declaring that Military means are the ultimate and not merely the last means. Commenting on the continuing reform measures of the Bundeswehr (initiated by his predecessor Karl Theodor zu Guttenberg), Maizire stated that The question of the deployment of our armed forces will most likely be posed more often in the future, with the Bundeswehr becoming consistently oriented toward deployability and a large range of capabilities also involving high-intensity combat missions. In the same journal, Lt. Col. Christian Freuding (Ret.), a member of the German Defense Ministrys planning staff, points to the Balkan wars as having contri- bution to regional stabilization by yielding a strategic advantage to Europe. This is a blatant admission that Germany had but one motive in destabilizing the Balkans when, with papal support, it initiated confict in the region by the unilateral recognition of Slovenia and Croatia as separate nation states. German- Foreign-Policy.com comments that the debate on Germanys need for a new approach to militarism is really geared to achieving the will of Ber- lin elites as summed up by the current edition of Internationale Politik: The culture of military restraint must give way to a culture of responsi- bility. Being mindful of Germanys history, German-Foreign-Policy.com observes that culture of responsibility means nothing more than the readiness to willingly support a growing number of the Bundeswehrs combat missions (November 2). nGermany sees the need to downsize Europe: Germany is ready to push nations out of the eurozone, say analysts, after Germany and France threatened to kick Greece out last week. Only a short while ago, any idea of a Greek exit from economic and monetary union (EMU) was rejected by Eurocrats as entertained only in the ravings of mad- men, wrote David Marsh for the Wall Street Journals Market Watch. Yet it suddenly became bitter reality after Athens Premier George Pa- pandreous since-rescinded referendum call. Now some experts think Germany will push Europe down this path. Jim ONeill, chairman of Goldman Sachs Asset Management, told the Sunday Telegraph: The Germans want more fscal unity and much tougher central observa- tionwith the idea of a fnance ministry. The future of other nations in the eurozone is actually questionable, he said. The Greeks have a choice: reforms within the eurozone or no reforms and leave, German Economics Minister Philipp Rsler said. There is no third way. The Greek government must at least understand that at some point our patience will end, he said. GERMAN DEFENSE MINISTER THOMAS DE MAIZIRE THE TRUMPET WEEKLY November 12, 2011 4 GETTY IMAGES IT WAS but a glance, a little smirk that the Ger- man and French leaders shared in public when asked about Italys prime minister, Silvio Ber- lusconi, and his countrys economic woes. But that moment at a recent crisis meeting made it very clear where Italyand everyone else stands in the eurozone pecking order. Many Europeans realize that their futures are being increasingly dictated by Germa- ny and Francein that order of importance ... The two leaders are pressing fnancial remedies in lock-step with market forces and faceless offcials from institutions such as the International Monetary Fund and the Eu- ropean Central Bank. There is grumbling across the continent and an anti-German tone to street protests in Greece, refections of a fear that millions are giving up some control over their lives. Even while they acknowledge that economic reforms are necessary, people in Europes fnancially strapped countries worry that the price is a loss of sovereignty. We were supposed to be partners on the same level, but were not, said Armando Romangolo, a 50-year-old barista speaking above the din of a cappuccino ma- chine at a cafe in central Rome. On Wednesday, a team of about 20 Eu- ropean Union inspectors arrived in Italy to ask, among other things, that the Treasury Ministry produce a list of state-owned assets that could be sold. Next week the IMF will visit before it begins to monitor Italys fnances and adherence to reforms demanded by the EU in return for help in fnancing the nations $2.6-trillion debt. This crisis is profoundly transforming European integration, said Nicolas Veron, a senior fellow at Bruegel, a think tank in Brussels. As a result, the eurozone will either break up or establish a new central body with executive powers, he said. Germany is now pushing for greater European integration. Even the Netherlands, which has typifed Northern Europe in its dis- approval of its more free-spending southern neighbors, has proposed the idea of a euro- zone fnance minister. Many analysts agree that one solution would be for the European Central Bank to act as the lender of last resort. In Italys case, that would mean acting as a guarantor of its bonds. But Germany, fearful from its past experience with hyperinfation, has nixed the idea. And Italians, like many others across the continent, see little choice now but to do things Germanys way. Europe Crisis Makes Pecking Order Clear LA TIMES | November 10 LOCAL | November 9 Nuke Report Angers Germany and Its Allies G ERMANY AND its allies have angrily lashed out against Iran after the UN nuclear watchdog published its harshest report yet on Tehrans nuclear program, saying it had sought to build atomic warheads. If Iran continues to refuse to conduct serious negotiations on its nuclear program, new, more severe sanctions would be inevi- table, German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle said, calling the report alarming. He added that discussions with European partners and allies were underway, although he ruled out any military response. France demanded unprecedented UN Security Council sanctions if Irans defance continued, the EU said its concerns were seriously ag- gravated and even ally China said Iran must be sincere after Tuesdays searing IAEA report. The International Atomic Energy Agency said it had serious concerns regarding possible military dimensions to Irans nuclear program, prompting Tehran to insist it would not budge an iota from its nuclear path. The European Union said the report seriously aggravates exist- ing concerns over a military dimension in Tehrans nuclear program. Overall these fndings strongly indicate the existence of a full-fedged nuclear weapons development program in Iran, said Maja Kocijancic, spokeswoman for EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton. DEBKAFILE | November 8 German Air Force in Training for Iran Strike G ERMANY HAS put its Air Force F-16 and Tornado warplanes in in- tensive training for a possible attack on targets in Iran, after tak- ing part last week in a joint drill with the Israeli Air Force and other NATO members at the Italian Decimomannu air base on Sardinia. Iran, for its part, is gearing up for a gloves-off reprisal against its attackers. EU OBSERVER | November 9 Germany Made 9 Billion Proft Out of Crisis G ERMANY HAS profted to the tune of 9 billion from the eurozone crisis over the past two years, an ING economist has calculated for EUobserver, as investors fock to safe but near-zero interest rate bonds while southern euro-countries struggle with unsustainable rates. For a long while, the German economy has been one of the few benefciaries of the sovereign debt crisis. In fact, the German govern- ment can get market funding almost for free, Carsten Brzeski, a senior economist with the ING bank in Belgium, told this website. The trend has steadily driven German bond yields close to zero since the Euro- pean sovereign debt crisis began some two years ago. THE TRUMPET WEEKLY November 12, 2011 5 Amid the economic bedlam besieging Europe, an undisputed reality is emerging: Germany is exploiting this crisis to forge Europe into a vehicle of Teutonic ambition. theTrumpet.com, March 2010 EUROPEAN UNION monitors arrive in Rome as early as Wednesday to keep tabs on Italys leaders. Greece is poised for a cross-party government just days after the European Commission presi- dent called for one. A select group of Eu- ropean leaders dubbed the Frankfurt group now meets to set the course of the eurozone. [T]he dramatic events of the past two weeks have given voters and national governments a preview of what more centralized control over their economic policymaking will look like. The sudden aggressiveness of Brussels institutions, particularly the frequently maligned European Commission, has raised hackles and not only in Italy and Greece, where critics complain their national sovereignty is being encroached. It also has drawn complaints from smaller eurozone countries such as Finland and the Netherlands that believe a small clique of leaders should not be setting policy for 17 members of the single cur- rency. But a series of reforms little noticed outside Brussels has already given the EU more power to intrude in the national decision making of eurozone governments. In the midst of a spiral- ing crisis, European offcials are also suddenly eager to use them. Yes, wake up and smell the coffee. This is what you all signed up for, said one Commis- sion offcial. People want to make sure governments arent cooking the books anymore. It is, in fact, a fragile balance be- tween effectiveness and legitimacy, a eurozone diplomat said. The problem is that this newfound euro governance by France and Ger- many may be necessary by want of any other governance structures, but demo- cratic it is not. Brussels Newfound Aggression Raises Hackles FINANCIAL TIMES | November 7 DER SPIEGEL | November 8 Merkel Seeks to Ease German Arms Exports C HANCELLOR ANGELA Merkel is seeking to make it easier for the Ger- man arms industry to export weapons. In a position paper sent to Brussels recently, Berlin asked that economic interests be ad- equately considered when it comes to export controls on arms shipments. That German exports have remained strong despite the brewing crisis in Europe is hardly a secret. Indeed, a new report emerged on Tuesday indicating that exports actually climbed in October by 0.9 per- cent relative to September. In comparison to September 2010, exports even skyrocketed by a hefty 10.5 percent. [O]ne of the Merkel administrations primary focal points when it comes to arms are exports to Saudi Arabia, despite the countrys autocratic regime. In the future, Berlin hopes, it will become easier to deliver dual-use goods, armaments and weapons to the Gulf country. Already, Germany has delivered a factory to Saudi Arabia for the manu- facture of assault rifes and has exported a border control system. More controversially, Merkels government in July reportedly approved the export of 270 Leopard II battle tanks to Saudi Arabia. ASIA nRussia opposes military action or sanctions against Iran: On Thursday, after the publication of a UN report confrmed longstand- ing suspicions by Western countries that Iran is developing nuclear weapons, Moscow spoke out against military strikes on Iran, saying such action would be a serious mistake with unpredictable consequenc- es. The previous day, veto-wielding Russia said it would not support another set of sanctions against Iran and expressed anger over the UNs publication of the report. Since the report provides strong evidence that Russia aided Iran in its nuclear program, Moscows defense of Tehran comes as no surprise. As Russia works to regain its former Soviet-era infuence, it will become increasingly confrontational toward the West. nChinese manufacturers dupe U.S. military into using coun- terfeit parts: At a hearing on Tuesday, Sen. Carl Levin said China was the primary source of counterfeit parts which some of the largest defense contractors on the globe have been tricked into installing into U.S. military systems. The committee identifed Boeing, L-3, Raytheon, and their suppliers as frms that had unknowingly used faulty com- ponents on equipment such as aircraft video displays, and helicopter night vision systems. The failure of a single electronic part can leave a soldier, sailor, airman or marine vulnerable at the worst possible time. A food of counterfeit electronic parts has made it a lot harder to have confdence that wont happen, Levin said at the hearing. We are going to act. We cannot rely on the Chinese . The Chinese say that they have an effort going on to act against counterfeits and its baloney. When this news is added to reports of Chinas cyberespionage, satellite developments, and warnings about the dollar, it is clear that China will undermine the U.S. from any direction it can. nAsian security bloc calls for closer cooperation: Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin hosted his counterparts from China and four other Asian nations on Monday for a meeting of the Shanghai Coopera- tion Organization (SCO), which is widely seen as a tool Beijing and Moscow use to challenge U.S. infuence in the strategic Central Asia region. The 10-year-old SCO connects China and Russia with Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, THE TRUMPET WEEKLY November 12, 2011 6 PREPARATIONS WERE under way last night for the break-up of the euro as Europes debt crisis spiraled out of control. As Treasury of- fcials worked through the night to soften the impact on Britain, David Cameron warned that the single European currency was facing its moment of truth. Business Secretary Vince Cable went further and spoke about Armageddon while Brussels offcials warned that the chaos threatened to plunge us all into a new reces- sion. Ministers are understood to be deeply concerned that French President Nicolas Sarkozy and Germanys Chancellor Angela Merkel are secretly plotting to build a new, slimmed down eurozone without Greece, Italy and other debt-ridden southern Euro- pean nations. Well-placed Brussels sources say Germany and France have already held private discussions on preparing for the disintegration of the eurozone. At the same time, City insiders yesterday speculated that the death warrant for the euro had already been written, with a new economic bloc dominated by Germany and France almost certain to emerge in its place. Economist Nouriel Roubini said on Twit- ter: It will be soon an end-game for the eurozone: restructurings and exits till break- up. Slow motion train wreck. The secret plans being drawn up are for the creation of a smaller eurozone consisting of fewer members who would push towards econom- ic and fscal union. Britain would be excluded from the new economic grouping, to the delight of many Eurocrats. French and German offcials have already set up a secretive cabal known as the Frank- furt Group to pursue their federalist agenda and bully Britain. The Brussels source insisted the plan was not about creating a two-tier Europe but a radical re-drawing of the entire euro project. Mr. Cameron, in his starkest assessment of the crisis yet, con- frmed that the government was engrossed in contingency planning for the unraveling of the single currency. Confrming that the governments contin- gency planning for a euro break-up was well under way, he said: We have a plan. Theres a lot of scenario planning, thinking about all possible outcomes. We have to deal with the world as it is. Conceding that preparations for an eco- nomic doomsday scenario were under way, he said: Certainly it affects our trade and poten- tially, in this Armageddon narrative, it affects the banking system, but were not there yet. Death of the Euro MACER HALL, DAILY EXPRESS | November 11 Tajikistan and Uzbekistan in a security bloc that Moscow and Beijing hope will develop into an entity unifed enough to rival NATO. At the summit Putin lashed out at arrogant world powers, accusing Western nations of hypocrisy for their support of revolutions in North African na- tions. Putin and Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao called for major infrastruc- ture investments to stimulate economic growth throughout the region. Members also discussed expanding the SCO to include Pakistan and Iran, and Russia offcially supported Pakistans bid to become a full member of the alliance. Wen said a top SCO priority should be developing Central Asias transport and energy infrastructure, adding that nations should conduct bilateral transactions in their own currencies rather than the dol- lar. The time ahead will prove signifcant for the Asian bloc as it expands to include new member nations and becomes more unifed. China and Russia are the regional behemoths driving the unifcation of the East; the SCO may well be a vehicle they use to attain that goal. nChina to make Nigeria major manufacturing zone: In an agreement forged Tuesday, Beijing pledged to transform Nigeria into a major manufacturing zone for some of Chinas key industrial enterprises. Nigerias trade and investment minister stated during a meeting with his Chinese counterpart that making Nigeria a major manufacturing zone for most of Chinas products would help to correct the current trade imbalance between the two countries. Expect both China and Europe to push for inroads into Africa as their need for raw materials increases. ANGLO-AMERICA nOne in four babies at risk from their parents: One quar- ter of newborn babies in the UK are at risk of death or abuse due to parents with a history of domestic violence, mental health problems or substance addictions, according to a report published by the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children on November 10. One hundred and forty-four thousand live with parents with mental health issues. Ninety-three thousand live with a problem drinker, and for 50,000, one of their parents took an illegal drug in the past year. nYoung men suffer most as economy staggers: Few groups are being hit harder by the current recession in America than young men. The unemployment rate for males between 25 and 34 years old with high-school diplomas is 14.4 percentover double the 6.1 percent fgure that existed before the downturn started four years ago. The picture is even bleaker for men in their early 20s, with the unemployment rate being 22.4 percent for high-school graduates 20 to 24 years old. Such devastating statistics are eroding the economic independence of many young men and forcing them to move back in with their parents. Ac- cording to the Census Bureau, the share of men ages 25 to 34 living with their parents jumped to 18.6 percent from 14.2 percent four years agothe highest level since at least 1960. By breaking the laws God outlines in the Bible, the people of America have wrecked their econo- my and emasculated a generation of would-be-leaders. nOccupy Oakland protest turns violent: What began as peaceful demonstrations in Oakland last Wednesday ended with police in riot gear arresting dozens of protesters that had marched through down- town and broken into a vacant building, shattering windows, spraying graffti and setting fres along the way. The same day, another group of about 3,000 protesters converged on the Port of Oakland, the nations ffth-busiest harbor, and forced port offcials to cease maritime opera- tions, citing concerns for workers safety. Smaller-scale demonstrations popped up in New York, Philadelphia, Los Angeles and elsewhere in a show of support for the Oakland movement, which became a rallying point when an Iraq War veteran was seriously injured in a clash with police. The incident provides a glimpse of the kind of chaos that could THE TRUMPET WEEKLY November 12, 2011 7 EuropeWheres It All Leading? WHATEVER HAPPENS in Europe from now on, one thing is for certain. The whole fabric of the world fnancial and economic system, including its system of international trade, is about to change substantially. The real win- ners will be Europe and the East Asian economies plus Russia. The biggest losers will be the Anglo-Saxon na- tionsthe U.S., Britain and its dominions. That much we know without doubt from inerrant Bible prophecy. Its the details of how it is coming about that keep us riveted to news and intelligence emanating from the major players. Greece and Italy were the main feature stories of the week. Theres little doubt that conditions are ripe for a right-wing nationalist swing in Italy. The situation in Greece is but the end outcome of Germanys drive to colonize the whole Balkan Peninsula. In absolute accordance with Bible prophecy for our time, the prophesied rising king of the north has, within barely 20 years following the fall of the Berlin Wall, economically colonized the entire region from Slovenia in the north to the Mediterranean Island of Crete. Take a quick look at a map of Europe. The Balkan Peninsula lies south and east of Berlin. Thats the exact direction in which the end-time king of the north was proph- esied to move in its conquering of territory that eventually would end with it marching into Jerusalem! That prophecy was penned by the Prophet Daniel under divine inspi- ration well over 2,500 years ago! And its happening right before your eyes today! Read it in your own Bible: And out of one of them came forth a little horn, which waxed exceeding great, toward the south, and toward the east, and toward the pleas- ant land (Daniel 8:9). Only Cyprus now remains to complete the economic colonization of the Mediter- ranean by the king of the north. It seems highly doubtful that Turkey will ever give up northern Cyprus as their western most toe hold on Europes periphery. But with southern Cyprus, an EU member, now holding out the begging bowl for fnan- cial bailout, its economic enslavement by Europes paymaster, Germany, is but a matter of time. After Cyprus, next stop Jerusalem!
RON FRASER | Columnist quickly unfold as mass dissatisfaction and anger increase. nBiggest municipal bankruptcy yet: Alabamas Jefferson County fled for bankruptcy court protection on Wednesday in the biggest municipal bankruptcy in U.S. history. Offcials for the county, which is home to economic powerhouse Birmingham, said the county was swamped with $3.14 billion in debt it simply cannot service. The bank- ruptcy will add to concerns by investors that the $3.7 trillion municipal debt market is more risky than appreciated. Last month, Harrisburg, the capital of Pennsylvania, fled for bankruptcy protection. As more cities and counties collapse under the weight of debt, pension obliga- tions and a stagnant economy, pressure on the municipal debt market will risepossibly forcing other municipalities into the red and creating conditions for a systematic domino-type collapse. KATE HICKS, TOWNHALL | November 11 Judge OKs American Flag Ban on Cinco de Mayo W ELCOME TO America, where wearing patriotic clothing can get you sent home from school. Seriously. Remember the case of the California boys who wore American fag apparel on Cinco de Mayo? They were sent home from school for disrespecting Hispanic children on their day. Sounds like a violation of their First Amendment rights, doesnt it? Apparently not, according to a federal judge. [Fox News reported that] U.S. District Court Judge James Ware was ruling in a case involving stu- dents at Live Oak High School in Morgan Hill, Calif., who were banned from wearing American fag t-shirts on the Mexican holiday in 2010. The judge determined that the Morgan Hill Unifed School District did not violate the First Amendment and said that concerns by school offcials over possible violence justifed censoring the pro-American message. The school offcials reasonable forecast that Plaintiffs clothing could cause a substantial disruption with school activities, and there- fore did not violate the standard set forthby requiring that Plaintiffs change, the judge wrote. Its a sad day in this country when politically correct censorship trumps patriotism. RACHEL ALEXANDER, TOWNHALL | November 10 Fifty Percent Welfare Nation I T HAS become all too easy today to receive government assistance. Half of all babies born in the U.S. today receive food assistance, and half of all children live in a home that will use food assistance at some point during their childhood. Forty percent of the population in Washington, D.C. is on welfare. Between 2000 and 2010 the number of Americans receiving food assistance more than doubled, expanding to over 47 million, which is more than one-seventh of the population. Forty years ago, only 4.3 million Americans received food assistance. According to a Heritage Foundation study, means-tested welfare has grown faster than every other part of government during the past two decades, including Social Security, Medicare, education and defense. What is wrong with this picture? Half of everyone in the U.S. is THE TRUMPET WEEKLY November 12, 2011 8 EUROPES ESCALATING debt crisis has cast a black shadow over the worlds fragile recov- ery, threatening to tip large parts of the global economy into a deep downturn and even out- right recession. The OECDs index of leading indicators for China, India, Brazil, Canada, Britain and the eurozone have all tipped below the warning line of 100, with the pace of the decline in Eu- rope exceeding the onset of the Great Contrac- tion in early 2008. Prof. Simon Johnson, a former chief econo- mist at the IMF, rattled nerves earlier this week by warning the world is looking straight into the face of a great depression. The grim data is coming thick and fast. Japans machinery orders fell 8.2 percent in September . Export orders have been declin- ing for eight months. Outright contraction is possible in the quarters ahead, said Mark Cliffe from ING. Exports in the Philippines dropped 27 percent in September, the sharpest fall in two years. Koreas exports have showed sharply, caused by a 20 percent slide in ship- ments to Europe. Christine Lagarde, the IMFs chief, warned in Asia that there are dark clouds gathering in the global economy. Countries need to prepare for any storm that might reach their shores. She said adverse feedback loops are at work as fnancial stress and economic woes feed on each other. Chinas carefully managed soft landing has turned uncomfortably hard, with ripple effects through the commodity markets. Spot iron-ore prices have dropped 30 percent since July . Copper prices have fallen 20 percent since Au- gust. Barclays Capital said the risk of contagion to China has become serious. Humayun Shahryar from the hedge fund Auvest said the eurozone faces a major eco- nomic collapse, perhaps with double-digit falls in GDP. European banks are massively over-lev- eraged and almost every one is worthless if you mark to market. This is going to be worse than 2008 because they have run out of bullets. The sovereign states are not strong enough to stand behind the banks, he said. Fiscal and monetary stimulus has disguised the underlying sickness in the debt-laden econ- omies of the West over the past two years. This heavy make-up has at last faded away, exposing the awful visage beneath. It is a delicate moment. The risk of a synchro- nized slump in Europe, the U.S. and East Asia is bad enough. What is chilling is to face such a possibility with the monetary pedal already pushed to the foor in the U.S., UK and Japan. New Recession Threatens the Globe AMBROSE EVANS-PRITCHARD, TELEGRAPH | November 10 not poor. We are the wealthiest nation in the world. Almost half of all households do not even pay any federal income tax. The problem is that welfare is not just provided to the handicapped and unemployed; it is distributed to the lower middle working class and their children. In Arizona, a single parent with four children making up to around $3000 in income per month is eligible to receive $800 a month in food assis- tance and $400 or more in cash assistance per month. Half of food stamp aid goes to individuals who have received aid for 8.5 years or more. The 2009 stimulus act removed the requirement that able-bodied recipients without children work at least half-time in order to receive food assistance, and increased the maximum food assistance level by 13 percent. Some states are waiving limits on the amount of savings someone on food assistance may have. Food assistance no lon- ger comes in the form of embarrassing food stamps, but through a debit card that looks just like any other debit or credit card. Welfare assistance comes in many forms, including cash, food stamps, public housing, energy assistance, Medicaid, free school lunches and WIC, which is a food assistance program for women and their children. $700 billion is spent annually on welfare. This does not even include the cost of education or the use of emergency rooms by the uninsured. It is true that many Americans have lost their jobs due to the reces- sion. But the increase in welfare has gone up much faster than the unemployment rate. Americans must rid themselves of the entitlement mentality when it comes to jobs. No one is entitled to their frst choice of employment. There are jobs available; Americans must quit thinking they are too good for them. It is better overall to be gainfully employed as a security guard or working at McDonalds, than living off the government dole. Americans must also drop the entitlement mentality when it comes to food and materialism, and instead learn to live within their means. Cell phones, big-screen TVs, eating out frequently, and new cars are luxuries, not necessities. Welfare is devastating for children. Long-term welfare dependency re- duces a childs intellect by one-third when compared with other similar children. In order to reduce the growing, unaffordable dependency that has crept up over the past few years, encouraged by our government, it must be impressed upon Americans how we are ruining our children. COUNTERPUNCH | November 8 Sliding Toward Foreclosure O F THE 55-million families with mortgages, 10.4-million of them are sliding toward failure and foreclosurea tragedy that will de- press the U.S. housing market for years to come . Thats the blunt conclusion of distinguished economics journalist William Greider . Americas Economic recovery will have to wait until that surplus (excess houses) is gone, because the housing sector has always led the way out of recession, Greider says. The more housing supply exceeds demand, the more prices fall. The more prices fall, the more families get sucked into the deep muddy. The vicious cycle is known as the death spiral. So far, theres no end in sight. Greider says the solution is to forgive the debtors: Write down the principal they owe on their mortgage so they will no longer be under- water. Refnance the loan with a reduced interest rate, so the monthly payment is at a level that the struggling homeowner can handle. Forgiving the debtors is the right thing to do, Greider continues, be- cause the bankers have already been forgiven when the government bailed them out. THE TRUMPET WEEKLY November 12, 2011 9 THE JUSTICE Departments mission is to enforce the law and defend the interests of all Americans. Eric Holders Justice Depart- ment is making a mockery out of its supposed mission. Last year the Justice Department asked the Ninth Circuit Court to allow other countries to dispute the constitutionality of Arizonas new immigration lawwithin American courts. Thats right: He asked the court to allow other countries to attack one of Americas 50 states. And, astoundingly, the Ninth Circuit agreed. It accepted briefs attacking Arizonas law from 11 countries including such stalwart friends as Argentina, Mexico, Ecuador, Nicara- gua and Bolivia. Then, in order to prove how America is trying to improve its human rights record, the State Department submitted the Arizona immigration law to a United Nations human rights report. This is almost too inane for words. What an insult. Submitting Americas human rights re- cord to review by countries like Saudi Arabia, Angola and Egyptnations that allow hus- bands to beat their wives and that kill people for criticizing Mohammad. And why is America looking to nations like Ecuador and Bolivia for advice on the consti- tutionality of American law? Why would the Justice Department help foreigners push their laws on Americans? It is obvious that these American lead- ersand even Americas courtsdont value Americas Constitution. President Obama himself famously stated that the Constitution refects some deep faws in American culture and that it refected the fundamental faw of this country that contin- ues to this day. If you really understand what the Justice Department and the Federal administration are doing, you know it goes beyond simply not valuing the constitution. They actually want to destroy it. The Bible talks about a time when justice would leave the land. In Isaiah 59, God warns that because people have forgotten Him and His commands, judgment is turned away back- ward, and justice standeth afar off: for truth is fallen in the street, and equity cannot enter. Our mission is to enforce the law and defend the interests of all Americans. The Justice Department needs a new mission statement because it is trampling all over this one. Perhaps one about defending the interests of foreign na- tions over the people of the United States. Subordinating America
ROBERT MORLEY | Columnist European commissioner, Monti authored a report on the establishment of a European single market that included measures by which Brussels could extend its reach into the fnancial matters of EU member states. Watch Italy closely, and be assured: Whoever Italys next prime min- ister is, he will undoubtedly be a pawn in the hands of German elites! Its hard to overstate the signifcance of these events. We are witness- ing THE ECONOMIC COLONIZATION OF EUROPE BY STEALTH BY THE GERMANS, wrote Simon Heffer this week (emphasis added throughout). In the past, it would have taken an invading military force to topple the leadership of a European nation. Today, it can be done through sheer economic pressure, he wrote. Thats an alarming statement when you really think on it. Yesterday, Reuters, citing EU offcials, reported that German and French offcials have already discussed plans for a radical overhaul of the European Union that would involve establishing a more integrated and potentially smaller eurozone. Apparently this cabal of elites in Paris, Berlin and Brussels have discussed the possibility of some EU na- tions leaving the euro while the others forge ahead into deeper econom- ic and political integration. Germany is reshaping Europe into a distinctly Teutonic edifce. It is time for a breakthrough to a new Europe, stated German Chancel- lor Angela Merkel yesterday. Just to make sure there was no ambiguity about what this new Europe would look like, Merkel stated that this will MEAN MORE EUROPE, NOT LESS EUROPE. In an editorial this week, the Daily Mail warned that increasingly, it appears we are witnessing the death of democracy and the right of sov- ereign nations inside the eurozone to govern their own affairs. Finally, after years and decades, the ruthless ambitions of the elites guiding the EU are being exposed. Were seeing that the EU has no interest in protecting the sovereign European states, in defending the rights of the European people. Rather, as the Trumpet has repeatedly warned, the EU is an undemocratic, German-led powerhouse engaged in a strategy to conquer, then subjugate, the sovereign states of Europe. In fact, its all that and much, MUCH MORE! In an article last Friday, Archbishop Cranmer, the man behind one of the top political blogs in Britain, got close to the truth of the matter. The German-led European Union is ESSENTIALLY THE RE-CREATION OF THE OLD EMPIRE OF CHARLEMAGNE, he wrote. The EU today, he explained, has picked up the mantle of Charlemagne, just like Otto the Great did in the 10th century, then the Habsburg kings in the Middle Ages and then Napoleon in the early 19th century. If you know your European history, you know thats a chilling com- parison! The spirit of Charlemagne still broods, he wrote. There is more to come, he warned, as the same fate will befall Portugal, Italy and Spain, FOR THE POWERFULLY FEDERALIST CHARACTER OF THIS PROJECT HAS YET TO BE APPRECIATED. What about you? Can you appreciate what we are witnessing? While the world is fxated on the currency exchanges, on the bond yields and bailout packages, on the effect of Europes fnancial crisis on global stock markets and hedge funds, what are you seeing in Europe? Do you see a continent being systematically conquered by an invigorated, empowered German nation? The spirit of Charlemagne is brooding in Europe. Whether you see it later or now is a matter of life and deathits that serious! Greider quotes Stephen Roach, a Morgan Stanley economist who says, Some form of debt forgiveness would be a clear positive. With debt reduction, people would feel less reluctant to spend money on new things. If you can do that, then companies will feel more confdent about future demand, less reluctant about hiring more workers. THE TRUMPET WEEKLY November 12, 2011 10 CONQUERING from page 1 ABOUT A week ago, the planets 7 billionth per- son was born, by the UNs estimate. This is extraordi- nary. For decades, futurists have been predicting that the population explosion would seriously threaten civilization. Somehow, though, advancements in producing and man- aging resources have, to this point, overcome the diffculties. And people just keep multiply- ingmore than 200,000 every day. Still, evidence shows the trend cant hold. Serious questions loom over us about the consequences of having so many people. In the worlds most populous nation, a burgeoning middle class is suddenly demanding luxuries that have long been restricted to the Western world. Meanwhile, most all the worlds popula- tion growth is happening in the less developed areas. Of the 80 million babies born in develop- ing countries each year, 20 million are in the worlds poorest nations. Nearly a billion people today lack access to safe water. More than a bil- lion are undernourished. Some radicals believe the world just needs fewer people, and promote various forms of pop- ulation control. In China, over a third of mar- ried couples are restricted to having one child, a policy that has contributed to forced abortions and sterilizations, as well as female infanticides. Many analysts say, though, that there are plenty of resources to go around. Their sup- posed scarcity has many causes: bad leadership, economic trouble, poverty and so on. In truth, the problem isnt a lack of good resources, its a lack of good resource management. It isnt too many humansits too much human nature. With many population- and resource-related issues, mankind will hit an immovable wall soon, and it is not diffcult to imagine cata- strophic consequences: famines, economies shutting down, societal upheaval, war. These are exactly the conditions biblical prophecy reveals will besiege our world in its fnal days. However, prophecy also reveals what lies beyond: conditions of peace, prosperity, abundanceextremely conducive to explosive population growth. Indications are that during the Millennium, under Gods direction, with principles of good stewardship in place, the population will grow well beyond 7 billion. God even promises to reshape the topography to make room for more people. When one under- stands our Creators awesome purpose for hu- man beings, one can appreciate the true beauty of this glorious population explosion! Can Earth Really Support 7 Billion People?
