Written task : Interview of Candido Guzman

Reporter : Hello everyone, today we meet Candido : Hello Candido, how are you today ?
Candido : -Hello mister, I am fine thank you.
Reporter : -You are with me today, e!ause you wanted to share your e"perien!e aout the
#e"i!an-$meri!an order with the auditors, ut first I will let you introdu!e
yourself.
Candido : -I am Candido %u&man, and I am an hyphenated ameri!an who !ame from
#e"i!o. 'he $meri!an (ream rou)ht me here, sin!e I heard aout it sin!e my
!hildhood.
Reporter : -*kay, so one day you took the de!ision to !ross the order to fulfill this
$meri!an (ream. +hat do you think of your !hoi!e today ? +as it relevant ?
Candido : -*f !ourse movin) to the ,-$ )ave me more prospe!ts, as mu!h on the
professional side as for the livin) standards. 'he life really e!ame easier when I
e)an to work here.
Reporter : -I see, so is there really a )ap etween the #e"i!an way of life . and the
$meri!an way of life .?
Candido : -Yes, often the $meri!an see the #e"i!an immi)ration as a u!h of people who
/ust !ross a )rid to take all the /os possile that don0t re1uire a spe!ial skill. 2ut
this is far more !omple" than that. 3eople need to know that the most !asual /os
in #e"i!o are worth leavin) for the lowest paid /os here, doin) this permit us to
ama&in)ly in!rease our in!ome. +hen #e"i!ans look at the other side of the Rio
%rande, everythin) seems )reener, there is full employment, hi)h livin)
standards, etter medi!al !are, a smoother !imate... whereas a lot them know
poverty, unemployment and their livin) standarts are mu!h lower.
Reporter : -In that !ase, I )uess everyone would !onsider !rossin) the order, ut if the
,nited -tates are su!h an opportunity for the #e"i!ans, why aren0t a lot more of
theim immi)ratin) like you?
Candido : -$s everyone knows, !rossin) the order is ille)al, a lot of patrols are )uardin)
the area to inter!ept anyone who try to )et throu)h it. 4ven if you mana)e to
sneak ehind theim, you are far from ein) out of dan)er. -wimmin) a!ross the
Rio %rande !an look like a snap, ut then, there are miles of desolated desert
with a dreadful heat and no water at all efore the very first tra!e of !ivilisation.
+hen my )roup entered the desert, we were 56, when we )ot out if it, we were
7 . I saw 89 people die, in!ludin) my sister #anuella, in less than 5 days. I have
een very lu!ky to survive.
Reporter : -I feel sorry for you sister, this is a very tra)i! story. *h, it look like the time is
over, I have to end this interview. +ell, Candido, I hope you a prospe!tuous life
here in $meri!a, you deserve it.
Candido : -'hanks. .
