Historical Analysis

I. Significant Event

A. Discovery of Steam Engine as a new source of energy

B. Causes
1. The steam engine was discovered to help prevent flooding in coal mines. This was used to
pump water from the mines and was called Miners Friends. This helped miners get more coal
from the mines and increasing the production of coal.
2. Steam engine was created to make improvements in land and water transportation. These
improvements were made to help the merchants ship their goods easier and faster, thus
avoiding low quality of products. These improvements are also made so people can be able to
travel in a safer manner and so they can reach their destinations in a shorter amount of time.

C. Effects
1. The steam engine expands the coal mining by allowing mines to go deeper. The mines didnt
get flooded anymore so miners were able to expand their mines and look for more coal.
2. Steam engines are widely used such in the steamboat, steam yacht, traction engine, steam
tractor, steam bus, steam tricycle, steam car, steam roller, steam stank, steam rocket, etc.
These devices that use the steam engines are now great help in the modern world especially in
transportation and industries.

II. Similar Event in the Philippines

A. The establishment of windmills in Bangui, Ilocos

B. Causes
1. The windmills were established to develop an alternative energy or electrical source.
2. Bangui windmills are made to provide further investments in the country. Since the year
1990s, NAPOCOR had a poor distribution of quality power in the Philippines, thus
discouraging investments in the country. This invention attracts foreign countries to invest
for more renewable energy for the country.

C. Effects
1. Bangui windmills provide electricity in the province. The wind turbines capture wind energy
and is transformed to usable energy with the use of electrical generators.
2. Being a tourist spot, locals living in the area took advantage of this situation and started
selling souvenir items like miniature windmills to local tourists, thus making profit.
III. Analysis

A. Similarities and Differences
1. Both improved the living conditions of people. The steam engine helped the coal miners
and now is being widely used for transportations and industries while the Bangui windmills
lessen the energy consumption of people living in Bangui.
2. The steam engine was developed to be used in modern-day machines while the Bangui
windmills were established to create an alternative energy source.

B. Values learned
1. We learned that the value of hard work can lead to inventions that can help in modern
industries, just like the steam engine. Many scientists had to work hard to develop the
steam engine that now helps us in transportation and industries. The value of hard work
also made us realize that our dreams cannot be attained if one does not work hard for it.
2. We also learned that the value of creativity can help in developing machines like the
Bangui windmills that can improve living conditions of people. We learned that creativity
inspires people to think out of the box and to make things that can be very helpful to our
society.

C. Importance
1. The value of hard work is important in our lives as Level 9 students because this is what
we need in order to have good grades and to pass this grade level. We need to practice
this value so we can be successful. This value can greatly help us achieve our dreams
and have a better life.
2. The value of creativity is important in our lives as Level 9 students because this value is
what we need to create innovative and useful things. This creativity also encourages us
to go beyond our limits and produce something that exceeds our teachers standards.
This value will also be of great help to us in achieving our dreams and having a better
life.
