I. RATIONALE/PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The Metalworks sector plays an active role in improving the competitiveness of other industries in the coconut specifically to agri-based and wood-based industries like Coffee, Cacao, Coconut, Bamboo, Rubber, Furniture and Fixtures, processed fruits and nuts, and processed foods, among other. Driven with the ingenuity of local metal workers, fabricators and inventors, the introduction of tools, equipment and accessories locally manufactured will boost the development of aforementioned industries by addressing production bottlenecks, improving processes, increasing productivity, enhancing product quality and ultimately optimizing profits for industry stakeholders.
On this light, the Department of Trade and Industry Region 02, as one of the partner regions in promoting the development of Metal Industry in the country, is proposing to conduct a Focus Group Discussion Meeting with selected stakeholders of the metal works sector in each province.
The activity will be a one-day gathering of selected metal industry stakeholders which will be facilitated by the Industry Development Division and the provincial office concerned. Expected participants are the owners or representatives of businesses falling under the metal industry such as jewelry shops, metalcraft/metal works and machine shops/machine works.
II. OBJECTIVE
The one day activity aims to achieve the following:
1. Formulate the Value Chain Map of Region 02s Local Metal and Metalworks Industry; 2. Formulate strategic objectives and identify opportunities and challenges affecting the industry; 3. Identify strategic action plan; 4. Conduct profiling of participants in particular the private sector representatives
