The Obertraun Holiday Resort consists of traditional chalets. There are 59 in total, built
in 5 different styles, and sleep 4 to 10 persons. The chalets are in keeping with tradi-
tional Salzkammergut style, with a warm and cosy ambiance. Most of the bedrooms
have an en-suite bathroom. Every chalet has a private tanning booth or a sauna. The ac-
commodation is built around a main, central building known as die Residenz which

This property is about 600 years old and was formerly a considerable enterprise.
Anzenau Mill Bread is still being baked today in the so-named black oven- an

Chorinsky Defile (Chorinsky Klause)
Culture-historical monument which dates back to the year 1819. Trees were uprooted
due to severe ooding and washed down towards the River Traun. The Chorinsky
Dele in the Weienbach Valley is accessible by foot or by mountain bike. Distance is
approx. 6 km.

The only enterprise of its kind not only in Austria, but in the whole of Europe. 16 local
craftsmen and artists show-case their work in the Neuwildenstein Stately home in the
centre of Bad Goisern. Show rooms and shopping facilities all under one roof. There
is also a spectacle makers workshop and a seamstress who specialises in making
Dirndl skirts.

Heimat- und Landlermuseum
Bad Goiserns museum was opened in 1984 in the former changing room at the Goisern
Mill by a group of local historians. Through looking at the various exhibitions, visitors
can discover interesting facts about the history of the Goisern Valley (handicrafts, folk
culture, buildings and lots more). There are more than 350 original objects on display,
providing us with an insight into more than 267 years in the history of local people and
their ways of life.

Johann-Wolf-Aboretum
More than 1000 rare species of plants from around the world are featured in an area
covering 2500 square metres. Follow the path through the various different sections
of the arboretum, and there are information boards with details of the different plants
which include cumin, water lilies, pomegranates, g trees, papyrus and hyssop. Many
of the plants are edible.

Woodcutters Museum
The Drrenholzstube wooden building was transported from Weienbach and
carefully reconstructed by a local History Group. All the old tools and appliances once
used by the woodcutters were placed in-situ. Each woodcutter would cook his own
bread and dripping in front of the open re. Old pictures and display items provide us
with an insight into the hard and often dangerous work carried out by the woodcutters.

Charnel House T
The Charnel House dates back to the 12th century. The grave yard has always been
too small, and so, 10 years after burial, the skeletons were unearthed and the skulls
decorated with symbols and the date of death. There are 1200 skulls in Hallstatts
Charnel House, 610 of which have been decorated.

Salzkammergut Cycle Trail
The Salzkammergutradweg is a complete tour of the Dachstein-Salzkammergut
Holiday Region. Starting in Bad Ischl, the former summer residence of Kaiser Franz
Joseph, we travel in a southerly direction to Bad Goisern and continue along the
eastern shore of Lake Hallstatt to Obertraun. From here we cycle to Hallstatt an
idyllic World Cultural Heritage Site. Just before Obertraun there is an option to
take a boat across the lake to Hallstatt. From here we follow the recently esta-
blished cycle track which leads to Bad Aussee.

as Gasthaus Seeraunzn. Start: Bad Goisern, Au or Untersee. Allow approx. 1-1.5 hours
Echerntal Valley Theme Trail: Artists, Literary Figures and Nature Lovers,
Hallstatt. Interesting facts on artists, literary gures and nature lovers to be discovered
along the way. Start: Hallstatt Lahn or Car Park 2. Time needed: approx. 2 hours.
The route might not be passable in deep snow.
Edtalm, Gosau. Ascent via Hornspitz cable cars and easy walk to the Edtalm with
catered mountain hut. Start: Hornspitz lift. Allow approx. 1.5 hours
Gosaubachweg (Along the Gosau Stream), Gosau. Flat, easy footpath along
the Gosau stream. Ideal for prams and wheelchairs. Start: near the bakery in Hintertal,
Sports Centre or near the Kohlstattstberl. Allow approx. 3 hours
Hallstatt Theme Trail: This trail takes you through historic Hallstatt
a World Cultural Heritage Site. Recommendation: Audio guides in German and English
are available from Tourist Information. Start: Lahn Bus Terminal.

Hornspitz Cable Car Middle Station, Gosau. Walk from Pass Gschtt mountain
pass to the Hornspitz chair lift middle station (or reverse). Re-trace your steps or take
the chair lift down to the valley. Start: Pass Gschtt mountain pass or Hornspitz chair
lift. Allow approx. 1.5 hours.
Obertraun Upper Level Trail, A trail high above the houses. Start: Evangelical
church yard. Allow approx. 45 minutes.
Rossmoosalm/Predigstuhl, Bad Goisern. A pleasant walk with stunning views
towards the Dachstein. Start: Predigstuhl car park. Allow about half an hour.
Traunreiter Trail, Bad Goisern. An easy, at trail along the bank of the River Traun
from Bad Goisern to Weienbach. Retrace your steps back to the start. The walk can also be
completed in reverse. Start: Goisern or Weienbach Bridges. Takes about 45 minutes.
Traunweg Round, Obertraun. From the Dachsteinhof in Obertraun towards
Ebnersteg (Route Nr. 2), cross the River Traun, and follow trail Nr. 6 back to the
Dachsteinhof. Start: Dachsteinhof. Allow approx. 1 hour.

This event, held in the historic surroundings of the Kirchengasse , attracts many
groups of violinists as well as individuals. Their common interests are strings and bows,

The traditional sheep inspection will take place in September on the Htteneckalm
mountain pasture in Bad Goisern.

Handicrafts Advent in the HAND.WERK.HAUS

Craftsmen and women from the Salzkammergut will be hosting a festive Christmas
Market in the HAND.WERK.HAUS in Bad Goisern. Over 20 of our most talented artists
and craftsmen proudly present their products both inside and in the courtyard at the
Neuwildenstein stately home.
