To provide clean drinking water to the needful communities of india at an
affordable prive is the driving force of our idea. We as two individuals have surfed the internet and discovered a technique which shall provide clean and sustainable water at a cost of Rs.150 which is far too less as compared to any other technique . We have named our product Pure-Pots. At the initial stage we have targeted chandraval slum a community in need of clean water. We shall provide them with clean drinking water and simultaneously teach them how to manufacture it to widen our reach to different communities . This shall also help them earn a sufficient income as well. The working of our product is as follows: PurePots ceramic water filtration system contains four parts: . Lid . Colloidal silver impregnated ceramic pot (upper piece)(colloidal silver has several medicinal properties as well.) . Water storage vessel (lower piece) . Built-in spigot To treat water, the lid is removed and water is poured into the pot. Gravity forces water to pass through pores in the ceramic pot. The pores are effective in preventing turbidity and larger bacterium, from passing through the ceramic pot. Protozoa and bacteriasuch as amoeba which are small enough to pass through the ceramic pot pores are deactivated by the silver particles in the ceramic pot. Once water is filtered into the storage vessel, it is ready to drink. Clean drinking water can be drawn easily from the built-in spigot which helps to prevent recontamination of the treatment water.
Analytical background :
THE RATIONALE OF OUR PROJECT Seeing these facts both of us wanted to change this situation and hence came up with this idea. Moreover when we went for the field visit to our target community chandraval slum the situation there further motivated us. Below is a description of the problems: 1.Chandraval slum is spread over an area of approximately 40 acres and consists of about 2500 dwellers who do not have access to clean drinking water 2. They get water supply through municipal taps 3-4 times in a week. However the water is not fit for drinking purposes. 3. Their children are undernourished and suffer from diarrhea and other water borne diseases 4. These people are mainly indulged in rag picking and manual work from which they are not able to earn enough money to sustain their lives.
Our video shall further explain the background.
Support/acknowledgement: Our idea has been accepted by Enactus Hans Raj college which is a part of the NGO Enactus India and soon we shall implement this as well. Our idea has also been appreciated at various competitions held at different colleges.
Challenges: SINCE Our target community is willing to use and manufacture our product we donot face any community based challenges which is a major problem for any social entrepreneur. However some risk associated with our product is as follows: Breakage is a major risk for PurePots. For consumers, breakage could be seen as a barrier to purchasing a PurePots ceramic water filtration system. Since most breakage is associated with the spigot, PurePots will ensure proper usage instruction to end users and the accessibility of replacement parts. Breakage during the manufacturing process can be mitigated through employee training and proper packaging. The fluctuating cost of silver also poses a risk to our business. But, since the current price of colloidal silver is only Rs. 15 out of the total cost of production (Rs 130) for just the ceramic filter, PurePots could absorb a relatively large increase in the cost of silver without significantly affecting our profitability.
Usp of product: 1. needful taget community 2. clean water is a basic necessity 3. competitive prices- there exists not even a single competitor which provides a reliable technique at ous cost. The lowest priced product similar to ours comes at rs. 1000- much higher than what we are charging. 4. Any tie low cost replacement of parts.
Usp over competitors:
social impact: First of all, the primary problem we aim to solve is to provide access to clean drinking water to the needful people. Our project also aims to ensure a sizeable increment in their income by training them how to manufacture PurePots. Educate the slum dwellers about the importance of clean drinking water in our life. A reduction in the waterborne illnesses which will increase school attendance, decrease family healthcare expenses, and prevent lost working days. Maximizing water quality will bring health and economic benefits to the residents of Chandraval. In short, PurePots will dramatically improve customers lives.
Part e Future plans:
1. As of now we have decided to manufacture 100 pure pots for the chandraval slum dwellers. Since we are sure about the effectiveness of our product, the demand of our product shall soon increase. Thus, we aim to cover the entire slum of chandraval consisging of about 2500 dwellers. 2. Then we shall target slums of similar situation in nearby areas as chandu village in Gurgaon and expand our production. 3. Once our product will increase the health and economic standards of slum dwellers we want to register ourselves as a NGO to widen our approach.
Funds required:
Cost per filter to us: Clay = Rs 8 Colloidal silver = Rs 15 Plastic bucket =Rs 50 Lid = Rs 10 Spigot = Rs 25 Cardboard boxes =Rs 2 Labour= Rs 20 Total cost of resources per filter = Rs 130
Selling price= Rs 150 Profit= Rs 20 Utilization of profit will be done as under: 1. Inflation check- since silver is subject to price fluctuation. 2. Transportation cost 3. Motivation for us to move to different communities.
For the startup of our business we have decided to manufacture 100 pure pots. Thus our initial requirement is only Rs. 13000 which is the major advantage of our business. Cost required to store resources and manufactured Pure-Pots/month = rs 2000 Thus startup cost required= Rs. 15000.
